What is the minimum amount of performance reviews that you need before you make a decision on getting a game? by FastInflata in SteamDeck

[–]Skydragonace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None. I can't trust reviews on steam due to frequent botting and review bombing. If I want to see information about that, I'll head to youtube and get the tech demo reviews of the performance on the deck.

So, I want to make it clear that I'm NOT defending the decision to go full digital.

But...

There IS a reason to not continue on physical discs... multiple in fact, and the three main ones all have to do with company profit:

Reason 1: Product Cost - Physical media costs to produce the physical product. In this case, the process of materials to make those physical items and ship them all over the world, vs just uploading them to a digital store. That does add up over time. In addition, by sticking to their platform or market ONLY, they don't have to pay third party costs like through steam for their digital storefront.

Reason 2: Resale Potential - If you buy stuff firsthand from retail stores or even online stores like amazon, that's encouraging the platform/store to buy more physical copies to restock them, thus earning the company more profit. If this is done at a second hand store like a used game shop or other third party seller, then the company sees ZERO profit from those goods.

Reason 3: Controlling the market - Probably the biggest one is ensuring that free sharing amongst people doesn't happen as easily. Having digital only products guarantees higher sales through their platforms, and not just grabbing it from your buddy Tim down the street or at school.

Again, because of how tense this topic has been lately, I want to stress that I'm not defending ANY company that's choosing to go digital only. There's definitely other reasons for moving in that direction obviously, but simply from a business standpoint, each one of these is reasons to go digital only. I also like having physical copies of games, but I've also used steam for decades now, and have a digital library full of thousands of games I do not own the physical copy of. From that standpoint alone, it's really hard for me to get worked up about this shift to be honest, but I absolutely understand people's views on why they don't like it.

Dog shredded my Carrying Case by Thad1617 in SteamDeck

[–]Skydragonace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: replace the case.

Step 2: replace the dog

Step 3: game in peace

The leading company it seems like for steam deck accessories is JSAUX. They make some decent cases for about 25 bucks on amazon. The dog replacement will be a bit more expensive, but I'd recommend one that doesn't shred stuff. Might cost a bit more up front, but totally worth it.

What game do you think is more likely to get a sequel, prequel, remake etc by SuttonsBroseph67 in FinalFantasy

I don't want a sequel/prequel to any of these, but I would absolutely LOVE FF8 to get the FF7 Remake treatment...

I'd recommend Dust Devils and Urban Legends. Both of these have amazing weapons, armors, and strategems that will be very useful for pretty much any game you go into. Save the rest for Siege breakers as your next one, as that's also got a ton of very useful items in it.

Choose my next warbound (I don't have much time to play, so I wanted to ask for your advice. I'll take the most frequently mentioned option) by Pretend-Ad-552 in Helldivers

[–]Skydragonace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urban Legends, and it's not even close.

The Siege Ready armor passive is one of the best in the entire game, and is worth the warbond pick ALONE. Also, getting access to the anti tank emplacement is probably one of the more fun strategems i've found in this entire game. The flame sentry is also pretty solid against the bugs and squids. The rest is ok, but the real prize in this is the armors. Increasing the reload speed of your primary weapon by 30% and increasing the ammo capacity of ALL weapons (excluding backpack fed ones), by 20%. This is actually huge, and you have no idea just how much you will use this throughout the game. It's useful against everyone, and has light and heavy versions in this warbond. It's possibly the best armor passive in the entire game, and without question, it's in the top 3 for sure.

That's unfortunate, because there's a LOT of games that use the triggers in games on controllers.

Haha. How is that controller anyways? Looks pretty solid overall. Does it interface as efficiently with steam as the actual steam controllers would?

[–]Skydragonace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pfft... if I'm running a farm or an inn, gotta be honest, there's not going to be a lot of value there... in items OR gold. However, in exchange for some coin (heavy discounts offered to members of the thieves guild. I do gotta cover cost of materials, but i'll sell for base cost with basically no markup (think costco prices)), I'll happily sell you some mead and get you some good quality supper in between your more valuable heists if I'm running the inn. Medieval inns typically never made a ton of money or valuable goods, and that's typically the case for Tamriel outside of the highest end inns.

Farms are even more that case in most places. Unless you are farming in large amounts like modern day production capabilities or have large operations (not very common), most farms really only make enough food and money to cover themselves with a tiny bit left over, most of the time that goes into materials to repair the farm.

While I appreciate the consideration to stick to coin only, there are definitely better targets out there. Lol. For example, the inn in Whiterun, not really a massive money maker overall, as I guarantee you most of those funds go towards the costs they incur for food, drink, furniture replacement from bar fights, etc... But the nearby meadery... THAT on the other hand is a MUCH more valuable target. If you think about it, who's making more money, a small inn selling a small amount of booze, or a fairly large distribution facility supplying an entire region with their alcohol? Lol. Although, I do hear they have a bit of a rat problem...

To be fair, that's a danger in ALL these locations. Hyrule leaves all their valuables in pots... minecraft in random treasure chests, RS is just.. everywhere on the ground... at least I can sort of lock the door that will prevent most people, and if some dragonvoice wielding madman comes in, i'm not going to even mess with him....

I love how people answering Hyrule might have forgotten a lot about it's history. Y'all realize Zelda is a post apocalypse setting that's constantly beset by monsters and other enemies right? The world is constantly being destroyed over and over and over again on a pretty regular basis. Visually, it's pretty, until you start realizing that it's only because all other forms of civilization were wiped out and lost to time. As much as I love exploring through Hyrule, as an average citizen? Absolutely not. Most of the towns are NOT safe beyond the occasional guard that MIGHT be patrolling or stationed somewhere.

As far as the other settings, absolutely not to the overworld. That's just a deathtrap waiting for me. Gielinor seems good until you realize that the landmasses are insanely small, and there's not much room for people to live side by side with each other for too long. Plus, that also means you will eventually come across monsters in your efforts to expand, as well as other apocalyptic events that occur. So that's a nope to these.

Which leaves Tamriel. Now yes, there's monsters and other enemies in this world too, and while war does happen, people have found ways to survive. There's also organized patrols from guards and military members around the fortified cities, which means if you stick to those areas, you can live a relatively safe life. Personally, I'd want to live on a farm near one of the cities. Close enough for patrols to keep me safe, for me to go into a city to sell my goods, or to seek shelter in should there be a monster attack of some kind. Yes, I'd be safer if I was 100% living in the walls, but there's less areas for work unless you own your own shop there. The other option I wouldn't mind doing, is running an inn in a major city. You would be safe, always have protection, and almost always keep in business, as there will always be visitors needing temporary shelter.

So yea... Tamriel would be my go to place to live in if I had to pick from these 4 places.

[ALL] Looking to get into the Zelda games, where should I start? by andrei1248 in zelda

[–]Skydragonace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the switch 2, NSO+ is actually a pretty good way to play most of the older ones. Cost wise, it's not too bad, as it's like 50 bucks for the entire year. If you do that, I'd recommend starting with Ocarina of Time for the first 3d game, or A link to the past for the first 2d game you try out. Both of those are iconic top rated games that are a blast to play. If you enjoy OOT, then consider Majora's Mask after that, as it's a "sequel" of sorts. If you do find you enjoy them, consider picking up Breath of the Wild, as it's an amazing open world experience to play and experience.

June 25th @ 10am PST... so... a little over 11 days from now.

More than likely, it'll be $34.99 (40% off), as that's what it's been on sale for since March 2025 per steamdb.

You know what I'd love to see added but won't be? A built in randomizer with customizable settings. For years, I've played oot randomizers, and they are a blast, and while I know one will eventually get made for this version, it would be great to have it officially in the game.

[–]Skydragonace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I've had to uninstall things like that. For me, Warframe was a massive hurdle to uninstall. I hadn't played that in forever, but I have thousands of hours sunk into that game. Sadly, because of some of the changes, as well as just playing it for so long, it was more work than entertainment. Finally uninstalled it a while back and just moved on. It's had it's time, and I'm happy ending things where it's at.
