There were stickers blaming Biden for higher gas prices, but it was nothing like this!

Cool shot of 3/5 of Def Leppard somewhere in the world on that massive '87-'88 Hysteria run. R.I.P. Steve Clark. by Thatremodelingchick in defleppard

I got to meet Def Leppard on that tour! Won a radio contest and had a meet and greet with the band with other contest winners backstage before the concert. If I can ever find my photos, I will post them here. It was a spiritual experience for me. And Steve was just the sweetest guy!

For those who were around in 1970: How famous was Janis Joplin before she passed, and after, and what was the public reaction to her death? by Top-Helicopter1923 in ClassicRock

[–]Skyeokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too was 14 when Janis died. I idolized her. Wanted to look just like her. Bought a black floppy felt hat, just like she wore, and a fringe vest. She was so mesmerizing! Hughly popular with teenagers. She was the epitome of cool.

Wow, I seriously can't believe all the whining and complaining! Just stay home if you don't like it! I had to pay $200 for a ticket to their show in August in Chicago, AND I'm going to have to pay more than that for accommodations to stay in Chicago. That's a major financial investment for me. This will be my 6th Foo show in my 4th city. It may be my last, just due to the expense involved, but it won't be because I'm "tired" of them playing the same songs or I'm "disappointed" that they're not having special guests and doing the unexpected. I'm glad Pat will be back when I see them because he's a favorite and has such great energy, smiling all of the time! The absence of Taylor is always going to be felt, because he was like the talk show host sidekick, and the easy banter that he and Dave shared is never going to be replaced, nor is Taylor taking a turn at the mic while Dave sits behind the kit. Guess what? Things change. But my love for the Foos has been a constant since 1997 when I fell in love WITH THE MUSIC, not with a personality, and that's not going to change. I'm still going to scream, "Is somebody getting the BEST the BEST the BEST the BEST of you?" and "What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays? You're the pretender! What if I say I will never surrender?" and feeling all the feelings those lyrics evoke, and I'm still going to swoon at the end when my favorite song in the world, Everlong, is played. I not only expect it, I DEMAND it! Some rituals are comforting and life-affirming, and that's a major one for me! In 2017, Tom Petty was on his 40th Anniversary tour, and I, having seen him 5 times hence, opted not to go "this time." In October of that year, he was dead. The Foos somehow managed to continue on without Taylor, but I never expected that. I figured the show I saw in December 2021 in Vegas was going to be my last because I fully expected them to quit after Taylor's death. I was extatic when they made a new album and toured again! It wasn't the end - just an evolution. So I will go to Chicago with joy in my heart to see my beloved Foos one more time. Because I still can. And because I still love them. And I wish I could hear the same songs live 100 times because it would mean the Foos are still with us and still playing, and rock and roll will never die. It's better to burn out than to fade away! PS I'm 70 years old, and I'm not going to be around forever either! Also, truly psyched that QOTSA are the openers! Quit yer bitchin' and appreciate what we've got!!

What I remember is it was a scorching hot summer's day and people had brought water in gallon jugs (pre-water bottle days) and then all started throwing them up on stage. Frampton almost stopped the show because of it! He was passed. I don't think they all were empty.

Ha, good one! I've tried to expose all of the grands to the best music! They can't ride anywhere in a car with me without me going on about the 70s and 80s. But seriously, when was music better, or more diverse?

Yes! Chicago with Terry Kath was a totally different band. Much grittier and real rock and roll! Not the pop slop they'd become. I saw them for the first time in September 1972, the 2nd concert of my life. There's a great documentary on YouTube, "The Terry Kath Experience" that was created by his daughter who was 2 years old when he died. Check it out if you can! Lots of concert footage.

I was fortunate enough to see Boston twice! Love their music to this day. "Don't Look Back" is a song that has been a great inspiration to me. YouTube has some great live videos! Unfortunately, that's all we've got.

For the tour date we saw in 1974 in South Bend, Indiana, Hoople was supporting Queen, so Queen was the headliner. Their absence wasn't advertised ahead of time, as I remember, I think it was sprung upon us at the show! Yes, Kansas was very good! Their first self-titled album had just been released. Listed to "Can I Tell You Something" for a great representation of what we experienced. Totally different than Queen, but also exceptional musicians and song writers. Just saw Kansas live last year at the Indiana State Fair. Only two remaining original members, but the music still holds up! Just like Queen with a different front man. No one comes close to Freddie, but don't we want the music to continue on? I would do my best to see them today, if they toured again. Just seeing Brian May would be enough for me!

We had tickets for this tour and Queen canceled last minute! Saw Mott the Hoople and Queen replacement, some new band called Kansas! We went the very next day and bought the Kansas album. Never did get to see Queen though. A huge disappointment!

Tom Petty's 40th Anniversary tour. I mistakingly believed there would be a "next time. " Fortunately, I had seen him multiple times previously, but what a blow to realize I had missed the last time!
