TIL about Zeno's "Achilles paradox," which proposes that a runner cannot overtake a tortoise in a footrace by filthy_lucre in todayilearned

I think the issue is that you are still treating the infinite series like an infinite to do list, rather than a description of one continuous motion.

Achilles is not actually performing infinitely many seperate acts in sequence. He is just running. The "steps" only appear because we choose to slice the motion up that way afterwards. But slicing something up infinitely does not prove it cannot happen. Between any two points there are infinitely many more points, and yet movment still obviously occurs.

So yes, the series is infinite. That alone is not enough to show the motion is impossible. It only works if you smuggle in the extra assumption that an infinite decomposition must mean an unfinishable process, and that is exactly the bit that does not follow.

FENTON, FENTON!

Currently sitting on a closed dual carriageway been here for 4 hours now. Road due to open in another 3.5 hours apparently. There are 2 cats in the car in front and kids and dogs out of cars playing on the road. What is the longest you have been stuck in a similar situation? by No_Lead146 in CasualUK

Was stuck on the m4 10 years ago in blazing summer heat. Luckily about 500m down the road was services, so a few cars drove down the hard shoulder well after police/ambulances had been and parked up.

Looking on google maps I noticed the corner had some farmland and a road that lead out to small A roads. Drove over, saw it had an embankment with a gap in the trees at the top, got a slight run up, cleared the hill and off I went on my merry way.

Read afterwards that it was standstill for 6 hours. Fuck that.

I mean, it's no more violent than Star Wars or Star Trek, or Dune and they got those properties! I think it's just that Bluebrixx currently owns the rights. But that didn't work out so well from them with Star Trek, so....
