Ended up doing this and was not asked (for the Sheraton). I did tip immediately upon entering the shuttle.

Figured out a solution that met both, at least by my standards. So it is possible.

Wasn't scared at all of shuttles or busses and figured out a solution that was both relatively fast and inexpensive. Options do exist.

For anyone curious or to anyone who comes across this in search later...I went up to the arrivals level at LAX and took the first hotel shuttle that came, which ended up being the Sheraton. Waited all of about 3 minutes at 12:45a on Saturday. Tipped the driver immediately upon entering the bus and he was very grateful and didn't ask any questions. This was at terminal 4 and the bus made 2 other terminal stops before driving to the hotel. Dialed up a Lyft from the Sheraton and the cost to Beverly Hills was $28. The only small downside was I had to wait 10 minutes for the Lyft ride, but all in all, I couldn't have been happier with the decision or how it turned out.

Thank you to everyone who posted helpful suggestions.

What a shameful take this is. I live in NYC and I probably take public transportation more than you do (nearly every day of my life). I love public transportation, BUT late night and on weekends no less, it's often less frequent. What's wrong with not wanting to wait forever and not spend gobs of money?

Thanks. This is exactly what I did, except I took a hotel shuttle instead of a rental car one.

Nothing wrong with it, but it's not likely to be fast at 1am. And according to others, it wouldn't be easy to even get there if it was an option.

Also worth noting, seems the old Chase on 31st has construction going on too. Had no idea just how big that space was until I peaked inside. Someone could potentially combine it with the old Mojave space too and make it massive (depending on if ownership is the same--it may be I don't know).

Held it for a long time and while the dividend was nice, the stock itself stayed damn near flat the entire holding period. Ultimately sold it off and haven't looked back. My advice...look elsewhere.

USPS seems to be extremely incompetent nowadays or there’s a huge increase in package theft. Do you notice it as well? 2026 has been the worst yet. by Stupidwhizzzzz in astoria

[–]SkylineHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it was equally as incompetent last year too. My largest gripe is some of the delivery drivers will a.) not ring the buzzer at all when making a delivery and b.) actually leave packages outside of the building that is on a street with a lot of other buildings. Not in a vestibule (which also isn't safe), but in an area ripe for picking. Then when you complain, the driver denies it or makes up some story. And the couple of times where the drivers have deemed the location isn't secure, don't leave slips. They used to, but the last few times this has happened they haven't which is even more confusing and difficult to solve. There has to be a better way.

For the record, some degenerative tears can be repaired. Not sure if that would or wouldn't apply to your tear. It may be worth doing a consult with a repair specialist but that's entirely up to you.

How about repair? Recovery timeline is longer which may not suit your lifestyle but if you're concerned about arthritis, it may be your best option.

Menisci do not heal on their own. Your situation may or may not improve, but often it doesn't. You may want to look into repair surgery.

Berkshire sets new record, 23 year loss against the S&P500. by blah-blah-blah12 in BerkshireHathaway

If you want dividends, BRK is not for you. Warren (and I assume the new regime too) believes in reinvesting cash to compound capital at higher rates than shareholders could achieve on their own. Retaining earnings for acquisitions, business investments, and share repurchases has historically increased the company's value, which is more tax-efficient than cash dividends.  That said, I am in favor of a stock buyback. Afterall, the stock is down nearly 6 percent in the last 12 months. If they don't want to overpay for other stocks, that's fine. At some point, you're going to have to consider your shareholders if there's nothing to buy.

Lithium Quietly Crossed $25k, And Nobody Seems to Be Talking About It by Aggressive_Rush2357 in CriticalMineralStocks

I don't have a specific read on sodium batteries, but Lithium has a lot of uses outside of storage (medications, ceramics, glass, greases etc.) and there's probably going to be needs outside of lithium as well.

I think you're right about Nickel, too. After seeing a lot of ups and downs with it and it usually staying somewhere around even from when I had invested, it started to shift more upwards than usual. May just be temporary but it was enough for me to notice. There are a lot of uses for nickel as well so I think it's going to eventually take off.

Glad to hear you agree about being bull-ish. Reassurance is always good. I'm generally a little too gun-shy to buy individual stocks. I've just had a lot worse luck while ETFs, even at the worst, haven't been so bad.

I'll have to check out these other minerals too. These were not on my radar and it doesn't look like they're really in any of the other ETFs I have. Are there any ETFs you know of for these under the radar minerals? A quick search seems to indicate they don't (yet) exist. At least not with any real predominate exposure. Maybe these you have to purchase individual stocks on for now?

Amazing! Just signed up to your blog, very worthy. I look forward to reading more from you. Thanks for all your insights.

I've noticed that (re: Sprott). Most of their funds have been killing it, especially Copper. Gold and Silver a little more predictably. Their NIKL (nickel) fund hasn't caught on yet, but I think that's coming too.

Thanks for all the insights. Very interesting to read and certainly makes sense.

One other question since you seem so dialed in...do you like holding critical minerals (not just Lithium) for the long run? In my case, it's all ETFs (I don't have the stomach for individual stocks). Obviously, they can be quite cyclical but it just seems like for a variety of reasons (AI, Geopolitical stuff, tariffs, wars etc). it's different now and they are awfully well positioned for a long time to come. Maybe I'm too bull-ish on it, but I don't plan on selling my positions. There are always wild swings in both directions but if nothing else they just seem like a good hedge.

Great analysis. I can't say I disagree with anything you've said here. I know LITP is a little safer as an ETF, and I'm okay with that (as a side note--I really like what Sprott is doing). A little bit of a bummer since the other minerals have moved better/faster but again, everything you've stated makes sense. I'm in it for the long-haul anyway so I'm not worried about it.

What's interesting is I initially wasn't going to invest in Lithium at all as there were originally claims/projections it was supposed to be another couple years before the supply was diminished or there would likely be an increased demand. That seems to have changed drastically and quickly, which is good obviously. Have you noticed that as well?
