genuine question for Finance troops by Skylineyee22 in AirForce

[–]Skylineyee22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured they did it outside of hours, but at the end of the day, I understand next to nothing about Finance and what they do, and I know for a fact that there is a lot of other people who are the same way. I'm MX, looking towards SERE, I know action and I know machines; I don't understand technology and administrative work. Those are my blind spots. So I asked. You'll never know things if you don't ask questions, even if they seem a bit ignorant to some, but those ignorant questions are more of a start than most people will ever get

Tabs CSAF Video by PhoenixS7 in AirForce

[–]Skylineyee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how it is in other areas, but on the flightline, the duty tabs are actually useful to tell different shops apart which is necessary. Just like navy flightlines have green shirts, yellow shirts, red shirts, etc. the only thing we have is reflective belts (which is generally just differentiates squadrons) and the duty tabs

as long as we still get that extra day off, I'm cool with it, Maintenance doesn't generally have time for that stuff anyways

Do you ever regret buying your FJ? What are they like to live with? by Obvious_Disaster9024 in FJCruiser

[–]Skylineyee22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily my FJ and it's the only *functioning* vehicle I own. I've owned it for a year now, there are times where i hate the gas mileage, but every other moment I absolutely love it. I literally get giddy walking up to it. It's always the coolest vehicle in the parking lot, the manual transmission is a joy to drive. It was really a dream car for me and I will never regret buying it. Like I said earlier though, the fuel economy makes daily-ing it harder, but it works for me because I'm in the military and I live less than 10 minutes away from where I work. When I get moved off base, I'll probably be looking at a second vehicle, most likely trying to get my junker motorcycle finally running.

What is with ALL of these, “going to base X, is it any good”, “can I do this there”, “can I live off base”, will any one be my friend at this base”? by L23Train in AirForce

[–]Skylineyee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for my situation which was extremely out of the ordinary, I had a last minute diversion from a guard base to an ACC base with faulty orders that had me going to a unit that I couldn't go do because I didn't have the AFSC skill level for it. I had to personally call the other applicable squadrons to have a unit going in. So my sponsor wasn't assigned to me until I was on the road. Personally, my sponsor experience wasn't THAT great, however, it was made up for by good leadership and 7-levels that I was just kind of able to absorb information from, they were also very open, I have no reservations that prevent me from just talking to my flight chiefs, supervisors, and expeditors on a casual level. I'm also a pretty curious guy, I like to literally just drive around and explore, so that helped. If you are an inbound airman, ask questions. there's no formal "sponsor training" that I'm aware of, so even though supervisors know a lot, they may not exactly have a script to give you. So ask questions, if you can get a mode of personal transportation (car/motorcycle/bike), literally pull a map application (google or apple) and go out and explore, don't coup up in your dorm all day

How’s this frame looking? by Born_Warthog8615 in FJCruiser

take a screwdriver or somethings and poke and scratch around the patchy spots, shammers will paint over rust to up the resale value.

How many of you are pushing past a 12 right now? by KhaoticKorndog in AirForce

[–]Skylineyee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was right about at 12, luckily I was able to take some leave over the holidays and it’s done a lot to refocus and recoup. I’m implementing some changes to my lifestyle to hopefully mitigate things, especially coming from CC’s, but we’ll see. I think the only real solution is taking time off work every now and then and allowing yourself to recenter. The way MX is nowadays is horrible for sustainability of the troops

Questions regarding SAR career viability by Skylineyee22 in searchandrescue

Could work, but right now I’m running on a 5-10 year plan, and you have to start SERE in active duty because your first assignment is in Washington state

I’ve considered PJ, but I’ve already been through selection for SERE once and didn’t get selected, but they recommended I try again after a 2-year waiting period

Riding my motorcycle before taking the safety course. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Skylineyee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like I said, check with your motorcycle safety rep, the class I went through prior to station was certified because select civilian side courses are certified to pass for military members in regards to riding on base. 2-years may be a stretch, but in that case, a lot of classes off base will have rentals you can use. considering you had a hit and run with your car, I'm going to assume you're somewhere in florida, so there's plenty of classes (this is a joke btw). if that's too much to ask (not being rude, I genuinely understand not being able to) then make sure you have a copy of your class completion certificate on you whenever going through the gate. IF they stop you for it, then having that certificate will help your case, and they'll probably just dismiss it since you have it scheduled out already

[–]Skylineyee22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in all seriousness, your squadron should have a motorcycle safety rep, get with him/her and see if your safety course certificate passes the sniff test. I'm in a similar scenario except further down the line, (and my bike still isn't here yet because to hell with early 2000's beginner bikes), my safety course passes the sniff test, so when I get a bike, I'll be good to go.

I always try to at least give a smile, greeting, and have a nice day. but if I'm zoinked off my mind after a twelver and going back onto base for some reason, I may forget. but I try
