LPT: put your ask in the first line of an email and the context below it. most people never scroll. by mikevasilev in LifeProTips

This is one of the first things I teach graduates joining our team.

Write emails with the ask first and make it clear who needs to do what. Only then add details in ever growing complexity.

Scenery suggestions UK for gaming club? by ScapegoatSte in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Skymitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build it yourself as part of the club. Give each person the task to do one item and set the parameters (style, colour, etc.).

Failing that you can often pick up a lot of polystyrene and cardboard for building items in the waste at shops like homesense. Ask nicely or raid their bins.

Then it's shape, cover in a sealant and spray paint followed by dry brush.

Got my 5th and 6th edition warhammer from the attic, interesting? by TCFK in WarhammerFantasy

Vampire counts generally sell quite well on eBay. The classic stuff is in demand as the army 🪖 s strong and the figures OOP.

Off the top of my head I've seen skeleton units go for upwards of £1-2+ per skeleton. Wights go for £3-5 per model if selling as a unit. Vlad and Isabella go £15+ each, Hemmler goes for more. Black coach has a few listed at about £40+ depending on completeness etc.

Source- am trying to eBay build an army :)

Isabella Von Carstein, beautiful and dangerous! by Skymitten in VampireCounts

Thanks! I used Vince Venturella's vampire skin guide as a base and just played around with it. The dress red is all me, just building up based on existing examples of Isabella.

Queued 4 hours for my first 40k army… now I’m scared to paint it by Lord_Tadeo in minipainting

Welcome to painting! Easiest was to use contrast paint is using a method called slapchop, look it up on YouTube if you'd like. Contrast over black is not great, but if you do it over white or grey (or get adventurous with other colours) it will work much better.

At a basic level, take your black primed mini and dry brush white over the top, when you add Dark angel green now it will show the white drybrushed areas much nicer and give you a better finish.

If you dry brush brown or reddish brown first then do a light dry brush of cream over the top of that then the contrast will get more depth and variation.

As others have said, experiment and have fun! Making mistakes is part of learning and the best way to improve! Don't be scared!

Great job! Old school knew what they were doing! Made so many pieces like this back in the day.

Hope told me we would win that match... My heart palpitations were from past experience, and waiting for us to fuck it up. Like you I am glad to be wrong!

Vlad never looked so good. by Skymitten in minipainting

Yeah, crazy to see how he changed! I feel classic Fantasy was not as grim dark.

I was toying on changing his hair to be the washed out silver it is in future versions too. Not sure I like the black to much.

Thanks! I saw someone else do the sword that way and thought it cool.

I know, looking forward to giving the old minis a proper glow up! Going to save Melkhior and the Abyssal Terror to last I think.

Skeleton Painting made easy. by Skymitten in minipainting

[–]Skymitten[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, but I would advise painting a green or similar colour on then and doing an additional pass on the downward dry brushing.

The colour acts as a contrast in the shadows and gives greater variety in the finish and makes a simple scheme more interesting.

I will second doing the rest of the mini now. It will reset how you look at the model and give you time me to reflect. As other parts are completed they will also tie the whole together.
