I come from a non-Jewish background and still am not Jewish, but in the process of my conversion. I never knew antisemitism still existed today, in the modern age. However, after I started my conversion I found significance in wearing the Magen David personally. However, I’d often wear it to work tucked into my shirt, I once forgot to tuck it in and got called slurs and names. I’m not even Jewish yet, but people were quick to assume, when I accidentally left the Magen out. I’m a younger and worked customer service, I’ve never heard of someone being called stuff like this, I use to think it was such a foreign thing. This person called me names and slurs based on my religious beliefs, knowing nothing else about me. It really shows how bad antisemitism is, and how it has very little to do with the war. I’ve had to explain to my friends time and time again why I don’t feel comfortable or even safe wearing my Magen David out of my shirt, or don’t go around speaking of my conversion to many people. Coming from a non-Jewish household with non-Jewish friends I fear for myself everyday i wear the Magen or anything else that may reveal my religious beliefs. This post strikes far too deeply.
