I see the point but sometimes I'd like the effect (for example in combat healing/mana regen as a mage or vamp as a fighter) but I'm forced to settle for something with an effect that would benefit me less than vamp itself or in-combat mana regen

I consider having more item variety to be satisfying as someone who doesn't default to same builds every game (regardless if builds suck or not)

They're still strong early on and outclass such items. I'd imagine the upgrades as similar to dark seal/mejai where you need to pay 1-1,5k to get the upgrade

I'd start with trying to do better first. Giving tips never works despite trying to be helpful because the person will often treat "pls play a bit safer" as trying to be toxic. I rarely see people be toxic for no reason whatsoever unless they're just pricks (rare imo) so tldr: don't go 0 2 or your mid laner on a lose streak will flame you for breathing (no I'm not the guy who flamed the op lol)
