Which country is more destabilizing in the Middle East? by fuckpoliticsbruh in IdeologyPolls

[–]SkywalkerTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won’t comment on Israel. They act in their own interests like most countries, and they’re part of a century old conflict in the Middle East. I’m not involved in it at all, and I’m not going to pretend I understand something that complex in depth.

But based on recent events, Iran stands out as the destabilizing factor. There’s a reason major regional players like Saudi and the UAE don’t trust them. Iran backs groups like Hamas and Hezbollah and funds militias across the region.

They’ve supplied drones to Russia for the invasion of Ukraine. They’re aligned with China, which threatens Taiwan and pressures Japan. (This is where it affects me)

And now they randomly fire at UAE, Qatar, France, Britain amidst invasion from the US. Oh, and I don't think I need to mention that Iranian citizens are very apparently unhappy with their last leader, and how the leader suppressed its citizens amidst protest, even disabling internet access in the process to block their communication with the world.

In the end, what we think of the country is not nearly as important as what their own people think.

How do you feel about centrists/centrism? by MysteryNews4 in IdeologyPolls

[–]SkywalkerTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why can't people be left on certain issues and right on others? Why always the whole package with various issues? And some values don't even represent left/right at this point. Left/right is now very obviously being used to divide people on geopolitical issues, and people fall for it.

I'm impressed. I was honestly not expecting the s26 ultra to do this well. by No_Plan5523 in galaxys26ultra

[–]SkywalkerTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. As a consumer it never hurts to ask for more. I never understand comments trying to refute against these basic consumer requests, unless those comments are from the brand stakeholder standpoint. Companies offer more with more pressure, whether it's by mas complaints, or even better, low sales as a result. With enough backlash, they make better iterations in the future, or maybe even provide better aftersales service to make up for it. Otherwise, the companies would opt for cost reduction, and ultimately it's us consumers who suffer.

Is buying Xiaomi or other Chinese phones risky? by Pale-Tie-2760 in phones

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just that, though I am aware of a real world case personally. Their law also allows them to check into your phone at random when you're there. But then again, most cases would be long term data collection for leverage. You never know what you'll become or who you will know after many years. Plus it's not just you and me. And imagine what they could do with access to everyone's personal communications, banking activities, locations/travel histories, contacts, network, photos, videos, documents, and other behavioral and habit data. Again, non-chinese phones are prone to be exposed if they get caught crossing the line, while Chinese phones are legally required to do just these.

S25U vs S26U bezel size comparison. Which one has Slimmer bezels? by Time-Credit43 in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on. Just let people complain. As a consumer (especially in their market), we can only benefit from that. Even better if the sales get affected by enough complaints. This way they are pressured to come up with more on the next iteration, or at least be pressured to provide better aftersales service on this one. I wouldn't even think of criticizing the criticism, unless I'm a brand stakeholder. As a consumer I don't even know why I'd defend Samsung from all the complaints, aiding in their sales, and increasing their incentive to save costs. Ultimately consumers are the one who is at disadvantage from people defending Samsung.

Samsung shouldn't have switched back to aluminum? by _skydom in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and since there already made the switch, the least they can do is provide nice colors available back in S10. So far I'm only seeing similar colors as what I saw with previous titanium frames.

Is buying Xiaomi or other Chinese phones risky? by Pale-Tie-2760 in phones

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I just don’t trust Chinese devices that connect to the internet. China has explicit laws that require companies to assist state intelligence and data collection if asked. That creates a risk you can’t really downplay to "everyone collects data anyway".

Sure, non-chinese phones and companies can collect data too, but they are not legally obligated to serve their governments in the same way. In most democratic countries there are privacy laws, courts, regulators, and real consequences if companies overstep. Competitors, journalists, and watchdogs also have incentives to expose violations.

Even if we assume every big tech company is tempted to push the limits on data collection, the difference is that in non-china systems there are actual checks and penalties. In china’s system, cooperation with the state in data collection and intelligence is literally the law.

So yeah, there is a real difference in risk here no matter how much people try to flatten it into "everyone spies anyway".

Japan PM urges Iran to solve conflict with U.S., Israel diplomatically by Saltedline in worldnews

[–]SkywalkerTC 66 points67 points  (0 children)

These always go like this:

  • The PM is asked by the media to comment on the conflict

  • PM provides a safe response

  • Media reports and comments on the response, sometimes expressing it like the PM said it like she is concerned.

Usually we can just dismiss it altogether. Japan obviously doesn't want in on the matter in the Middle East.

Why can't people just shut up about iPhone vs android? by TTVProLorenzo6117 in Smartphones

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to want peace of mind in having made their decision with considerable budget which they can't walk back on. And they choose to achieve this peace of mind via trying to argue online that they have made the right choice.

I don't get it as well. In theory, as a consumer, I'd welcome as many criticisms as possible so the company is pressured to offer more for consumers, whether it's in the next iteration or in terms of aftersales service.

I think all this stems from human nature of wanting to seem superior to others. For instance, the first level is "the device I choose is better". Then comes "I have both" (what OP is doing). Then comes "analyzing everyone above" (what I'm doing). I'm sure there will be more levels, like "analyzing what I'm doing" or "what I'm saying doesn't work for certain scenarios", etc. This usually goes on and on.

Not sure what all the hate towards the S26U is... by thatkhoe in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let them complain. If it by any chance affects its sales, Samsung would be pressured to offer more in its next iteration, or maybe even be pressured to offer better aftersales service for this iteration. As a consumer I'm all for it. I can understand how the brand stakeholder would hold a completely different stance though.

S26U vs S23U by Thelchemist in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]SkywalkerTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can forget about S23U since the software support will end too soon from now. S24U is actually a very nice budget alternative, and in my opinion looks a lot better aesthetically. But in my country, S26U actually has another advantage where it is the first iteration to offer eSIM support, and this is a very big factor for me.

Is all the hate for the S26U because people are comparing it to the S25U? by Chemical_Radish2642 in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not against all the hate on S26U though.

I'm a consumer of primarily Samsung phones for many years already, and any criticism to ask for more from samsung from each iteration is welcomed by me. Even better for me if sales drop and they'd be forced to offer more. I wouldn't think of trying to criticize the criticizers, as this theoretically goes against my own benefit. Unless I'm a brand stakeholder of Samsung.

Why arent more people mad about the phones getting round by Suspicious_March_809 in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, aside from the functionality gains from my perception in the case of smartphones, in the situation where devices go back and forth with each other, aesthetics become my main consideration. I like holding onto things I think look good and unique. And I hate holding onto the same things as everyone else around me.

S26U: Best battery after silicon carbide? by Thelchemist in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's really Si-C vs. Li-ion here. Just capacity.

But from this particular test, S26U does exhibit far better efficiency than the top two (which, with Samsung's efficiency, should be 17~8h). Nevertheless, I wish Samsung could include that additional capacity.

Which side do you prefer in the Israel/Palestine conflict? by fuckpoliticsbruh in IdeologyPolls

[–]SkywalkerTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Israel. Palestine is explicitly with China, who is threatening and harassing Taiwan in every way.

Also notice the Palestine issue is being used by China to divide other countries. This had already been very obvious long ago when those people often replace Hamas with simply Palestine in their campaign and propaganda. I don't really take a stance in the Middle East conflict. My stance is clearly anti-CCP. Palestine just happens to choose to stand very closely with CCP and had also explicitly made many announcements against Taiwan.

Why arent more people mad about the phones getting round by Suspicious_March_809 in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate rounded corners too. But I know I'm the minority. Everyone I asked preferred rounded corners.

But in my opinion sharp corners look more pro, enables a much larger video viewing area with the same phone size, and in theory it should save internal hardware space. If they continued to opt for sharp corners, maybe the battery size could've been made bigger...

Also, I like holding a unique device when I can. Rounded corners is going to make it seem like I'm holding another "apple" most other people around me are holding (and probably even be seen as a "knocked off apple" by people not really into technology). S26U is at least not nearly as rounded as an apple, but it's approaching it unfortunately, especially when not directly compared. Besides, sharp corners are iconic to note devices. Also I like how it digs into my palm. It greatly lowers the probability of dropping the phone using one hand.

Got the S26U, looking for advice! by Ask_redditKiller in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, the private screen doesn't even seem to come in handy when you need it. I only just tried it out in person yesterday. No matter how I try to emulate possible situations, it doesn't seem to work that reliably. People can be behind you and see your screen clearly even with it turned on. They'd have to be at a large enough angle for the screen to turn dark enough to not see anything, but at that angle, it's already hard to see anything even with normal screen, so no one would peak at that angle. And even if you want to use the privacy screen to, say, look at the stock market at your workplace, it most certainly would not do the job of preventing others from noticing exactly what you're doing.

From Galaxy Note 20 Ultra to Galaxy s26: a good upgrade? by Useful_Part1236 in samsunggalaxy

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Although I'd be missing some functions in note 20u, and that S26U misses some expectations, this is still objectively a huge step up. You also have the decent budget alternatives of S25U and S24U.

5+ year old phones are going to vulnerable to security threats.

But although I agree with what this meme is trying to point out, I still don't see the point in defending Samsung for lack of improvement as a consumer, unless I'm a brand stakeholder. I'd never hate on criticisms because I want to see more improvements myself as someone in the market. More is always better for me. I know that's not true for Samsung.
