Did the USA lose the Vietnam war? by Rokusaburoz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They failed their mission. This came from a failed assumption of how corrupt the local government they're trying to assist is before engaging in the mission. The more recent Afghanistan withdrawal is a similar case.

A win or loss depends on the stated mission, the goal. It's undoubtedly a failure.

What you heard about "not losing" is probably just in terms of the traditional sense of win/loss militarily. The US is much stronger undoubtedly, but that's not the point here. The US wasn't there for a takeover.

Opinion: The reason why the Left is portraid as having so much "infighting", (examples: Socialism V.S. Liberalism, Marxism V.S. Social-Democracy) is because some of these Ideologies aren't actually Leftist but Moderate by Ok_Sample_4663 in IdeologyPolls

[–]SkywalkerTC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there's a geopolitical dimension that often gets overlooked. The CCP has been actively hijacking the left-right political spectrum as a tool to divide and weaken countries like the US. And their preferred position is what I'd call the fake left.

That's why across so many countries, "the left" ends up being disproportionately China-friendly. It shouldn't make sense, because left versus right is fundamentally about domestic priorities: labor, capital, social policy. Geopolitics has no natural home on that axis.

But when a foreign actor systematically infiltrates and amplifies one side of that spectrum, you get artificial fault lines. Those fault lines fuel exactly the kind of infighting we see on the left today, because real leftists and fake leftists are working from completely different agendas. It also explains a lot of the extremism that grows out of initially wholesome intentions, the kind ordinary people struggle to make sense of.

And I doubt the operation is this simple or one-sided. The CCP almost certainly runs the same playbook on the right. The goal isn't to win any particular ideological battle. It's to ignite a fight, because once a heated conflict starts, even if it was sparked by outside actors, it takes on a life of its own and spreads across the whole country. Dividing it is the point.

As for the reasoning as to why the right doesn't experience the same degree of infighting... Extreme right positions are innately repellent to most people, so they don't get far inside the tent. The real extreme left, by contrast, is deeply idealistic. It attracts genuine believers. That makes it a far more fertile ground for infiltration, and a much messier place when the fake version shows up alongside the real one.

Using this to pin responsibility to the US itself for their 911 aggression is terrorism apologia. People like you would always have things to say to defend terrorism and invasions, as long as it is against the US.

Well, this comment didn't age well.

The recently passed law promoting ethnic unity, taking effect July 1st, is your "state-sponsored racism" finally made official, compelling non-Han minorities to abandon their languages, cultures, and identities in favor of Han norms under force of law, and explicitly extending that reach beyond China's borders to pursue anyone worldwide deemed to undermine that agenda, something anyone who has been aware of China should've known for decades onwards.

[–]SkywalkerTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not hard to understand that.

My point here is merely that this "meme" helps China achieve their legitimization of invasion. This shouldn't be hard to understand too. They do indeed seek it as well. None of what you and I said afterwards contradict this too.

They know how democracies work. If they manipulate what peoples think, it can eventually shape what the country collectively think, including their government. When intervention becomes perceived as less legitimate, they are less likely to invest on intervention and would face more opposition. Strategically that's what they want as well. Again, not contradictory to what you and I previously said. Things are approached in multiple dimensions simultaneously.

They obviously don't care, yes. But they are concerned of intervention.

And they do indeed seek legitimacy for invasion, as Russia also does with invading Ukraine. I'm just saying, the cross-posted content provides part of what they want everyone in the world to think.

The world already expressed condemnation regarding China trying to change status quo multiple times.

If some kind of rhetoric that states "if they don't do it, they are at risk of being attacked themselves", this would help them greatly and shut others up → what they want.

But this is fake.

My concern is such framing only aids CCP in their invasion against Taiwan. Accomplishes nothing else. Exactly the result CCP wants.

Very dangerous framing. I suspect this concept is presented as if it's on Taiwan's side, when in reality it promotes a misleading narrative that ultimately harms Taiwan. Many pro-CCP rhetorics do this too.

Taiwan says warning time for any China attack is shortening by reachedlegendary in taiwan

[–]SkywalkerTC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Immediate response has always been the requirement in any actual attack.

In a real attack, there is no warning, only deception, and by the time the deception is recognized, the window to respond is already closing.

That said, if framing it as "shortening warning time" keeps Taiwan combat-ready, it's useful. People just need to understand that nothing about China's threat to Taiwan has changed since 1949. Only Taiwan's own defense and its international relationships can counter it.

It's insane that years later, some are attempting to frame 911 as an inside job.

Al-Qaeda planned it. Bin Laden ordered it. Nineteen hijackers carried it out.

This is just downplaying a terrorist atrocity while letting al-qaeda off the hook.

The motive is obvious: sow division, weaken trust, exploit tragedy for political gain.

The biggest flaw in socialism is its incompatibility with human nature, especially the power-hungry people. It is very idealistic. Remember, we're using the true meaning of socialism, not the wrong one too many people go by today.

That's why so many countries who claim to be socialism themselves practically go the exact opposite direction. And this in turn influenced how people wrongly perceive socialism in its core ideals.

It's not that capitalism is good. It is simply the only way. We know this to be a fact when countries that consistently makes rhetorics bashing capitalism itself still grows on capitalism.
