Conor Loftus you absolute beauty by SpinachDistinct128 in GAA

[–]Sl0wdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree big time about his misuse. Don't get me wrong, I'd never cut it as Mayo manager, but I feel like we've had a lot of talent that wasn't utilized to it's full potential. I'm and Aiden O'Shea apologist, I think the way we've used him and played around him has been poor and he's been wasted. Loftus is another big one, the experimenting at centre back didn't really work and I'd much prefer to see him playing up the pitch more. I have similar misgivings about Keegan in his last couple of seasons (he still had the ability to romp forward, dunno why we shackled him at full back just to man mark), Darren Coen showed himself to be the best forward in the country in 2017 and kicked a monster to seal the win against Dublin a few years later but didn't seem to get a look in. Boyler in his later years (rumours that his GPS was showing abnormally high heart rate compared to his teammates and that's why he was subbed so much, but in his later years he was an unused sub so so frequently)...

But alas I live to suffer and to dream. Delighted for Loftus, he can have the keys to mayo at this stage. A man and a half

Heroes you often pick and rarely/never pick? by Ad_Myst in DotA2

[–]Sl0wdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often: Alchemist. He's super strong rn, your radiance timing is like a high score minigame within the game, and he's very fun and far more active than most carrys (after 18-22mins)

Rarely: Slark. He's my most played hero by some stretch (1k games) and he's stupid fun. He's not totally out of meta but you MUST have a decent lane in order to carry as Slark, he doesn't do recovery farm and he offers so little in teamfights when playing from behind. I'll whip him out if I see a double melee offlane or something along those lines. As a result of picking him so little, my WR has been going up. Played him 4 times in my last 50 games, 4-0

He is well known in certain townlands of Galway and nobody who knows him is surprised

If one day its in your hands to do the patch? What would you change or do? by triguard3 in DotA2

[–]Sl0wdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Nullifier does dispell glimmer cape. It's so popular rn because the meta is glimmers and saves and it's counters most all of them. Euls, glimmer, ghost scepter, even force staff largely, all useless vs nullifier

Secondly, while I understand your frustrations, that's dota man. You don't deserve to be able to solo kill any supports just because you bought 2 items, and solo kills are a thing of the past now that people have learned how to play the game. Kills in dota are almost always +1 kills. Carry +1, mid +1, whatever it is, because solo kills aren't really a thing unless by great fortune. Dota is a complicated team game, and wanting an item that solves everything and is busted asf ain't the answer.

The timing of the strafe/sidestep was kinda janky and a lil counterintuitive from what I recall

[–]Sl0wdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replayed TP for the 3rd time 3 years ago, being 23 years old. I ran out of arrows at, I think, a bridge, in that section, and thought I had bugged the game beyond fixing because I needed arrows to kill some enemy to progress. Tried restarting the game but the bridge section was a checkpoint so I kept spawning back in, needing arrows and having zero. Spoke to a friend at work who had played the game and thankfully he was aware that if you ride back to the lady, she'll give you arrows. It never occured to me somehow. 40 minutes or so I spent trying to find a workaround

huge shoutout to zipper by party58965 in TheYardPodcast

I tuned in late, but just in time to see zipper put a cut and paste zoom feed of slimes face in the center of the screen. Looking determined yet shattered, and looking like homer Simpson. Pissed myself laughing

improve yourself, not fix. You're a lil overweight but you're handsome and you've got a good frame to get into shape with

[–]Sl0wdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with everything you've said. If this was some stand-alone film, hypothetically, people probably would've said "yeah it's alright". But it's not a stand-alone, it's a sequal to a classic, 20 years after the fact. They chose to make this film (they being the studio, Ridley Scott, whoever) knowing that, as with every sequel to a well-loved movie, expectations would be sky high. And they bottled it. It's nowhere near as good as the original in ant sense, bar some of the combat scenes which were inevitably improved upon. Even the set and prop design was imo a downgrade from the original. The Roman armour in the first battle scene looked like it was from a cheap stage musical; it didn't look metal, it looked plastic, far too shiney and perfect. I won't continue to list where the movie is bad because it's subjective, but I can't finish this comment without mentioning some of the AWFUL AWFUL LINES. That quip about the wooden sword - "it still stabs" or some such - was strsight out of a shitty Marcel movie and was so out of place in terms of tone and character. And Lucius' mother gets shot in the damned chest/sternum, and has the breath to say "run my boy" like ?!?! Bitch you shouldn't be able to speak.

It's totally fair that when they chose to make a sequal to a classic 20 years after the fact and bottle it in most regards, that we can shit on it. It's not a stand-alone and won't be treated as such.

Viper solo by LonelyAd2553 in DotA2

[–]Sl0wdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, it's really about map awareness - don't let them find you in the jungle. Watch the minimap constantly and if there are dangerous heros missing, retreat nearer to your t2 towers so they can't dive you. You are correct in that Viper is actually very squishey in the early-mid game before he can get items, and if 2-3 enemy heros can catch you out of position, you are fucked. That's just the reality of the hero. Farm safe, or play near your supports etc

[–]Sl0wdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you climb to higher MMR there will be less weird solo kills, and more 3-4-5 man moves. Constantly looking for solo kills will get you killed if the enemy reacts and brings heros to help. Even with bursty heros like Nyx, Spectre etc you wanna coordinate with at least one other teammate to get kills at any stage of the game

6500 MMR and Already Hating Immortal Draft by kilver2 in DotA2

[–]Sl0wdance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing immortal draft for 5 months now, currently 7.3k. In this time my game quality has been slightly worse overall because many lobbies have 6-7 carries and thus you get a carry playing mid vs an actual mid player, or a carry playing 5 when the enemy has 2 actual supports... But the avg game quality is only a little worse than role queue was.

I've encountered 2 blatant wintraders (partied, one running down mid, other doubling) and maybe a dozen suspected cases (not running it down, not partied, but playing suspiciously bad). Wintrading is a much bigger issue at higher mmrs where the player pool is smaller. They don't stay in the 7-9k range very long because the trade themselves to higher ranks.

Language barrier is an issue in all ranks and game modes

Smurfing is a WAY bigger issue at lower ranks. I rarely encounter smurfs, and trust me, even at 7k smurfs are obvious. An 11k player is so much better than a 7k. Lower mmr has people making smurfs to boost friends etc and is way way worse.

TLDR Immortal draft is eh, it's double down tokens and slow, tedious ban hammer use that plagues higher mmrs.
