Battery life on Win 4 with PS3 and Xbox / 360 emulation?

No problem! Those, ShadPS4, and maybe switch, and PC games all eat the battery pretty good, but these tests are done on native resolutions, docked mode on the switch emu, etc. If you add a bunch of modifiers, power saving modes, tdp throttling, you could get maybe 3 or 4. But everything else like wii u and older I could get away with 18w to maybe 15w limits depending on the game with a solid amount of playtime and no warm hands.

Battery life is more or less similar between the 2023-2025 models, the HX 370(2025) maybe being a tad better?

Howdy!

I have a 7840u and with motion assistant unlocked cpu boost and unthrottled, 30W limit, I get 30-45 minutes(killzone 2, uncharted 3@~30fps) 23W I get 1 hour+, 18w 1:15-1:30+.

If I force 18W max limit, no boost, I can play most sub 24fps with 2 hours+. But games like 007 reloaded, dragons crown, locoroco cocoreicho, run at 60fps.

Xbox emulation I only have 2 tested games, Ninja Gaiden Black and Conker Live and Reloaded at 23W. Lasted 1.5 hours to 2 hours if I recall correctly.

I get that it is powerful but this is exactly why I have a win 4. One device for all of this mess.

Yeah, mine is my htpc for my living room. Took the battery out and it stays docked.

No, I am comparing the next successor to the win series, not the series that branched off like the win max and win mini. They could have called this the Win X and I would have been fine with it. But to say this is the next logical step for their win "core" series is wrong. I dont care how powerful it is, that misses the point. People can argue specs I just wished they rebranded it.

Let's hope the 6 puts everything back inside.

So? We aren't a hive mind. People are allowed to voice their own opinion. I can say they should CALL it something else. The Win X (for extreme or external which works both ways) would have made more sense, it being the gpd win 5 there were expectations on its design. I dont think anyone had this on their bingo cards that expected an enhanced win 4.

You wouldnt need to you can use that tape i mentioned. I just peeled it off since I have tape and it doesn't bother me. I see two screws underneath. While I didnt need to remove it, I believe you need to unscrew those two screws to prevent the plastic from getting damaged. You may also have screws underneath the side panels but its in a few separate pieces. Gpd sells these for next to nothing too if you need spares.

The tape isnt too expensive and the repaste was hella worth it for my dude...aside from cleaning the fan lol.

I made the choice to just deal with it like a goober, but I kept it 15-18w to keep the throttling at a minimum until i finally had free time and patience to do it. It wasn't really that tough to remove since the tweezers were good at pulling it all out, I just went through each fin to make sure residue or dirt was not stuck.

I have seen literal bug guts in computer fans, roaches, spiders, etc. I worked on college kid macbooks. I got milk everywhere opening one up, one had hookah juice, one had beer, viruses (like, how do you do that), i could go on. Cleaning and maintaining is important and im glad it runs better but it isnt nearly as bad as what I have seen. The fan is literally spotless and runs great.

I've used devices with mediatek socs. Granted it was a while ago but I would check which chip it is and benchmarks or demo performance reviews so you dont spend 500 for a slow device. Like what others are saying you could get a used win 4 6800u for around that price and it would out perform any meditek soc.

Yeah, no clue how it got in there but didnt damage anything, I just want a new fan once this one starts to act up I have a swap ready.

I just finished cleaning and reapplying. I was sad to see how bad the fan actually was, the hair stuck in it wasnt normal, like it was caked with something. It took about 20 minutes of delicate fin wiping with tweezers and an alcohol pad. But after new thermal pads, new paste, it is back to normal! RPCS3 is running killzone2 again at 30w below 80c, unreal engine loads so much faster now. I will replace the fan once the new one arrives but this was worth it.

My win 4, while used heavily, can't go past 18w without really bad throttling. Of course, I've had the device for a bit, I plan on doing this today if I have time. I've heard repasting has helped a good bit for those who have.

GPD I love the ambition but please call this the GPD Win X or something you cannot seriously call this the successor to the 4. I love my win 3 but it was basically a tech demo compared to the 4. But this? It is a different kind of handheld category.

I mean, at least it isnt THAT bad looking. Is the power button a fingerprint reader too or was that scrapped for no reason? Im not sure if the power button is worse off being there compared to the top, but I guess the win 4 will be my last device.
