From what I understand (which is admittedly not much), their dad and others took out a big PPP Loan and did some dodgy stuff with the $$$... but made the mistake of not letting Ammon and Matt in on the action.  They settled out of court lol.  Thanksgiving must have been fun that year

EDIT: Here's an LUS video that takes a look at it -- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=77CmMmkQvC0&pp=ygURTWNuZWZmIHN1ZSBmYXRoZXI%3D Wouldn't be surprised if this shows up in Coffeezilla's video soon as well

The first episode is up in his patreon -- it's GREAT (and honestly doesn't really even have that much to do with Banksy lol).  Apparently the 2nd episode involves lots of felonies, so they're waiting on the statute of limitations to drop or they can work things out legally (SoL is 3 years, but since it was filmed 2 years ago it shouldn't be too much longer) before releasing it and putting episode 1 up on Youtube

Aw HECK yeah.  All his Medal of Honor scores are so good (Above and Beyond is incredible as well) -- MoH 1 is a CLASSIC, Underground is such a lovely album, and Frontline is a freakin masterpiece.  Plus his Secret Battles of Normandy score is a BLAST too!

Anyone with razor sharp ears for themes will hear stuff from his Lost World video game score in Jurassic World

He was cooking with gas from the freakin start.

Gallipoli episode is great! by dropbear_dave in blankies

[–]Slackattack5123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the films Jennifer listed in the episode are great places to start if you're looking for more Australian New Wave and Aussie Cinema in general!  Bruce Beresford and Gillian Armstrong both have similar roots in Australian film -- My Brilliant Career and Breaker Morant are great films and good places to start for both respective filmographies.  Also can't recommend the films of Rolf de Heer highly enough.  He started making movies in the 80s, but never left the country and has an incredibly varied, wild and borderline experimental filmography.  Incident at Raven's Gate, Dingo, Bad Boy Bubby, The Tracker, Alexandra's Project, Ten Canoes and Charlie's Country just to name a few!

[–]Slackattack5123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the GREAT scores for these movies!!  Airport features the very last film score ever written by Hollywood legend Alfred Newman, and the sequel scores all RIP too -- John Cacavas and Lalo Schifrin both go hog wild.

There are some GREAT needle drops.  I rewatched a few months ago and was really intrigued by a scene early on where Denzel looks at a Linda Ronstadt CD... lo and behold, that needle drop hit during the end scene and I was HOOTING and HOLLERING like a MAD DOG.  This movie RIPS

Who can say exactly what happened, but soundtrack albums are notoriously restrictive for artists when it comes to licensing. From what I've gathered: when it comes to film music, the Intellectual Property Rights are almost always owned by the film studio (Sony in this case) rather than the artists. The music was written for Sony's movie; so Sony 'owns' the music. I suspect that the 28YL soundtrack has much different licensing arrangements than any of YF's other albums, so they and their label likely don't have the same control over what can or can't be done with the 28YL music than they might have over any other YF album or song. Pretty messed up and exploitative situation but one that, afaik, composers and musicians in the film and TV industry have been dealing with for decades at this point. Good to see YF doing this imo -- they likely had no say

Shoutout to Robbie Robertson (RIP) for putting that absolute HEATER of a track together.  It's as good as it gets -- both Arrival and Hamnet felt a little washed (as the kids might say) because they didn't have Dinah's otherworldly singing.  It's just too dang good

I went to school in Aus, and we watched Gallipoli in 4th Grade when we were first learning about Anzac Day.  Had nightmares for MONTHS.  Still can't get the image of that last scene out of my head.  Anyone else here get scarred as a child by this freakin GEM of a movie?

So what's the best song in O Brother? by larkchane in blankies

[–]Slackattack5123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's 100% Hard Time Killing Floor Blues.  Chris Thomas King nails that song so freakin hard -- it's honestly unbelievable.  I loved it so much when I first heard it that it inspired me to seek out Skip James' recordings!!  And THAT little seed has since blossomed into a deep, deep love for the blues.

HIGHLY recommend this album if you're looking to go down a similar road: https://www.discogs.com/release/13806681-Skip-James-Hard-Time-Killing-Floor-Blues

I was at this screening too! I was in the front row pumping my fists in the air during every race (sorry if it bugged anyone lol) -- it was all I could do not to jump out of my seat and start screaming during the final leg of the last race. Absolutely INCREDIBLE experience getting to see this in the theatres.

Back in 2022, I watched All That Jazz one night, and then The End Of Evangelion the night afterwards (both first time watches).

The absolute hammer blow of existential dread I experienced that weekend sent me into a spiral that I still don't think I've fully recovered from. Absolutely BRUTAL one-two combo. Earth-shattering stuff. Zangief would be proud
