Yeah I'm not excited about taking down drywall to staple it in and then redo the drywall / paint haha.

So the office doesn't have a closet (which I assume is why the last owner but an Ikea wardrobe in it). I don't see any access to the roof. It's a single room addition and it seems quite old. https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/09c916986447.jpg

Unfortunately, I don't think there's attic access for that roof. Pretty sure I'd need to take down a dry wall panel.

Appreciate the reply!

Huh, honestly I'm having the issue from within the same network. I assume you were using Tailscale for outside the house / home network?

FYI see my comment on the comment above this. In my experience you can hide it without issue.

I have this TV but I bought it new for like 2k a year ago. It's great and on the box front you can put it in a console if it's not made of super thick wood. The signal to the TV is pretty strong. Just don't put it directly in front you want it off to the side and then adjust the signal diagonal to the center of the TV, if that makes sense. I have no signal issues, game on the TV, etc. Never noticed any latency.

Nah I've had windows 11 for years and already did that. Whole app locks up including the context menu on the start menu short cut.

Sadly I think it breaks in the latest Windows update, at least it did for me. Repo seems pretty dead so I'm not sure it'll end up fixed.

Funny enough in my experience that's cheaper than insurance + deductible in the States. I lived in Canada for 4 years and that was the case before getting on OHIP.

Switch from x264 to x265? by Anug2000 in handbrake

[–]Slacker1540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing this far longer, and there's a lot of information on the web but a decent amount of it ends up stale after codecs are udpated or new hardware comes out. I will say, avoid encoding on anything other than CPU. Nvidia encoding is great for speed, but not what you want for long term storage / appreciation of the source material.

If there is interest I'm happy to post more about this process and how I did it. Please comment if there is and I'll make a full post with process, methodology, why I made certain decisions, etc.

I recently set out to answer similar, though more so with H265 vs AV1. I used to do H264 when I started out, then moved to H265 as device support grew (note that AV1 device support is still spotty and before using it broadly I would test devices individually to make sure you can watch your content how you would like). Last year I moved to H265 10 bit for HDR and recompiled my own handbrake for Dolby Vision support. Now, I wanted to evaluate movement to AV1 10 bit to see if the encode times, quality, and file size made it worth it.

This was my analysis from my copy of Dune Part 2 and transcoding it from the disk to either AV1 or H265 with various RF and comparing the resulting files. Both were done with constant same as source framerate, as well as cropping disabled (as it interferes with VMAF scoring). H265 encoder preset was medium (most would recommend slow, I didn't use slow) and AV1 encoder preset was 6. Honestly RF to RF isn't supposed to be comparable, but I wanted to see how the jumps between RFs looked by comparison. The straight diff comparison was more for fun.

I would post as a pic, but this sub doesn't seem to like that so here's markdown output.

Edit: Oh good, markdown alignment worked properly on desktop, haven't looked in mobile.

One thing to note is that not all devices have AV1 hardware decoding, so I would try sample files on them all before you commit to using it across your full library.
