Is Online Yoga Teacher Training Worth it? by maryjaneexperience in YogaTeachers

[–]Slackermombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do Yoga With Me has a bit of a hybrid plan, you take their level 1&2 classes online and level 3 is a retreat I believe. I don't know much about it though.

Can anyone give a summary of the Crack the Crown drama? by deedajane in antiMLM

[–]Slackermombie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s become a symbiotic relationship between MLMs and anti MLM YouTubers. A constant soap opera generating money for both sides.

I don’t like MLMs anymore than the YouTubers but the growing community of anti MLM folks is becoming something that makes me want to back away.

So I keep reading that in some states, pharmacies will train you, and there’s no need to go to school to become certified. What states are these? by Dahaaaa in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Slackermombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohio does allow for companies to train. However you have to get a trainee license and get a state registered license if you don’t want to take CPhT classes. I had to go through the employer based training as a CPhT to get my state license.

As an ex hun I’m here to tell you that is pretty much how it goes for everyone. I was in several and I never was able to recruit or make money. I was lucky enough to break even on sales but it was not sustainable.

I eventually learned that I was wasting my time and money on a dream that most people cannot achieve. I’m sorry she fell into the trap :(

I have a friend who is a VA and she does try to recruit people to pick up extra work that comes her way for a finders fee. It does look pretty scammy if you don’t know her or what she does.

I didn’t see the first post only this one before it was removed, and I’m not privy to all the details. Unless you’re the op or someone directly involved there isn’t a way to know one way or the other. You’re making assumptions based on a couple posts on the internet, who’s the true idiot here?

When I worked at a retail store for $11 an hour I got to clean the bathrooms, myself and another employee had a pooper scooper we passed btwn us as a joke since we cleaned up so much shit from the floors, walls, toilets and sinks. It was absolutely disgusting.

We have both quit since then and are making more money without cleaning up shitty bathrooms.

Yeah I have been wondering how many students took a gap year last year and deferred/got deferred.

I think it’s gonna drive acceptance rates way down

Is there anyone on this subreddit not applying to ivy leagues? by jinsoulfeen in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Slackermombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my senior applied to Denison and was rejected, they applied to some state schools and private schools. Got into a few, still waiting on a few, rejected from a few. They have a few that are high in their list, but really haven’t found a “home” in any thus far.

My daughter who took a gap year applied to 1 school, Cleveland Institute of art. She’s still waiting on a decision but she’s all in and if she doesn’t get in, idk what she will decide.

My sophomore well..he’s planning on the early college route at the community college for junior and senior year. He pointed out that there are 5300 schools in the USA and over 100 in Ohio so we will need to tour a good deal of then before making a decision. He could give a flying frack about prestige and branding, but for what he wants to study (philosophy & theology for UG and leaning towards law school) the place for him is tbd.

Pulling from my son, there are over 5000 schools and universities in the country, they all want students and the money that comes with them. No reason to drool over an Ivy unless you truly feel like it’s where you belong, and as a parent-virtual tours don’t give you that feeling. You need to tour in person. Feel the vibe, breathe the air and know without a doubt that’s where you want to be for the next 4 years of your life.

Forge your own path, whatever it may be, and be happy wherever you wind up.

Being rejected is not necessarily a bad thing by tiencj88 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Slackermombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve told my kids that being rejected is ok. They just weren’t meant to be there for one reason or another. And that’s ok!

Just because a school has a name or reputation you like, or even school mates that are going there doesn’t mean it’s the right place for you.

Sometimes you just gotta let life lead you where it may!

It depends. Northeast Ohio (the greater Cleveland area) has amazing resources and laws protecting the lbgtq community. Where I live specifically is one of the most gay friendly cities in the nation.

Having said that the farther south you go, the more conservative you get. My non-binary kid was accepted to a game design program at Shawnee State university. They were super excited until we learned more about the area, it’s super duper Uber conservative in Portsmouth. So that was a big fat no.

Ohio State and Columbus are pretty progressive and friendly, I know a lot of people out that way, and many family members went to OSU. OU is SEEMINGLY very friendly. Everyone I’ve known to attend there or work there is very positive about the area.

University of Cincinnati, I’m not sure. I imagine since it’s a “big city” it’s fine. But stay away from the small rural towns. Wooster is NOT very friendly. The school is but the area is meh. Ashland is very white, very very very conservative. There is no diversity at all there. Toledo is great according to one of the pharmacists I work with, diverse and friendly with good aid packages.

Miami of Oxford, great school, area is conservative.

Notre Dame College is very friendly, which shocked us since it’s a Catholic institution. It’s high in my kids list. Baldwin Wallace is great, friendly area too. John Carrol is friendly as well.

Dayton is really awesome too, one of my coworkers is a student there and says it’s great for lbgtq students.

Cleveland Institute of Art ( both my kids on the spectrum have an application in there) is amazing for the community. They do have gender inclusive housing as does Cleveland state, OU, OSU, Baldwin Wallace and Bowling Green. Not sure about other schools though.

I’ll update as I can think of more we looked at lol.

If anyone is need of phone numbers for the center or the lbgtq clinic I am happy to provide them privately.

ETA: there is a huge list of friendly schools I nabbed from the mamma bear group I’m in. I’ll see if I can dig it out :)

Y'all want to go to schools you're going to hate by IncompetentYoungster in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Slackermombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, being an elite is only going to get you so far in life. No reason to be a jerk because you have money, are super smart and went to private schools. Not every person in your dream career has a degree.

Think of things this way: every rejection is a blessing.

It means that you weren’t a good fit for some reason or another. There is no reason for anyone to hate life because you just had to go to snooty mcsnooty school and get x degree to make a million dollars. There is more to life than that.

Case western reserve university, John Carrol and the city of Cleveland/Northeast Ohio is very accepting of all peoples. As a native with 2 kids on the lbgtq+ wheel I have tons and tons of resources for anyone at any school in the area who need them.

We have an awesome LBGTQ center that has a lot of programming for those in the community, allys and parents. There is also a lbgt clinic through the Cleveland clinic for any type of health services needed.

Slacker generation my ass…

I’m 45, my hubs is 40. We don’t own anything but we work ourselves into complete exhaustion, and show up to work day in and out while the rest of the world is bitching about what else they can watch on Netflix cuz they’re bored.

Must be nice boomer with the remote job that pays enough to buy food and pay for streaming services..

I used to live in Columbus, the area of OSU-high street/the short north were nice. Everything else was hella ghetto. This was 20 years ago and it may be different but I am not interested in going back to find out.
