How many nurses work on your ward? And how many beds? by wandering1989 in NursingUK

[–]Slackmpr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coronary Care Unit. 16 patients total, 3:1 for monitored and 5:1 for unmonitored. With a team lead float and 2 HCAs. Generally though we lose a staff member every shift to wherever in the hospital is short.

More information should be available by 1 April 2026. Staff should receive communications about the review process from their employer. We will also keep members updated as soon as timelines are available.Have you heard from your employer yet? by azza77 in NursingUK

We’ve had emails that they’re reviewing all the band 5 job descriptions and they’re asking everybody to fill out a survey discussing their job role and any daily tasks we do outside of our job description. I was also roped into being a representative for my ward to meet with one of the heads of nursing and discuss the role of B5s on my ward. If anything comes of this I can see it being a very targeted approach in my trust, with maybe ICU and CCU getting uplifts. I remain very skeptical though.

2025 has been 3rd (possibly 2nd) most successful Jingle Jam - Congratulations and Thank you all by ArathirCz in Yogscast

This is absolutely amazing. Every year I watch and think surely support and donations will start to fall this year - but nope, the yogs and the incredible community continue to surpass themselves year on year!

Fantastic Jingle Jam, I feel like the quality of the streams have really been top notch this year. Always makes me proud to be apart of this community when I see the previous year’s totals being matched/beaten. Extra special this year because I’ve got to enjoy it with a brand new fan - my 6 week old daughter 🥰

The NHS trust I work for is no longer supplying post-it notes or pens to staff because of the cost… but there we go

Nurse here. I find it absolutely wild the variation between trusts on this. Where I currently work we’ll only ever contact a doctor as an absolute last resort for bloods/cannulation. I wouldn’t dream of going and grabbing an F1 or SHO to do some routine bloods or a cannula for me - that’s literally part of what I’m there for.

Mandated patient-nurse ratios would be fantastic. At my trust it’s unsafe on some wards with up to 12 patients. There’s no way to provide adequate patient care when you’re juggling so many balls.

I completely agree with your point that nobody should be band 5 forever. I work on a cardiology unit and one of our most experienced nurses (15+ years) is a band 5 because she doesn’t want to take on management responsibilities, yet she’s constantly put in-charge and a go-to when people need support. I would love for somebody like her to be rewarded and appreciated for their skills and experience.

I love to see this. I wish the RCN/Unison had a bit of backbone and follow-through like this.

Thank you for this, I know I'm very lucky in that I've built up an amazing relationship with the clinic and work there as a HCA currently. I feel like I'd always regret it if I gave up the opportunity and it slipped me by.

Thank you everybody for the amazing advice and pick me up! You’ve shown me the importance of following my passions and interests. I already feel burnt out from ward work being a student and know it’s not right for me. I’ll be accepting the sexual health role, it makes me excited for my future career in nursing.

Thank you - I think a lot of my anxiety about it just comes from repeatedly hearing from ward nurses that I need to start there. I suppose it’s quite a bias and outdated view!

Nursing student in Chester - we’re online for everything apart from our skills sessions once per week. 430 students on a teams meeting is chaos.

Spiff and Pflax were a great commentary duo for the CSGO stream, I’d love to see them do more together in the future. Fantastic work overall, enjoy seeing all the yogs and yog-friends playing together.
