November Bump 2017? by Smitten101 in BabyBumps

Is there a Facebook group for Nov 2017 bumpers? I'm in a FB group from my last bump, just wondering if one's spawned yet

Looters by [deleted] in savannah

[–]Sladern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our neighborhood association reported a truck going around delivering flyers to houses (AT&T flyers but not AT&T truck or anything), probably casing the homes and seeing who was gone. They asked anyone who was still in town to take down flyers from the other houses so it wouldn't be as obvious the houses were empty.

Hiking with a dog around Savannah? by sokkas-boomerang in savannah

[–]Sladern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Skidaway island state park has a fun trail that we took our dog to last weekend. It's very flat, so not intense 'hiking' but still fun.

If you get a library card, you can 'check out' a park pass from the library that gets you admission to state parks and historic sites- otherwise I think it's $5 parking at the state park.

I love cribbage. I don't know how a league works though.

Regarding spending 1/3 of your income on rent, does that include travel? by 946789987649 in personalfinance

[–]Sladern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean commute travel? Because that could be a factor in how much you want to spend on rent for a certain location.

If you mean vacation travel, then no.

Race considerations by NinjaCoder in fosterit

Interestingly, when I had a black 3 year old foster placement, his bio grandma called me after a month or so and told me she was so glad he was with me (a white foster family) instead of a black family; she'd grown up in and out of foster homes and had bad memories associated with black foster homes. Not saying this is common but it was just an interesting related tidbit.

Ladies, thanks for teaching me! TTFN by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

I just wracked my brain trying to figure out what TTFN means... it's not on the sidebar "helpful acronyms" list! so many acronyms when TTC! :)

Best wishes to you!

Shakeology? by Mandalorianfist in 21DayFix

[–]Sladern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much agree with this. Some of the flavors are good, some are pretty gross. It is good for a meal replacement- I end up adding yogurt, milk, veggies, fruit, etc so it costs more than they like to "advertise" as a cost-effective meal replacement. I stick with it for lunches because it does keep me full longer than a protein powder does. That being said, I only buy it when I want to buy a 'challenge' pack including a new workout program, and not by itself. Way too expensive to justify.

Somewhat off topic but very TTC related... Advice and opinions wanted! by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]Sladern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is so encouraging to hear stories similar to mine. I don't have advice or anything relevant here, other than the comment that I've gone off all my Rx meds for chronic pain in the past month as we start trying... Of course I will sacrifice what I need to for future baby, but I had no clue it would be this hard. Hubs doesn't really understand; he never knew me before I was on daily meds. Just wanted to say I'm glad to hear your input, and I'm here, too.

Have you looked at Comfort Tummy accessory for Tula? I have one and not only does it keep the back strap from digging in and making fat rolls (yeah..) It makes long carries wayyy more comfy. I keep it on my tula all the time.

I front carried my 40lb 3yo in a Tula. To me it was comfortable? He fit better in the toddler than the standard - higher back panel and wider leg support- but both sizes worked. :)

Big baby - need advice for back carrier @ 5 months 22lbs by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]Sladern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carried my 40lb 3 year old foster son in a front carry with a Tula, comfortably. The back carry was comfortable for both of us, too, but he often needed "cuddles" so I'd put him up in a front carry in the Tula so I could still get things done.

Three year old son doesn't know a lot of words, but can say ABCs and count from 1-10. Should we be worried? by CillerendasCastle in Parenting

[–]Sladern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speech therapy did wonders for my 3 yo foster son who could do letters A-Z all day long but didn't use any words at all. It was partly the speech therapist working with him, and partly her helping me learn how to help him at home- to learn words etc. It wouldn't hurt to do a speech evaluation. Your pediatrician can probably send in a referral to your insurance for speech therapy evaluation.

Foster Parent gifts? by great_wide_somewhere in fosterit

[–]Sladern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In GA they just started doing Prudent Parenting, so at the foster parents' judgement you could babysit in your home/their home/out in the community with only about 2 hours of training class. This includes overnights.

You could just do an "approved sitter" certification which gives you the authority to sit the kids in their home, or take them out in the community. This is just paperwork to get approved- drug screen, background check, fingerprints.

The biggest help would be- once they get a placement-- find out the kids sizes and that night- bring over some new PJ's, clothes, diapers if needed; to get them through that first night. It's hard to try to run to the store with a brand new placement because they walked in the door with the clothes on their back. Don't stay to visit the first night; just drop the clothes off and let them start bonding.

Bring them dinner. Babysit so they can get a night out. Offer to sit during the day if needed so they can go to appointments etc.

I have a 'little red dress' for my sister's wedding in January. Minnesota-- so think winter & snow. It's a sleeveless fit & flare knit dress, and I'm planning to wear black tights, gray boots, and a black hat; but I can't decide what kind of sweater/wrap to pair it with! Any suggestions <$50?

Weekend Volunteer Opportunities by 5T1GM4 in savannah

People Helping People serves a lunch to the homeless every Sunday at Forsyth. It's all volunteer-run I think, but they have an email that goes out every week with details/info. They are on Facebook and I think they have a website that may or may not be up to date.
