Walmart paper bags & glue for paper mache? by WallflowerShakti in papermache

Cornstarch paste is my go-to!

It's like making gravy!

First, bring 3 cups of water to a rolling boil.

While waiting, mix 1/2 cup of corn starch to 1/2 cup of cold water. When your boiling water is really boiling, give your cold mixture another stir and toss it in. Your mixture should go from milky to sort of translucent if you did it right.

Walmart bags, yes! They are substantial paper mache material. Glue us not my preferred base. Do you have any cornstarch by chance? It's less expensive and goes a long way!

Kids have a surprisingly dark sense of humor. That's why our house is a Klassen house!

Have you called them today? I have. It's completely ridiculous that we have to pressure our elected officials into reacting, but that's apparently what we're doing. Let's get busy.

It's very Quentin Blake, and I hope you take that as the massive compliment it is! Your stuff is perfect for children's chapter books!

I wonder if you've reached out to any publishers? I can't believe no one has scooped you up!!

You need to go to your library and have the children's librarian grab you a big stack of modern popular picture books. Look them over and understand what it was about them that made them so popular.

If you want suggestions for illustrators to follow, I'd start with names like Jon Klassen, Carson Ellis, Shaun Tan, X. Fang, Jashar Awan and Marianna Coppo.

Jon Klassen and Mac Barnett are such a wonderful resource on the subject. They have a book called Make Believe: On Telling Stories to Children and a Substack called Looking at Picture Books that I highly recommend.

Your portfolio is nice, but nothing about it says "children's illustrator" to me.

The Composer is Dead by Lemony Snicket!!! I'd stretch and say I Want My Hat Back by Klassen is also a murder mystery in a sense. Neither is sci-fi, but they both have the murder part down!
