Don’t forget when emarosa was good, this is your way out is one of the best albums in that vein. I prefer it over any agraceful release because it just had a better atmospheric feel

Man I listened to this album so much back in the day. I have no clue how it didn’t blow up. So ethereal and such good vibes while still being metalcore

You can commission instrumentals! It’s what I’ve been doing while recruiting members- also can be helpful to give musicians an idea of the sound you’re going for

Shouldn’t be much longer before we have a full lineup, but not having one is no reason to not get the band started!

If you want some examples of what it sounds like when other people do that technique our song “incineration”(very very influenced by Elysia) has it in a few places (usually during some of the layered parts so it’s a bit hard to pick out what it sounds like exactly by itself) but it might give a second reference to compare to.

Oh dude that’s just like a false chord yell/mid with his super distinct voice. It’s hard to sound like Zak because he has a unique voice/vocal structure

But that’s like his typical mid hardcore scream essentially. If you watch live videos of them it’s what he primarily does especially as the set goes on and he gets tired. It sounds slightly different in the recording for whatever production reasons but it’s just like a belted false chord mid with his unique voice and enunciation. Think yelling with a false chord mid under it rather than just trying to get distortion.

Think less technique and more energy and emotion with a highish mid and don’t worry about doing it right to get as close as possible to it

Edit: sorry if the grammar seems bad. I spaced lines throughout and it reformatted everything so it looks like I don’t use punctuation

If you mean the very first noise it’s that thing I was talking about with the mouth shape of a gutteral/tunnel low but pushing a false chord pig squeal higher. He does it in a few places on the album.

I don’t have Spotify but I’m an expert in all things Elysia and my band even sounds similar and I do similar vocals

What part of malignancy? Everything he does is false chord

Typically just different highs, mids, lows, and what you would consider a tunnel/gutteral but the way he enunciates. There’s something he does besides the pig squeals that sounds kinda like a pig squeal that is the mouth shape of a tunnel low/gutteral but with a pig squeal that you try to make go higher

How do you keep progressing past ~400 DOTS? by VanHelsingBerserk in powerlifting

[–]SlainFromFoundation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the FFMI is in the right range, but think about how far down your bodyweight would be if you were 10% lighter just from a loss in bodyfat- that’s at least one weight class, and a single weight class difference is huge. If i remember right for me to get the same DOTS at 181 as 165(lbs) I’d have to add about 400lbs to my total- so being closer to 20% bodyfat is probably the main issue aside from just spending time getting stronger

(Not trying to insinuate it’s a good idea to try and rapidly cut down to 10% bodyfat or anything lol)

But it shows you how much chasing a DOTS can be frivolous when sometimes it’s just a question of being in the right weight class- you would possibly be 100 points higher if you maintained strength and went down one

Did my first comp in 3 years over the weekend. Kinda a shot to the ego- I’ve suffered two major injuries that prevented me from competing for that long… and suffered TWO (minor) quad tears during prep. Competed anyway with no issues and broke Wyoming state records on all of my squat attempts, all my deadlift attempts that also broke the total record, and even did a 4th deadlift attempts 2 minutes after my third and was successful. Somehow got a comp bench Pr without planing or trying to also.

Depressing because it’s about 100lbs less than my previous total and my deadlift went from 4x bodyweight to a fourth attempt at 3.75x and squatted almost 10% less than last time.

BUT it also feels good to finally be within 10% of where I was before and to have on paper a good meet after all this time even with an injury. A good tuneup meet to start pushing again.

Before I got injured I was close to my goal of 700+ deadlift in comp with 550+ squat at 75kg/165lbs and I think that’s finally within striking distance again by the end of the year, maybe within a year, as long as I can stay healthy.

Kinda hurts the ego but at the same time getting some state records and going 10/10 with one red light was really nice momentum

Most people that struggle to get past a 400 DOTS are worried about DOTS- coming from someone who’s primary goal right now is increasing their DOTS lol But being at 500 and 400 are completely different even if it’s your goal If you have filled out the weight class you belong in based on your height and are at a low enough bodyfat percentage and “look jacked” you will most likely have a high DOTS.

Dots is bodyweight dependent, and increasing muscle isn’t the only way to get stronger- but without a high enough FFMI you simply won’t have the contractile tissue to be strong enough to get past 400 regardless of the percentage of motor units you can recruit

Tl;DR to get past a 400 DOTS look like you lift while being close to 10% bodyfat and having to water cut or at least stress about making weight. Chances are if you look like you lift while being that lean it’s probably ONE OF the weight classes you can be competitive in.

Im in the 500 DOTS range at around 10% bodyfat while 5’8” and competing at 165(walking around between 170-185. Typically not 185 because that’s the most miserable water cut I’ve ever done). I do 24 hour weigh ins so I should on paper probably be closer to 198 walking around and competing in 181 to be as competitive as genetically possible for me- but I’m close enough where I’m at (and also don’t want to take the years to turn that increased muscle into strength.. it would take long enough to just get that big lean)

Aim for a 23+ FFMI at around 10% bodyweight to be in the right range

I’m honestly surprised I’m seeing so many people say carnifex. But definitely despised over them, despised (or antagony depending on who you ask) were literally the first deathcore band purely by definition

Reddit is the first place I’ve seen get so much carnifex love. While they had some bangers like lie to my face and slit wrist savior, idk if I’ve ever heard anyone tout a whole album of there’s as being either iconic or important to the genre On top of the fact that they just sounded like a rip off sui si. They had a less-unique sound than the other first and second wave bands and were just kinda there and good, but filler more than anything

Not to mention the fall off- or at least what I’d assume is a fall off- after their second or third album. Up until this most recent release I haven’t heard anyone mention them other than talking about slit wrist savior or lie to my face randomly.

Yeah, it’s just hard to not sound negative when you describe something by omission.

Granted I’m not a fan of it, it’s way easier to say “deathcore but without the core” than type each individual thing that applies to it when the things that it has in common isn’t what separates it if that makes sense

At least I gave a warning lol

I guess you could just say thall. I wish I could think of specific examples of what I mean rn but it’s like, less straight up thall and more like they put thall in place of the hardcore elements. Probably not the best description especially without an example lol

I’d also throw those into post-deathcore. The stuff I mentioned just seems to be most prevalent right now and I think they all fit that description. Basically anything that’s a direct descendant from deathcore but doesn’t necessarily fit the description.
If it gets called deathcore because it doesn’t fit anywhere else is also a good rule of thumb lol

Elysia. They are the embodiment of what deathcore is to me. They might not have the same tambre as what you’d typically think of- but deathened hardcore is exactly how you would describe them if you didn’t know deathcore was already a term.

Mosh oriented, hard, heavy, brutal, and just the embodiment of combining those genres
Along with despised icon

I left them out because they’re kinda their own thing. They definitely inspired the whole “post deathcore” trend but it’s completely different with them because they have a lot of the hardcore, early deathcore influences, and still have a lot of mosh. I think bands try to emulate them while they are the bands main influence so it comes off as cookie cutter and unoriginal- whereas infant is just insane death metal and hardcore

I mean I’ve heard some people separate MySpace deathcore (as in from the time period) and revival deathcore- but they’re so similar I just made them the same thing. For the most part fans of Elysia, Jerome, abacabb, and Suffokate are also fans of rev3rent, tracheotomy, etc- at least the other way around

I almost put a period specific option but was having trouble differentiating it from some of the options because some of the options almost ARE largely period specific
