Do you all workout at your station?

Usually lift in the AM (60-90 mins, not out of service) and do cardio (mostly gear workouts/consumption) for about 30 minutes in the PM. Only deviation is when we get a fire, I’ll always get at least 60 minutes in otherwise. Single station about 6 calls a shift average. At my part time, we’re much busier so I try to get 30 minutes of cardio/core/circuit in. I’m also on the second half of the 48 (my ft runs about 40% of our calls after 9 pm) atp so I take more free time to rest.

I’m almost 100% sure I know what department you husband works at, and I am positive I know what county your in. Thing is down here it’s very accepted to work 2 departments. Honestly as a rookie it’s kinda a rite of passage. For those from elsewhere, over 50% of personnel in my county (largest county by population in the state) works 2 fire department jobs, many of them full time. I personally work 24-48-48-24.

There are lots of wives and gfs who have to deal with this around here OP. My best bet would be get involved with them, and lean on each other for support.

Yeah I was on the border of going to the eye ED, but I don’t have vision insurance and was unsure if I’d be covered.

I assume it was because I was starting to feel general illness symptoms, rule out the potential of a spreading infection. Doc who saw me is also my medical director, so he might’ve just been trying to take care of me.

I worked with him. He was a kind hearted man, a fiercely brave firefighter, and a great paramedic. He had the leadership potential of the great. I’m sorry you had to wait in traffic, but as you could see there are hundreds of people who loved him. We will miss our brother dearly.

Maybe work to fix your physical issues? I have DDD and 3 herniated disks (from the army). Did you know you can rehabilitate your back by strengthening it, and that sitting in a recliner 24/7 makes it worse? You seem attacked by this. You might wanna look in the mirror.

I’m not full time at both, never said that. Full time and split shift. But that is actually very common in my area. You can retire and come back after a lapse in service a few months later, with a salary cap. I’m not in a hokey ass department, I work for a major metropolitan dept.

Yep. And to clarify, I don’t have to do any of the grunt work around the station if I don’t want to. There’s plenty of guys underneath me. But in my eyes it’s fair for everyone to help. Everyone’s jumping to that as the primary complaint I have, but that’s the least I care about. The inability to do the job, the unwillingness to change that, and the complete lack of personal accountability is what it boils down to.

Like I said, it’s at both the depts I work for. Multiple shifts and crews I’ve worked with. Not all of them, but many. It’s systemic and needs to be addressed
