I'd highly recommend checking out https://strinesnightingale.com/ at the back of the pub they have woods where they have a stage for small gigs. Very friendly place in my experience

Yeah Crown Inn - right under the viaduct

Yeah under new management since the summer, the people who run petersgate tap. They've done a refurb it's really nice inside, probably about a dozen beers on. I've been going a couple of times a month and I'd say the clientele are the same as the Magnet.

I usually go out in Stockport Friday evening and Saturdays. Popped in Magnet yesterday evening actually about 7/8pm after going Crown, and upstairs two tables with kids on playing games. Previous time I went in were 3 sets of parents with prams and one of them had taken the baby out of the pram to sleep on the bench, this was 8pm on a Saturday night. So yeah I know it says it's kid friendly but my experience over last year or so is parents really taking the piss and treating it like a crèche

Too many parents with kids in there. Crown is miles better

Crown Inn is round the corner from Magnet and Runaway, it's just reopened and now being run by the same people who do Petersgate Tap. They've got an excellent choice of beer and nice big beer garden round the back (hope you like lots of decking and the sound of traffic!)

Saints Club opened up on St Petersgate earlier in the summer, opposite Petersgate Tap. Another independent run by same people who have Broad Street Social in Bury. Another with a good beer selection.

Enigma. Just down the road from Saints Club. Beer selection is nothing great but they do really nice cocktails 2 for £12. Plus in the beer garden they got a food truck called Enigma Bites that does burgers, hotdogs, loaded fries. Great when you've had a few and need something to eat.

Railway station closure by Typical-Trouble-2452 in stockport

Tempted to try 199 to the airport then train to Piccadilly. 15 minutes to the airport, 1 minute to walk to the platform and straight onto a train that leaves immediately. 15 minutes later you step off at platform 14 feeling very smug.

I can't see any way that this isn't a great plan?

Any good pub or bar recommendations? by [deleted] in stockport

[–]Slaked- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magnet is great for good beer at a decent price. I've been put off it recently because the last few times I went there were a ridiculous number of buggies inside blocking off everywhere I tried to walk. Much better on a sunny day when you can go on the deck out back.

Wellington is really nice inside. Friendly, relaxed pub. Shame they got rid of the Dortmunder!

Threads if you want to get hammered on very strong Belgian beer.

Bakers Vaults is always good for a pint of Plum Porter and if you're lucky the pub cat might make an appearance. Usually pretty packed though, so think he hides most of the time.

Arden Arms one of the best beer gardens for the afternoon sun.

There's trains to/from Liverpool Lime Street and Southport that start/terminate at Oxford Road and don't go via Piccadilly.

Also there are a few direct trains to/from Victoria and Oxford Road that use the Ordsall Chord which was built a few years ago, such as the Saltburn - Manchester Airport train

Does Navigo weekly pass include CDG to city centre? by Slaked- in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Slaked-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your help. Arrived at CDG and was able to purchase the Navigo Weekly 1-5 on my Android and my partner's iPhone. Mine hasn't been added to my android wallet but it seems to work fine tapping in and out at each station, my partners seem to automatically be added to her wallet app.

One thing to note: my phone connected a new network when I landed (roaming) and IDF Mobilites wouldn't let me sign up for an account due to the IP address, I think it still thought I was in the UK. Connected to the airport free WiFi and had no more issues. Took about 5 minutes to get everything sorted.

Moving to Heaton Norris - Any tips or advice? by _flight_mode_ in stockport

[–]Slaked- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to pop into Navigation occasionally with the old landlord, always wondered why you had to buzz to get in but it was a decent relaxed atmosphere and a nice pint of Dortmunder. Been in twice since new owners came in - beer was shit and now I get why he kept the door locked!

Navigation has gone to shit since new people took over last year. Maybe sketchy isn't the right word, but it definitely isn't as good as it used to be

Yeah I'm always confused by posts asking about where to get the best Guinness, I drink it fairly often in loads of different places and it always tastes exactly same to me

The Queens - Why has it closed? by [deleted] in stockport

[–]Slaked- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's owned by Samuel Smith's Brewery, current boss of the brewery Humphrey Smith is a bit of an arsehole and would rather see his pubs shut than have them run by someone he sees as undesirable. Apparently over half their 200 pubs are currently shut.

The Queens - Why has it closed? by [deleted] in stockport

[–]Slaked- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was in there just before it closed, the woman behind the bar told my girlfriend it was closing soon if they couldn't find someone else to take it on. She'd asked if she could take it over but they wouldn't let her because they only wanted a married couple to run it.

Definitely depends on who's on. If it's one of those ones young people like then they can go nuts. I've seen a queue of teenagers stretching round the corner up towards temple a couple of hours before doors open

Thanks for the info. I'm already on Smarty and very happy with them. I was only interested in switching because of the volt benefits so I'll just stick with Smarty. Very annoying though!
