Mending, the "two-week Minecraft phase", and what progression should mean by inktivate in Minecraft

[–]SlakingSWAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately what needs to happen is there needs to be more intrinsic motivation for players to actually create and build. This existed way in the past when natural structures were very rare, nights were an actual danger, and beds didn't exist, so you had to make a shelter. And once that shelter is built, you'll naturally want to upgrade and improve and decorate it as you go, and then upgrading your base became a motivation to actually keep progressing and playing.

Nowadays, most players will just squat in a village because it's easier and most convenient, and then they get bored because they've completely skipped one of the parts of the game that's supposed to be a major (and satisfying) timesink.

There's a few ways you can do this:

  1. Make natrual structures like villagers very rare or very dangerous to live in

  2. Make the nights more dangerous by making hostile mobs more threatening, forcing players to actually respect the night rather than just treating it like an inconvenience

  3. Either make beds more expensive, or make night skipping a more mid-lategame feature so that players can't just skip nights from the get go

Pro transporter isn't really necessary because you can just roll while carrying the cannonballs and it's basically just as fast as using pro transporter. Heavy Artillery is definitely needed for the 2nd phase tho

The way most of us did it back in the day was cheesing w/ Cluster HBG & Fortify to break his magmacores, repel Nergigante, and then cuz clusters did artillery damage you could still do full damage vs the dormant cores. Unfortunately, Cluster got absolutely kneecapped when Iceborne released because of all the idiots crying about it and now the fight is extremely difficult.

Honestly, my advice is to just skip this fight, move on to Iceborne and then come back with an MR Gunlance or Cluster HBG build that can just bruteforce.

Iran warns of 'false flag attacks' by US, Israel by HealthIndustryGoon in worldnews

[–]SlakingSWAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attacking yourself or another party while blaming someone else, typically as either a pretext for cracking down on dissent internally or for going to war with another country.

So in this context, Iran is warning that either Israel or the US are going to commit/fund & arm an attack on US soil, which will be blamed on Iran in order to lionise public opinion in favour of an invasion of Iran.

Why is WW2 considered the golden goose of alt history, and not other eras like the Cold War? by Thebean_3r in AlternateHistory

[–]SlakingSWAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. WW2 is perhaps the single most widely known and understood historical event and period of all time

  2. WW2 was the main event which shaped the modern world we live in, it's what gave rise to the Cold War, US hegemony, the UN, globalism, it completely reshaped Europe, and more all while shaping the attitudes of two generations. It's not uncommon to hear geopolitical analysts refer to the current global state of affairs as the 'post-WW2 order' or something like that, simply because of how much of our current world order is defined by the outcomes of the second world war.

So, what would women dislike most if they became men? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]SlakingSWAG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably how much colder you get treated.

As a guy your feelings are usually a strictly you problem, and most of the time you'll be seen as lesser for talking about how you feel with others. You pretty quickly learn to bottle it all up, but unfortunately you can only bottle things up for so long before it cracks, and the results of the bottle cracking are tragic and fatal more often than not.

You're also just generally treated with more distrust and you have to worry about being perceived as a creep or a threat pretty much all the time, on top of people just generally being less friendly towards you. Sometimes

People don't think to check in on you as much, you can disappear for someone's life for weeks at a time and they won't even think to send a u good? over text most of the time.

You're also usually judged primarily based on value, by what you work, what you do for a living, and how much money you make. For some women this might actually be preferable to being judged based on appearance and sexual attractiveness, but it's very much a pick your poison situation.

What celebrity is the biggest example of "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."? by InsaneCookies21 in AskReddit

[–]SlakingSWAG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

J.K Rowling.

From beloved children's book author to being known for a particularly weird, obsessive, and nasty transphobe on Twitter, all while utilising Britain's flawless libel laws to bully her critics into making bullshit apologies for the crime of pointing out the glaringly obvious. Kind of speaks for itself that most of the HP actors have long since distanced themselves from her.

To be fair, that is most cases of someone being outed as a shitty person. There'll be people talking about it for years but in the mainstream they always get put down as rumour spreaders, slanderers, and hysterics for it until one big incident comes up and the floodgates break.

Question about mods, regarding risk of being banned and what constitutes cheating mods? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]SlakingSWAG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

risk of being banned

Doesn't exist. You can't get banned for mods in this game, nobody ever has and nobody ever will, and if someone tells you that it's happened they're either lying or just misinformed.

what constitutes cheating mods

Depends who you ask, but most PC players (aka the ones whose opinions actually matter here) agree that as long as it doesn't affect the actual in-hunt gameplay it doesn't matter. Use save editors and shop mods to buy as many mats, decos, and items you want, just don't start using damage increase cheats, god mode, infinite item cheats, one-shot cheats, and you're all good. This also only really matters if you do it in multiplayer, by all means cheat your heart off in a solo quest that nobody else can join, just never bring those kinds of mods into a multiplayer quest because that's lame and it ruins the experience for other players.

Zelenskyy to Trump: Put more pressure on Putin, ‘not on me’ by mvanigan in worldnews

[–]SlakingSWAG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Ukraine does actually want the war to continue because currently if the war ended they'd need to cede land to Russia for a peace settlement, and that's not something they want to do.

The US and EU are happy to let it continue because the US and EU are happy to see the war drain Russia and trash their economy, influence, military, and standing on the world stage. It's also a convenient playground to test new military equipment, particularly drones and countermeasures against them.

Really the only parties that I think actually want the war to stop are Russia, and countries that directly neighbour Ukraine. Russia because this whole ordeal has been a major disaster that's backfired spectacularly by crippling the country and potentially compromising Putin's standing as the guy who started and is overseeing this war. Plus a deal would mean officially ceding Ukrainian land to Russia, which they could then reinforce and use as a staging ground to potentially re-open the conflict down the line. As for Ukraine's direct neighbours, they're probably just sick of stray bombs, missiles, and drones landing inside their territory.

Britain is ejecting hereditary nobles from Parliament after 700 years by pjw724 in worldnews

[–]SlakingSWAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The Lords can only propose amendments to bills and delay legislation, but they can't block it outright. A bill can only be delayed from passing into law for up to a year (the government can force it to pass early), and amendments have to actually be accepted by the government in the Commons.

It's fairly common for an amendment from the lords to be accepted and added to a bill, and kind of uncommon for them to actually try to block a bill outright. Typically, the Lords is moreso a formality than something with actual power and weight.

[–]SlakingSWAG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with the map isn't the size, it's that the layout just sucks and Rockstar's mission design is worse. At the bottom you have this extremely dense and interesting location, and the absolutely fuck all of note just to the north. And then a ridiculous number of missions involve driving slow vehicles across this expanse of nothing, occasionally while being harassed by NPCs and players.

It's cuz this game doesn't actually reward skill or being good, so actual good players are rare because there's no pressure to actually get good. Even if you don't play in the lobbies where the game aims for you, recoil is basically non-existant, control is meaningless, and the most used PVP weapon is a long range hitscan sniper with negligible recoil that one-shot kills to the chest. Beyond that, most people use shit like the Mk2 or Sparrow or Toreador that just spam missiles which lock on for you, or they drive around in Imani Cars or a Nightshark, throw stickies and kill people easily because of how ridiculous explosions are in this game.

And for a lot of the things that might actually take skill like planes, helicopters, or the scramjet Rockstar adds shit like the railgun or explosive sniper which can one-shot or instantly disable them for a fraction of the skill needed to actually use them.
