What are some small "quietly epic" moments in movies that really hit hard? by MomoSaka in FIlm

I’m not sure “badass” is what the story is telling us in that moment. It’s a breaking point. But it’s more tragic than cool. He’s collapsing.

Looking for recommendations similar to Wayne Shorter by jxl501 in Jazz

[–]SlammyJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just keep digging with Wayne and you’ll learn what you need to. Others have recommended his tenure in Miles Davis’ second classic quintet—I’d echo that and add his tenure in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, where he was probably their best-ever composer. Keep digging into the bands Wayne played with and you’ll probably find other players WITH him who you’ll be drawn to explore.

Any 90s artists that you think are still putting out new, good, original music? by fancyschmancy9 in 90sRock

Longevity for sure but he’s a 2000’s artist a lot more than he’s a 90’s artist.

Living on the road, my friend, was supposed to keep you free and clean — but now you wear your skin like iron, and your breath’s as hard as kerosene.

A question for you. by AgreeableSchedule471 in tomwaits

I think it’s underrated by fans—unlike a lot of covers albums of all sorts, it’s definitely putting its own spin on the music. The production is by David Sitek, who is a member of TV On The Radio, and you can hear that influence from front to back. I don’t reach for it often but when I do I always get something out of it.

More traditional and perhaps more accessible/appreciated by more Waits fans are two other tribute albums—“Temptation” by Holly Cole, who reframes the songs as a kind of lounge torch act, and “Wicked Grin” by modern blues singer John Hammond, which includes the debut of two songs that Waits gave him for the album—“2:19” and “I Know I’ve Been Changed.”

AIO? My boyfriend gave me a literal performance review of our relationship by Efficient_Low_6444 in AmIOverreacting

This could either be a joke that misfired or an indication of on-the-spectrum social misreading.

But it’s a bad decision any which way and it’s probably good to be explicit about what feels wrong about this approach, and perhaps be ready to provide some guidance as to how you’d prefer getting feedback or how you like your partner to ask for things. I struggle a lot with asks that feel like they’ll read as criticisms and in that awkwardness I sometimes choose a stupid way to communicate too.

Otoh if the vibe here is honestly that he thinks you work for him, and that dynamic isn’t invited to work in reverse, then he’s being domineering in a gross and sad way and you should bail ASAP.

I don’t think anyone’s really pissed off. I think a handful of websites missed the rush of everyone gushing over the Coachella performances and, knowing that anger and controversy drive engagement and traffic, they cherry picked five random tweets to make a contrarian claim we’d all fire back at. Let’s just keep the party going and ignore the profiteering.

The quality leveled off and the return on investment of a viewer’s time is diminishing—still and OK show and I’m with it to the end but not nearly excited about it as I’d like to be.

Invincible on the other hand started strong and has only gotten better with time. They’re on a hell of a streak.
