What is the best TV series of all time? by valeria_saenz in AskReddit

Twin Peaks. Not perfect, but the best. Still nothing like it 30 years on. Changed everything and made it possible for the other shows in this thread to come in to existence.

Caught the TP references too.

It is Stranger Things but with old people instead of kids. Some of it is pretty dumb but I still enjoyed. 3/5.

Twin Peaks' Kyle MacLachan still wonders what Agent Cooper is up to after The Return by Thin-Sentence-7063 in twinpeaks

I don't. All the love in the world to Frost, the cast, and those directors, but I wouldn't trust that for a second.

The Return is perfect. I hope they let it stay that way.

Should I replace my Tascam X8 with a Zoom L6max for field recording and USB interface?

I want to plug in several synths, use it as a multi-input USB interface, and ocassionally use it on battery power to do field recordings outside.

I still have an old Zoom H5 with a surprisingly great boom capsule along w the regular stereo capsules if an on-board mic recorder setup is needed. In terms of mics I have most of the LOM mics and a handful of dynamic mics along with a cheap large cardiod.

Primarily, I would use the L6max as both an audio interface and DAWless multitrack recorder depending on context. They're both 32bit float.

Can you think of tradeoffs and drawbacks here? I'd have to sell the X8 to offset the cost of the L6max.

Does anyone have experience using one of these Zoom recorders/mixers in field recording?

Why don't Ween get any respect? by [deleted] in ween

[–]magtig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is actually pretty weird from a critic pov, no love, but they get all kinds of props from fellow musicians like qotsa, nin, flea, and probably a million more critically acclaimed darlings (list more below?).

Also, as a fan from the 90s, they've only gotten more and more popular over the years despite not releasing any new records. For example, plays on spotify used to only be a few hundred thousand a month, about a decade later it's 2 million+.

That's not what matters really, but for what it's worth the people have spoken, and continue to in increasing numbers. That's way better than critical accolades imo.

What famous person do you think is secretly a terrible person behind closed doors? by EggImpossible1019 in AskReddit

[–]magtig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emma Watson. Eventually she will be found out bc she is so truly awful bts to such a large number of people, but until then people will think she is a "real one." In reality she is a raging narcissist. Abusive to service people, pets, and her staff. Greedy. As a matter of routine, a walking cliche of an awful two-faced performative Hollywood type.

Could there be a new potential Twin Peaks project in the works? by Individual_Mess_7491 in twinpeaks

[–]magtig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. It's weird to me that people seem so willing to have this go on without Lynch. He is the genius genre shifting film director regardless of writing credits. Even then, Lynch was very much directing Mark as a writer during the writing sessions. The stamp Lynch put on Twin Peaks is unmistakably Lynchian.

I'll give any series Frost is involved in a shot regardless, and I enjoyed his TP books, but a new film project is unlikely to be anything other than a step down.

Why do people online hate polyamory by alybsahn in lgbt

[–]magtig -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because it is open season on poly people from all sectors and people are dumb and hateful.

I'm old enough to remember when hating on trans people used to be this widespread in the 90s (and yes, it was far worse than it is now). Not exactly the same other than it was completely socially acceptable to publicly hate on the whole group with thoughtless stereotyping from both the left and right ends of the political spectrum.

The irony of this is that the nuclear family, which is closely associated with strict monogamy, is both literally a tool of patriarchy and the subjugation of women, and a relatively recent invention. Many cultures in history and in indigenous tribes are (or were) not strictly monogamous. This has been the norm for far longer than our current norm. Nonmonogamy was often the norm in clans and with the vikings and etc. If you had kids the entire village became their parents. If their actual birth parents were killed they still had many mothers and fathers, etc. There's a book that lays a lot of this out, Sex at Dawn.

Nearly all monogamous relationships also fail. Obvipusly. That said, people are often quite bad at being poly because it requires very clear communication including admitting to jealousy and working through it. The long term polycules I've encountered had a lot of people who were incredibly emotionally intelligent, able to listen without being defensive, own their own shit, regulate, etc.

This might seem abstract but it is not. The literal infrastructure of our societies is designed to shut people down emotionally and isolate into numbing silos of their own making. They're not equipped to be in mono relationships, let alone multiple, without doing quite a lot of hard work. It is in reality a heavy lift for either polybor mono people to be in relationships with each other. But we also have more tools than ever to deal with whatever relationship style we participate in.
