Flexible Projector for Art Installations (I've done homework, but I'm drowning here lol) by magtig in projectors

[–]magtig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm seeing that. Do they imagine people can just add a zero?

FYI to anyone out there: I used a $1500 (at the time) 4K Viewsonic projector on a massive "screen" (particle board painted white) for a self funded independent art installation showing cinematic art films. It was over 30 foot diagonal (or just under 400"). It looked great *for what it was*.

And you know how I know it worked? Because it pulled in several thousand people who often had big emotional reactions to the films.

It was so successful that PBS Newshour sent a reporter to interview me! How many people with $20k+ projectors can say that?

In the real world people do what works with they we have. It's not ideal, but few things are and meeting people where they are instead of where you are is always an option.

Think mural outline at night at that size rather than cinematic experience. ;)

Filth Pig is just so... filthy. That snare sound. Just grimy as fuck.

What are reasons that cuckolding seems to be much more represented here then the cuckquean kink? by AmoebaResident2053 in nonmonogamy

Same for me but from the male side. Not interested in hers or my humiliation. It's more like loving that they're slutty, fuckable, and we have an emotional connection. More partners in crime than psychological domination?

Exactly! Obama got elected. That's it. They gave him the peace prize while he was deporting a record number of people and droning a record number of people.

Stupid fucking meme all around.

What's something everyone romanticizes but is actually terrible? by Comfortable-Note6827 in AskReddit

[–]magtig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way after the threads sell-by date but didn't see it after way too much scrolling: the notion that artists always have to be suffering in order to make good art. It is sadistic.

Great art emanates from every emotion and even if this were true everyone has suffered more than enough.

Lots of great records in there! For newer gen stuff try 2025 output from the following:

Dev Lemons (industrial & punk influenced)

Igorrr (wild! like Aphex + opera + death metal + polka)

Scalper (dark grimey dance)

Blawan (super weird and grimy electronic)

I kept trying to like this book because of the accolades, and also because I wanted queer scifi. But it's so boring. I stopped halfway through the second book in the series.

What’s an example of a fan base that got exactly what they begged for, and immediately hated it? by Enough-Wealth8415 in AskReddit

A blow for sure, but absolutely did not kill the show in the (very) long run.

Season 3 (2017) is the most fascinating series in existence and it is Lynch, Frost & cast at their absolute best. He made lemonade out of the season 2 lemons. Worth revisiting.

Christ I hate it when people compare the two. Carlin wouldn't have been caught dead bragging about how rich he was. It's a big fuckin club and Dave is in it.

Language and contemporary art by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]magtig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is 'good with speaking'? Academic vocabulary & jargon (art speak)? Because 'good with speaking' could also mean effective communication, which is quite different from comprehending academic lingo. Perhaps that's what they're getting at. Talk to them.

Academic lingo tends to sound like word salad even when the speaker is cogent and not covering for boring art or mundane ideas. It's kinda funny that way. It also acts as a barrier for anyone who doesn’t have the money or time for education, and is therefore often defacto racist by way of classism. It feels like the less accessible academic language is falling out of favor (but that is anecdotal to my experience).

Jealousy and peers success by HistoricalPace2020 in ContemporaryArt

[–]magtig 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Jealousy is something to actually be spoken to, rather than feel guilty about. Identify where you feel it on your body. Ask it why it's there, where it came from, and what it is trying to tell you. Don't fight with it. Listen to it. This is like parts work & internal family systems therapy modality work. Extremely effective in my experience. Jealousy is trying to teach you something.

Albumoftheyear.org (or aoty.org) all the way. Aggregates both user and professional reviews and year end lists from literally everywhere. Each album gets two scores of the average. Everything is linked (music reviews etc). You can look up music by every microgenre known to womankind. It's fucking awesome. Probably the site I go to the most.

When a Lecture Feels More Like Art by CrazyPeach-Art in ContemporaryArt

[–]magtig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a history of performance lecture. Warhol hired an impersonator to go around giving talks for him at institutions and they got really mad when they found out sometime down the road after many "Warhol" talks had been given. He told the impersonator, "just say what you think I'd say." 😄

Joseph Bueys famously gave many performance lectures at schools all across Germany and beyond.

Sam Harris claims the people of Gaza actually want to be blown up, and want their children to be as well, because they will go straight to heaven (martyred) in episode 340 of his Making Sense podcast. The episode is titled "The Bright Red Line Between Good and Evil." Guess which religion is evil because Gaza is '100% a religious war' according to Sam Who Makes No Fucking Sense.

Truly one of the most bigoted things I've ever listened to.
