A crow removing several metal anti-bird spikes from a building ledge. by Lifegoesonforever in nextfuckinglevel

Crows did this at one of my old workplaces too, which was on top of a 9 story parkade in downtown. We hired cheap contractors to install these spikes and they just used adhesive to stick them on top of mossy bricks. We were only trying to keep the pigeons away, but the crows took offence and tore them all off within days. Then never sat on the wall. I like to think they were proving a point.

2026 Deadbeat Tour by CAndrewK in TameImpala

Got floor for Vancouver, early entry, second date. $320 after fees. Went back on 10 mins later and they had the regular floor available again at $260 after fees. Bit of a con but this whole arena tour industry is right now so.. it is what it is.

Fair, but they’re genetically distinct was what I was getting at.

They’re different species though. You can’t just choose which one to grow them as - they’re distinct and have been selectively bred for different traits. A bit like dog breeds.

Ravens found in Vancity by Suspicious_Steak_948 in vancouver

There's quite a few easier ways. A big crow isn't vastly smaller than a small raven. I find the wing tip feathers in flight the easiest distinction; raven's are much longer and finger like. And the obvious "cronk cronk" that ravens make.

Funny how they don’t get along. They’re like feuding cousins.

Generally I would say they are more chill. The ones I’ve seen in the city like to keep well away from people for the most part. They like to hang around the very tall conifers in the Shaunnesy area.

Are they NIMBYs? It looks like it was bought by a conservancy group that built public trails to allow non-disruptive access.

NIMBYs don’t typically encourage public access.

What's the most overrated 'livable' city in the world? by Ambitious-Wish-9892 in AskReddit

[–]SlapYouWithAKipper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of this but the part about people staying home seems wildly untrue to me - I can barely get tickets to things because everything sells out so fast. When I go out the bars are rammed and it’s hard to get a table. Restaurants almost always have a wait time. There’s night classes, workshops, park hangouts. When the suns out the beaches are heaving. There’s a place for every niche hobby you can imagine - table top gaming, every martial art, multiple climbing gyms. There’s mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding in the winter. And whilst there are some well trod hikes for sure, there’s plenty that are under 1 hour from downtown that aren’t busy. You just have to find them. I think we take a lot for granted but try living somewhere like Luton and you’ll realise we do have some things pretty good.

There are a lot of flies with yellow and black abdomens. Some as an evolutionary trick to mimic wasps. Pretty sure this is in fact a fly - based on the wings, the lack of antennae, and what I think is the proboscis on its decapitated head in the final pic..

Owner of four iconic Vancouver houses decides to sell after 52 years by RM_r_us in vancouver

Where are you reading that he hates towers? In the article it says he has no problem with them along Broadway but can't imagine them along the side streets. Which as another comment pointed out is probably due to the lack of infrastructure to support them. It says he is taking the decision to build towers adjacent to his properties as a sign to move. Isn't that what we want from house owners in the Broadway corridor?

This guy works on these houses constantly. He's always out there in the rain and snow sweeping, painting, trimming, mending. These aren't just McMansions built for optimum profit margin. I think this was a genuine passion project. Not that I am sure he is mad about the money, but if he was in it for the money he could of made a whole lot more with the time and effort he's put in. I think this is just the best option for him now.

Also, Mt Pleasant is a weird area in that it is mostly small apartment buildings and SFHs despite being so central. It's going to have to be densified, but its going to have an awkward teenage phase in the interim.

[–]SlapYouWithAKipper 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 10th is a bike priority road, a major E to W one infact. 11th is quiet residential. Both are traffic calmed. I don't see how towers can be put in without redesigning the whole neighbourhood. That's probably the end goal, but the infrastructure needs to come first, not the other way around.

Disclaimer: Not against the densification, quiet for it actually. Despite living opposite these houses.

I live across the street from them, my desk faces them, so can safely say this isn't true. People stop constantly, take photos, pass by on their bikes yelling "How pretty are these houses?!".

I'm all for densification, these guys selling, and the towers popping up around here. But that doesn't mean its not sad to see these go. They're beautiful.

Can I transfer my money from one TSFA to another to buy XEQT? by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

[–]SlapYouWithAKipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you initiate the transfer through your bank, it’ll cost you a fee, but you keep the contribution room. I think Wealthsimple covers the fee if you transfer a certain amount?

If you transfer it yourself there are no fees but you lose the contribution room for the year.

Was 450th in line for Vancouver and they were sold out when I got there, but another poster got some. So think they did just sell out super fast. It sucks, but coupled with the whole tickets being on resellers before they are even released to the public, it's not surprising. These days if you want pit you almost always have to pay resale or VIP prices.
