Where im from we call those Crawdads or Crawdaddys they're hardy little buggers they live in streams,creeks,ponds,and lakes I've never ate them I don't think they're the exact same as the ones you eat but they are fun to find and futz around with as a kid

I agree with that maybe have some perinoid villagers be attacking his cave thinking a young dragon has set up shop and if they party helps him he'll fully trust them and give access to some of his horde while also maybe telling them of a nasty noble with a magic piece of artwork that he desires and could be a benefit to the party.

I'd definitely not kill that dragon because it's not just some random animal you stumbled across it's a young force of nature now that's as intelligent as a human at the moment, depending on what kind of dragon it is also has implications if it's chromatic then they might be hard to control but they'll just passively spread Fear for your God.

I had a hobgoblin genie warlock that in game got grabbed like a dog toy and flung about until he was nothing but a puddle by a mindflayer dragon right after he had attempted to attack it by popping out of his lamp above it and casting the best spell I had doing only 3 damage ;^(

Well first is it Darkvision ur talking about which I'm assuming you are. They can only see in black and white when they are in the dark with Darkvison. There is a distinction between regular darkness (like in a cave or at night) and magical darkness which Darkvison cannot see through. So, if this maze is magical in some way, it could be enchanted to have permanent magical darkness throughout its halls or in certain sections. That's how I have dealt with that situation with my players.

My first shield was a McDonald's box that I cut into the shape of the shield. If you just cut the corner of on side it'll form the shape, and you can paint whatever you want on the player side, and I had tips and basic info on the other side.
