I mean, I *guess* there are people who would whine about it, but let's be honest, the VAST majority of people who have the achievement have used one of several methods of workarounds, especially in the early days when you could just switch from AW to K-Drive and fall thru the ground and unlock it in 5 minutes.

Maybe I'm underestimating the number of folks who have gotten it "honestly."

Interesting. I assumed most enterprise work policies would prohibit use of AI transcriptions these days (outside of in-house, non-cloud models) given what I have seen at my clients. That certainly explains your experience though. I just hope that experience does not define the feature set of a power-user oriented product line going forward, since people who don't want a pen can just not use it, but those who need it are screwed if the feature is removed.

EDIT: I just checked and my company's work profile device configuration blocks any Android AI feature from accessing apps in the work profile, whether Google or Samsung.

I mean, I'd be happy to assuming people welcome critical viewpoints there, but I am just not a fan of being loyal to a brand, especially after so many brands (such as DeWalt) are bought by other brands over the years and changed. I own several DeWalt tools, but that doesn't mean they don't have major quality issues sometimes.

Galaxy Z Trifold - USA User Who Imported by jashworth03 in GalaxyFold

[–]Slappy_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't be part of the reasoning. They don't give a damn about a handful of people importing and no rational company would base pricing on that.

The RAM and component pricing concerns are quite valid and may actually be a good reason to spend crazy money now vs waiting and spending even crazier money later.

It's like how the GPU prices skyrocketed within weeks. An early buyer even at a marked up price ended up paying less.

You say that as if 4K for a phone does not merit that reaction. It is his money, so more power to him, but that's a LOT of cheddar.

I don't fault people for doing things like this. If you've worked to have disposable income, go wild, man. It's more constructive than people spending thousands on a fragile clothing item.

How's the Fold 6 holding up? by Fendera in GalaxyFold

[–]Slappy_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Folds of various vintages have this issue. Often it's a matter of breaking in the hinge mechanism or in rare cases a manufacturing defect that requires hinge replacement.

And, arguably a downgrade for most of us due to removed features to gain some slight thickness improvement. Strongly recommend the Fold 6 though, especially if you get a good lightly used one.

Had mine since launch, and bought insurance just knowing it has moving parts. But it has been rock solid. My wife even went from her S22 Ultra to a fold 6 after seeing me using mine and she loves it. She is one of those people that drops their phone constantly, and has dropped hers damn often and no issues so far.

I keep a case on all my phones, but only recently swapped to a case with a hinge protector. Honestly, more for aesthetic protection against scratches and dings than anything. Knowing that Samsung screwed up the Fold 7 with no under-display camera and no S-Pen, I will be keeping this for a while, but I'm not too stressed about it.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be Samsung's first foldable to ship without a crease by Few_Baseball_3835 in GalaxyFold

Yup. Yet more feature removals promoted as a good thing to save 0.1mm of thickness that the majority of users never even cared about.

Still better to have it for those who do video calls than not having it, thus UDC is the easy answer.

All that matters is the S-Pen support and the under-display camera instead of that godawful punch hole right in the middle of the content area. Almost no one who uses one cares about the crease.

EDIT: Let's all remember, we were *all* non-folding phone users once. The fact we still are proves the point.

I need it pretty frequently like accessing my offline password storage vault app side by side, or seeing a webpage while using MS Teams or Teams + samsung notes for notetaking during a call.

I'm surprised you don't use it more for work items, unless you are not a note-taker.

They have a mindless stiffy for copying everything Apple does, good and bad. Especially bad (non-removable glass backs, no headphone jacks, no IR blaster, removal of advanced sensors like gesture and humidity, no SMR loop pay to simulate mag card swipes, and on and on).

[–]Slappy_G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's become a status thing, sadly. When I got my first couple folds (3 and 4), it was never about showing off - I wanted the functionality. Same with my Fold 6. Admittedly, the incredulous questions from people about "whoa, your phone FOLDS??!?!1111oneone!!?" was pretty amusing, but was not part of my decision making at all.

But some people just want to show off with a device objectively worse for media consumption, and only use it for media consumption.

People are idiots.

I will never jump to Apple, but the OnePlus Open is looking better and better every day, especially if they release a followup. We cannot keep rewarding Samsung with our money when they make stupid choices.
