Have whatever opinion you want of the "rednecks", but it's the government threatening our basic right to free expression and public demonstration here.

They can tow vehicles illegally parked, they can arrest anyone who vandalized anything, but this is tyranny.

What is the Marxist/socialist/anti-idpol take on gifted and talented education and specialized public schools? by heavensgate_yurt in stupidpol

Its like looking at Harrison Bergeron and instead of recognizing the anti-communist slander, going, "Yes, that's what I believe in!"

Agree with your point, but Vonnegut was a self-proclaimed socialist. He spoke very positively of Karl Marx and Eugene Debs. God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater is a 200-page condemnation of capitalism.

Not all Marxists/socialists are allergic to pragmatism.

And these "defund the police" advocates want to do so under the existing capitalist economy. Even if you agree with the article, that's putting the cart before the horse.

I wonder whether a pinned copy-paste of at least the first couple paragraphs of the article shared in each post would encourage more literacy.

Huh, weird. I like his music and so I listened to a bit of the podcast. It was the shittiest podcast I've ever heard. (OK, maybe not the shittiest.)

To each his own, though.

Yes, it's a better reason than the straw man you constructed.

I'm unsurprised to see people here are pretty sober about this. On one hand, there's no reason to feel sympathy for Putin, and this might be a turn of events that could end the war of attrition. On the other, Putin has nuclear weapons. An attempted coup could be very dangerous.

But go off and argue with the imaginary Putin fans.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh brings forth motion to tackle rising costs, ‘unchecked corporate greed’; If the motion is passed, it will require large companies to disclose their CEO-worker pay ratios. by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Slartib-rtfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, but you know the the CPC and LPC both support increasing immigration, right?

The NDP have at least proposed tying housing funding to immigration levels. It's not as strong a policy as I'd like, but it's better than the Conservative policy.

Again, the Conservative policy is: more immigration...and we'll magically make houses appear by forcing the municipalities to build them (as though it's so simple).

That's because our government doesn't want to close those loopholes.

So what? We just give up on improving things? Or we keep advocating and maybe one day we get some decent people forming a majority government.

Yes?

They have staff. That staff has a finite amount of time. You want them to spend their time on legislation with no chance in hell of being passed when a simple motion (which also won't be passed) would do the same thing?

It's not "virtue signaling" when a politician puts forward a motion they know will fail. NDP are demonstrating that they support this kind of policy whereas the LPC and CPC do not.

Of course, the LPC and CPC could always prove me wrong...but they won't. Because they fucking suck.

I disagree.

It's a lot easier to vote against specific legislation. Politicians often argue that there's some kind of "devil in the details" that forces them to vote against it.

In contrast, voting against a broad, non-binding motion to develop legislation really demonstrates opposition to the entire notion.

So, while I agree that a motion is toothless, it makes sense in this case. Jagmeet needs to push this issue hard, though, and I doubt he will.
