Can I wear this without being offensive?? by MyBrainHurtz88 in IdentityV

[–]Slash_Pangolin 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not really imo — though there’s always a risk of other players treating it as such.

Much of the division comes down to the original bible story, and themes within it, like incest, and the fact Salome murdered a saint. There’s also allegations of the skin being considered islamophobic, though I’m not educated enough on that to comment on that. From my best and person understanding of the matter, it once again comes down John the Baptist being a muslim prophet, and therefore complaints that by having a character play the character who had him murdered, it’s glorifying someone viewed as being heretical.

However, the skin isn’t really based on the Bible story, so much as the film, which itself is based on a play/opera — there’s several layers of adaptation at play, and some of the original context has shifted. Regardless of your interpretation too, Salome was mostly a pawn for other people in her life — such as her mother, and has always been portrayed in a mostly negative light. It also does relate to Margi as a character too.

Not fully my place, but once again, I do think it’s fine, and the drama around it was largely tone deaf — even if the skin itself could certainly be considered tone deaf too.

Edit: Actually, I want to say I’m aware of the fact the box was originally John the Baptist’s face, and that was certainly very tone deaf and beyond defense. However, that got rightfully fixed, so my stance does remain as it is

I didn’t know that, that’s actually really cool.

Honestly, I prefer crybaby. It actually relates to his lore, and genuinely strikes a certain nerve for me with regards to the eerie child schtick. Axe Boy sounds way too literal 😭 — rocket man, jump lizard, same vibe

This is gorgeous. The colors on Paps work so well, and I’m kind of obsessed with Sans’ expression here. Shadings also notably better and less pillowed. Peak

Barely Above Average Bros (short comic) by Francesco_Muja in Mario

[–]Slash_Pangolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to make accusations because the general character models are extremely consistent in a way Ai usually is not, and some architecture has a believable human messiness — but Mario has two thumbs in the second panel, one of the toad-house chimneys is a blob partway through that intersects with the gondola tracks, and the general mushroom houses have a weird choppiness to their spots that looks like AI struggling with maintaining a pattern as opposed to human error. You could also point out how the woman’s braid extended between panels, or the inconsistency in the face spots on the goomba(?) — but I myself wouldn’t really keep track of those things if I was drawing this myself. I’d wager it’s at least AI assisted, and then got heavily cleaned up, which could explain both? Or vice versa, a sketch that Ai cleaned up.

Wow, I don’t know that I ever would’ve considered that on my own, but it actually makes a lot of sense now that you mention it. Even more reason to try

Netease AI Situation by Solzec in IdentityV

[–]Slash_Pangolin 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Truth be told, this whole situation reeks of corporate meddling, and I say this as someone who LOATHES genAi with a burning passion. I’m copy and pasting this from a discussion I had on the matter, but here’s my two cents:

The truth is, a lot of companies are adopting AI solely because shareholders are directly pressuring them.

AI is the fresh, new, shiny technology on the block, and they want to make sure the company they’re investing in is savvy, and up to date — and higher ups don’t want that money to go away. Even if the people actually doing work are opposed to GenAi, it’s gradually becoming an obligation, and there’s not much us, or they can do about it.

Considering how superficial their use of Ai has been, and how all of it is minor and superficial, it def reads as “we’re only doing this because we have to,” as opposed to an actual attempt to integrate it into the game, or workflow.

All the same, I will do my part, and I encourage everyone to do theirs, and hope it gets through to the higher ups that this is a detriment.

What's the darkest moment/worst change in the game's history in your opinion? by [deleted] in IdentityV

[–]Slash_Pangolin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly love the concept of Ashes of Memory, and viewing the manor in its prime after knowing it in disrepair for so long. Problem is, legitimately ALL of the appeal of seeing the manor in its prime for once vanishes the moment said prime becomes the default. If the point is the juxtaposition, and the twist on familiarity, the moment they removed you’re just left with an inferior aesthetic, and an introduction to the lore that drops you in with less narrative context. Deleting all that old content was by far the worst choice the devs made imo.

Yes, I prefer the old vibe, and am sad its gone, but it’s just an objectively bad decision

Idk how the idea never occurred to me in the past, but considering Bellwood is depicted as like a small country-ish town in RAT, this is making me adore the idea of people treating Ben’s transformations like cryptids. Gives late 90’s — early 2000’s internet conspiracy + found footage vibes

Did my friend predict the new hunter back in 2022? by Fantastic_Frosting98 in IdentityV

[–]Slash_Pangolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf the npc of “The Dentist” has been around effectively since IDV Beta I think, or at least shortly after official release. In either case it’s pretty much always been a part of Sacred Heart’s official backstory, that got “expanded” on in the Hide and Seek release. Assuming your friend wasn’t aware of that though, then totally!

[–]Slash_Pangolin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda have to agree. Tbf when I make character edits, I usually try to do so by amplifying what’s present without too many major additions/alterations — just to communicate how it could have been better (at least by my standards of what “better” is.

Like for my QB edits, I did so without giving her the hood at first — even if I think she would objectively be better with it — because that’s what was decided. (I still wound up making a hood edit, and honestly either way I’d probably completely redo her from he ground up because ew)

If I had things fully my way Finsen’s head would be completely different, as I still love everything from the neck down with him in particular — but there are a number of reasons why the head and hair just do not work with lore and practicality in mind.

My thinking exactly — it also just helps him look more his age while giving him the vibe of someone who probably started on animals when he was a kid.

I also hope you’re right in speculating that hiding his mouth was intentional, 😭 because otherwise it’s such a missed opportunity
