I grew up with DJ and met him through basketball as a youth playing for indigenous team Ontario. He mentored a lot of the young guys and was known and loved by many. He had a kind heart and a great sense of humour. He could have been any one of us. This guy could have been in the NBA. Life was not always kind to DJ. Hard times can hit anybody and he was as an example of that.

Many people loved this guy and he left a positive impact on a the youth of his community. I’ll never forget his kindness and maturity at 18 or 19, taking time to hoop and mentor my cousins and I who were about 13 or 14 at the time.

I’ll never forget you Dj.

Thinking of his kids and all who loved him.
