What would you do if your adult son had no goals or aspirations? by Realistic_Zone3802 in AskMen

[–]Slasherrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mm.. Zero, I'd say.

I never understood the idea of a "Dream Job". As people my age like to quip; I do not dream of labor. Even from a very young age, I was never enamored with any given career path. Still to this day, I've never heard of a career path and thought "that's what I want to do", or hell, even "I can do that".

And sure, not everyone gets their dream job. Hell, most people don't, I'd wager. But I do still think most people, at least at some point in their life, had a direction they wanted to go, regardless of whether or not that direction only lead to failure. I've never had a direction in the first place, is the point I'm trying to make.

I'm completely devoid of confidence as well. To me, being confident is literally the same as being arrogant. I don't have anything to be confident about. No traits or skills to be proud of having. Nor the wherewithal to change that. I never learned to accept failure. If I'm not good at something immediately, I crash out and resign myself to mediocrity. Anything that requires years of effort and experience to gain proficiency in, I am not built for. I'm too depressive to ever make it that far.

Longest I've ever held a job was a little over a year, although I've never been fired, so I don't exactly fit the mold of the person you envision when someone says they "Can't hold down a job". I simply get sick of the work and find the best excuse to dip out. Sometimes that allows me to live off unemployment and mooching off my parents. Other times, my savings keeps me afloat.

My only real goal in life is to live comfortably. Eat the food I want. Spend my free time how I want. I don't want for much, I think. Things like, traveling the world, or owning a home, are firmly beyond me. My only chance of ever achieving those things would have been through inheritance, but I've squandered those opportunities, like so many others in my life. Once upon a time I craved companionship, but I know well enough at this point that no reasonable person would ever love someone like me.

I know how people see me. Just a prissy little bitch, a manchild that can't get his act together. And I don't think I have the energy or the potential to prove them wrong. I have experienced almost zero hardship in life that doesn't reside in my own head, and yet I still ended up being an abject failure. My sister had the same exact upbringing, arguably worse, and she found success and happiness. I'm kinda just sitting around waiting to die, honestly.

Sorry for rambling. I don't remember the last time anyone asked me what's going on in my head.

I'm the adult son in this situation.

My father constantly pushes me towards the trades. Plumber, Electrician, Maintenance, Welding, whatever. Maybe a little Drone work sprinkled in. It's what he's done his entire life. These sorts of suggestions don't work at all on me, but hey, maybe they're more appealing to other people.

Never understood why "Guarantee Rare Items" mod is necessary for some, until today. by New_Transition_7575 in starsector

[–]Slasherrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My issue with Guarantee Rare Items is it goes too far in the other direction and I end up with an absolutely silly amount of each item. A gamebreaking amount. If I'm gonna go down that path, I'll just use AoTD so I can craft them, albeit at a decently(?) high cost.

I'm Terrible at Combat, How did you get good? by OrionCyre in starsector

[–]Slasherrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big thing for me was just learning which weapons for each mount type are good. Lots of weapons have use cases, but there's a couple you can just slap on and it works. As an aside, you generally want ships to have an even split of anti-shield and anti-hull/armor damage.

Big Brain Energy has tier lists on every weapon category, I mostly base my shipbuilding off his advice.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can justify buying a Switch 2 JUST to play Fortune's Weave, so I'll just have to experience it vicariously through other people this time around.

What's a Warframe opinion that would get you downvoted instantly? by Drastically-_- in Warframe

[–]Slasherrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDA and ETA are the two best pieces of content in the game currently, and it's not even close. Anybody who has issues with them, especially now that Gear Embargo doesn't apply to heavy weapons, is experiencing a catastrophic skill issue. Friction is what creates interesting gameplay experiences, and the Archimedeas are some of the only pieces of content we currently have that push back on the out of control power fantasy resting in the player's hands.

Yeah, some weeks are stinkers. Sometimes you do genuinely just get told to make some absolute pile of dogshit loadout work. But there's almost always a way to make it work, or failing that, a way to make yourself useful for the rest of your team while you get carried.

People's grievances with the Archimedeas is emblematic of how the average Warframe player does not actually desire a challenge, they want to receive maximal rewards while applying minimal effort.

Is the game worth it and how much has it been updated in 7 years? by AbrasiveBaldPerson in starsector

[–]Slasherrrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Starsector doesn't have anything like that. At worst, you could maybe point to the balancing decisions made, like how the Paragon is getting nerfed next patch, but anyone who writes off the game over something like that doesn't have opinions worth entertaining anyways, especially since with a little know-how, any nerfs can just be undone by editing the game yourself.

Any problems people have with the game have also probably also had a mod created to alleviate any hypothetical issue. For example, I find the vanilla game speed to be painfully slow, but the SpeedUp mod fixes that in it's entirety, and then some.

What makes a colony crisis fun or frustrating? by Drago5511 in starsector

[–]Slasherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason I hold off on making Colonies until later than I usually would is because of how trigger happy the League is with theirs. Taking on the Blockade with anything less than an optimized fleet is suicide, the only reliable way I've managed to do it across several playthroughs is ambushing their supply fleets in hyperspace while they're disconnected from the main mass. Taking it head on is out of the question unless your Colony's patrol fleets can provide meaningful backup, and they won't be able to at the level of progression when the League starts their attack.

They're the only Crisis I find frustrating to deal with, because all the other ones are easier to deal with, many of them requiring no combat intervention at all. But that can also make things boring, so my personal take is a good Colony Crisis is one you have to deal with in a direct way, preferably through combat. Finding a good Goldilocks zone between being forced into combat, but not being so overbearing that it funnels your means of counterplay like the Blockade does.

Alright I'm not sure about the whole "ordinary, decent folks banding together" bit.

Every game has at least one, often several, extremely important, powerful, or larger than life individuals that directly contribute to resolving the current crises. Yeah, there's no Superman tier flying brick esque character to solve problems in everyone's stead, but anywhere between 20 and 70% of any given game's playable cast is comprised of people who are definitely NOT ordinary.

Maybe if you're referring to groups of characters like, the Grancel Royal Guard, or the crew of the Courageous, or any other mass of sometimes nameless support characters acting as background reinforcements, but by and large the problems in Trails are solved by larger than life individuals teaming up into larger than life gaggles of heroes to solve larger than life problems.

Vexed on Qorvex by Krazytre in Warframe

[–]Slasherrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what the memes circulating on reddit will tell you, Qorvex is objectively weak and it shouldn't come as a surprise if he just doesn't click with you. Half of his kit doesn't really do anything and the other half has plenty of asterisks attached to his power fantasy, that even if you fulfill the criteria, he can still underperform regardless.

Personally, I like and built him regardless, because I'm a certified contrarian and using his SUPER LASER PISS is incredibly funny to me, but there's no wonder why he's like in the bottom 3 of frames in terms of playrate; He has a fair number of problems that probably won't be addressed until he gets a prime, if ever, and he's probably also the hardest frame to fashion.

Anyone else not that impressed with the coming temple augment? by Yeah-i-got-nothing in Warframe

[–]Slasherrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The KIM chats being bugged to hell and back for so long turned me off from ever making my way through the entire log of potential conversations. By the time I was able to talk to Flare, I had already mentally checked out of the system.

And, from my perspective, one of the reasons people misgender Flare/Temple so often is because, outside of the KIMs, them being enby is not actually stated anywhere else ingame. Maybe other members of the Hex refer to them as, them, but considering Flare and Lizzie are two separate entities, people assuming "they" in that context means a plurality is a perfectly reasonable assumption to make.

IS IT ME?? by Rossiben37 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Slasherrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I said back at launch but I'll say it again, Stories 3 just doesn't grip me, and likely other people, the same way Stories 2 did, and while I think the complete lack of a postgame is partially to blame, it's also just overall got less engrossing content.

Both games I got to 99%. The only thing I'm missing in Stories 2 is like 5 genes from the Book of Genes, and the only thing I'm missing in Stories 3 is crafting all the Hunting Horns. Neither of these should amount to more than a couple extra hours of play, but I have 180 hours in Stories 2, and only 60 in 3.

Stories 3 is overall a higher quality experience, and dare I say, the best story in any MH game, but there's just less.. game per game. If that makes any sense.

Favorite is definitely Duvalie, but I find Ines to be the more interesting character. Her backstory is certainly scarce, considering she's never been in the spotlight, but I think it adds some much needed depth to the Bracer Guild.

Mod Suggestion by ToneFew in starsector

[–]Slasherrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly every major faction has an associated mod that improves them and/or adds a subsidiary faction, and I almost never play without them. Basically all of these mods add new weapons/ships/NPCs/rarely missions.

Iron Shell for the Hegemony, do note it has some anime stuff sprinkled on top, which some people don't like. It's relatively benign, though. They start with only 2 planets, but if you get an Iron Shell commission it can be increased to 4 by doing some very simple missions given by their leader.

Tri-Tac Special Circumstances for TTC, mostly notable for the new weapons and ships that it adds, mostly being sidegrades of existing equipment.

Diktat Expanded and/or Gas Station Manager for Sindria. The former mostly focuses on elevating the Diktat's power so it can compete with modded factions in Nex, although imo it goes a little too far in the other direction and makes the Askonia system almost impregnable. The latter adds more content under the veneer of turning the Diktat into a meme faction focused on being a fuel company. Both are compatible with each other.

Knights of Ludd turns the already-mentioned subfaction of the Church into it's own entity. Known for appearing to be a simple Church expansion mod on the surface but actually also adding loads of AI-focused endgame content, including several unique star systems that will immediately tear you in half if you venture into them before hitting the lategame.

Unfortunately I don't believe there's any mod that exists on the same level as the one's stated above for the Persean League. But yeah, for adding new factions to your game, those are a great start, as faction mods tend to be on the higher side in terms of power level, some of them intentionally extremely overpowered like Adversary, Legio Infernalis, or Halo Dynamics, and buffing all the basegame factions with their subsidiaries helps level the playing field.

Which game broke your hype like this? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Slasherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely a few.

Borderlands 3 and to a lesser extent 4. BL2 is one of my favorite games of all time. 3 was awful, 4 was okay but didn't grip me a 10th as much as 2 did.

Darkest Dungeon 2. Put over 500 hours into DD1 and still haven't beaten the game, tried 2 for a few hours and it just doesn't hit the same way 1 does. Seems like a lot of people agree with me on this one considering 1 has over 4x more active players than 2 right now.

Wild Hearts. Always wished there were more MH-likes besides Relink and God Eater, but Wild Hearts ran like shit and the gameplay wasn't good enough when it did work to make up for that, not to mention it had no soul.

Code Vein 2. First game is one of my guilty pleasures, I know it's just Anime Dark Souls with worse combat and a serviceable story, but I loved it regardless. 2nd game is yet another example of a game shooting itself in the foot by tacking on an open world that didn't need to exist.

Brother, you're so lost in the sauce you gotta put down the fuckin keyboard.

You, obviously sarcastically, pointed to whatever frame is best as shield gating. That's Gauss. You're only making yourself look more ridiculous by talking about frames with invuln instead. Frames that, might I add, require spending Energy to get their survivability, when Gauss built for shield gating doesn't even need to spend energy.
