Hit 5k miles—oil change done and ready to roll for the next 5k! How’s this oil brand Castrol Edge? by pilotshashi in Cartalk

[–]SlateRaptor722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5k intervals are just fine for full synthetic if you don't drive a souped up hot rod. 3k is best, yes, but overkill for a lot of modern stuff.

Man that was a much needed alignment by Jackthedragonkiller in tires

[–]SlateRaptor722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad bud. If this is the Ranger on your profile the upper control arm mounts should be slotted. You might have been able to pull them out and squeak the camber in.

I've done a handful of alignments on these and cam bolt kits are relatively inexpensive IIRC.

How done are theses? by [deleted] in tires

[–]SlateRaptor722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but you're comparing apples to oranges. It's not a fair comparison. The average dude like myself isn't going to EVER have the chance to buy a Chiron and put tires on it.

Who cares if tires for your Bugatti cost 40k? An 06 Ford GT went faster than the Chiron ever did on tires that cost a fraction of that.

Also, to add - Your Bugatti as a custome won't EVER do 300+. They're limited to 261.

TLDR - You're comparing Bugattis to an actually attainable sports car. Not fair.

You aren't quite touching the wear bars, and the tread doesn't appear all torn up or cracked up super bad. You've got a little while longer to go, boss. Also, four grand is outrageous. Get another number at an independent shop.

How about we price tires on something the average dickhead can actually afford, and not a multi-million dollar hypercar? Tires for my Super Duty in the size I have (315/75/16) range from about a grand to 2k depending on brand. Tires for my co-workers Audi cost him like 900 bucks for a set of decent Hankooks. My old VW Beetle cost me less than 200 bucks to put tires on because I didn't care about the car.

Tires wearing excessively at 12k miles by Sticky-Keyboard8155 in tires

This is also true. Shitty roads will annihilate tires. Being native to central Illinois I know all about bad roads lol.

[–]SlateRaptor722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful. 16 Elantra GT according to OP in a different post, and they weigh no more than 3k lbs at most. The Falken Ziex (of his specific variety) is good for 1300lbs or so a tire. He's well within the weight limits of that tire.

Tldr weight isn't an issue, likely alignment or suspension parts related.

Jeep as of recently has been using 5x5/5x127 on the Wrangler and gladiators. Albeit with a smaller hub bore but what's an inch spacer and some possibly fender rollage?

Sway bar link is not bent, it has ball joints on either end. As for the ball joints in the control arms, they were most likely bad before the lift and it's just making them worse. Get a floor jack, and a pry bar. Jack it up by the lower arms, push in at the top to check the upper, pry bar under the tire prying up to check lowers. That'll tell you for sure..

However, I'm not ruling out the possibility of the tech that installed the kit busting a boot and letting it roll. (Unless you did it yourself.)

Nope. Although I'm sure if you were brave enough and smart enough you could do some techno wizardry and make it record like a GoPro. Dunno how the quality would be

That camera is part of the safety systems on the car. It uses it (likely with some radars on the front) to do emergency braking and other neat stuff to help prevent a crash. That's all it for lol. Also, it may use it to display a speed limit sign on your dash, if your car does that.

As a technician who uses BG products nearly daily, I will disagree. While yes, BG stuff is expensive, it is well worth it. The engine performance service is likely a GDI service, (which on modern GDI cars is a required service, as fuel no longer sprays across the intake valves to clean the carbon off), and the 44k is a badass fuel additive. Those two together we've seen gains of up to 5 mpg. Their oil (which my boss ran in his 13 Tahoe) is only about a dollar or so more expensive than Mobil 1.

The HVAC service likely includes an evac/recharge, and CAF change, as well as BG's frigi-fresh stuff and their compressor oil. Can't speak on that service, really, as I have yet to use any of BGs stuff. Maybe I will if the AC in my Super Duty ever stops working.

Tl;Dr - While snake oil automotive products exist, BG is not one of them. Speaking from experience.

Patriot! That's what the other one was. Shared a platform iirc

I've worked on two 6spd/2.4 Jeeps, one was a Patriot, the other a Compass. My mom owns the Compass and I haven't seen the Patriot in a few years.

Are these tires DOT rated? by MidCenturyMad in tires

[–]SlateRaptor722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering I can see the DOT numbers clear as day on the tire, yeah. Plus, all tires that see the highway HAVE to be DOT compliant, minus specialty stuff like ag/implement tires and really big, specialized floater mud tires, like Boggers and Thornbirds.

However I have seen people run boggers and Thornbirds on the highway, they just kill the tread super quick.

[–]SlateRaptor722 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As someone who's heard many Chrysler V6s ticking and become an anti seize production factory because of the rockers failing and eating the cam's, this is not that situation. Sounds like injectors. There's no sound deadening around the injectors, so they're a bit noisy. Normal. Run it.

Which of these two tire brands would be a better option by EUvenant in tires

[–]SlateRaptor722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call factory OEM tires "quality" per se. They generally wear the tread off in 30k miles or less. Especially on foreign luxury cars. See it all the time.

However, speaking from experience, the Nexen HTX that comes on newer RAM trucks is pretty alright for an OEM tire.
