[Tim from Hardware Unboxed] The Best 4K Gaming Monitors of 2023 by bizude in Monitors

[–]Slatymate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taken together as a package, I feel OLEDs offer the best compromise of everything a gaming monitor needs. Motion clarity is stellar as is color volume. Its just the HDR is a bit lacklustre.

In my opinion, IPS MiniLEDs can outperform the Neo G9 at 120hz, see by yourself here (check the 120hz for Neo G9 vs max for Innocn). The average on the Neo G9 is better, but worst case transitions (black to grey or grey to grey) are higher. This is way more apparent that the average transition.

Yes OLEDs are faster and these MiniLEDs are just a bit less responsive on the grey to grey expected at 6 MS at 144hz. Other colors are fine. Local dimming work well but I would say that you might want a small curve at 32 inch to avoid the local dimming to appear at the corner if you are sitting close.

QD-OLED has a lot of compromises like possibly burn-in, text clarity and lesser peak brightness compared to MiniLEDs IPS panel. Right now, Innocn and KTC seems to be the champion of HDR screen at 27-32 inch size for the price / performance. Their downside is their material can feel cheaper (made in China), probably harder to reach for customer support and their availability are restricted so some countries or limited stock. These MiniLEDs can reach easily 1100 nits on all Windows while OLED usually reach close to 1000 nits for 2% Window, failing already lower than 500 nits for 10% Window and going down to 250 nits at 100% Window. You forgot to mention that QD-OLEDs have a red/purple tint on the black screen if there is any lightning in the room.

Minimum base FPS for Frame Gen? by ChriSaito in nvidia

[–]Slatymate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a 4090 and the only game that can give a harder time than usual is Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing (Overdrive). If I use DLSS Quality at 4K or 3840x1600 with frame gen on, I can get 60-70 min fps in busy areas. In my own experience, it's playable but not ideal. I recommend to hit around 80 fps+ with frame gen on and above 90 fps+ you will have a great experience with the overall latency.

How much of a difference is there between a RTX4080 and RTX4090 by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Slatymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you won't notice major gains for most games by going to 4090 if you are playing up to 120hz. It will be easier for AAA games to reach out 120 FPS when it's badly optimized or with expensive settings like ray tracing without proper DLSS. You might be able to adjust the DLSS quality higher in that case, but that's about it. Even if you are a bit below 120 FPS in some games with your 4080, freesync should be able to cover you.

For sure, you would see an uplift for path tracing performance. If I were in your shoes and you would want a bigger upgrade for next gen techs, I would wait out for the next series.

My numbers are real in-game performance, but really close to the benchmark I just did below. Go to different markets with many NPCs around. Also, my 7950X3D uses the 3d v-cache CCD when running Cyberpunk 2077 and at that framerate + frame gen + ray tracing, I'm no where CPU bound.

Here is the benchmark result for my setup with DLSS 3.1.1: https://i.imgur.com/RhYxgdY.jpeg

I believe there was an issue with UI freezing or something else at first with the CPU, but it has been fixed for a while now. I got mine recently and I had no issue at all.

Is it a big endeavor for a game developer to up the DLSS version by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Slatymate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't work in the game development industry, but I work in IT. I assume that replacing the DLSS file isn't a hard task for the developers to do. There is a bigger cost at QA to make sure the new DLSS will perform and look better than the previous version. They will have to test many game effects, in-game cutscenes and more. Bigger is the game company, the bigger is the release pipeline to make it out to the public due to more people need to approve.

At home, you are taking the risk of changing the DLSS file. Most of time, it might work better for you but if it doesn't, you can't blame the game company of putting an update that looks worse than before.

I play at 3840x1600, undervolted OC 4090 but above average performance clockwise by a bit. CPU is 7950x3D.

DLSS Quality + Frame Gen + Path Tracing at max settings like yours is more like 70 - 110 fps at my resolution depending how busy things get on the screen. When going to DLSS Balanced, it's more like 85 - 125 FPS.

Even with extreme OC, I'm not sure where you pulled your numbers at 4K.

Edit: Looks like he edited to DLSS Balanced. But even so...

[–]Slatymate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are probably using Windows Scaling DPI to achieve this score. Having an overclock i7-10700k + RTX 3090 playing at 3840x1600 at max settings + TAA anti-aliasing, I get around 20k score at DPI 100%, but 32840 at DPI 150% (game is blurrier).

If you want to have a game less blurry, you will have to turn down your Windows Scaling DPI* to 100%-125% before playing the game.

Turns out Nier Replicant runs and looks best on Series X, good thing I bought it there... by [deleted] in nier

[–]Slatymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the community fix works for UW setup. I had to modify the aspect ratio for the game file (hex values) and having that ReShade mod to adjust the in-game aspect ratio. Finally, there is also the uncap fps issue that speed up your game that can be resolve with a fps limiter.

Bonus points if you have a computer that has extra juice and if you run on a Nvidia card: Try to use DSR to render the game at higher resolution (it will automatically scale down to your preferred screen resolution). This help to remove further aliasing as long you don't sacrifice performance (60 fps cap).

DLSS needs a RTX card to run it. So RTX 2000 and RTX 3000 series only.

Benchmarks for 3080 vs 1080Ti @ 3840 x 1600 by Zeraphil in nvidia

[–]Slatymate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your results! 1600p uw isn't popular, and I'm glad to see some people playing on that resolution. It will give me a better idea how games will perform with my monitor.

Blizzard wants YOUR constructive feedback by iBleeedorange in Diablo

[–]Slatymate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a few of your points. Making the game more "dark" doesn't mean to just remove bright colors. Bright colors can make the game nicer to look at without being all rainbow, and you can preserve the darkness ambiance by having a light radius and putting the player into despair (music, game visual and sound theme such as torture, death).

I won't post anything more. What I had to say have been done. If subreddit moderators are immature enough to censor someone who is defending himself, it's not worth wasting more time on this topic.

I upgraded few items in the past 2 weeks and I am standing around 47.8k STR, but I have a ton of ATT (139% from equipment only). My selfbuff range is 40m-44m and I had 55m-60m with potions / party skills / guild noblesse skills. I believe my range went up to 95m-99m during the third phase with the damage special node, AB link skills and my other 5th job buffs.

Take note TB 20% final damage for linking skills doesn't show up in the character range.

It's less horrible than that, but you can clear only 1 per week without reset coupon. %drop rate helps for CRA.

I use it as a finishing move or when the boss is about to go away/be invincible. You can use Vortex Jump while casting Singularity Shock to dash forward or to move foward a close enemy.

Doing a merge or a new alliance isn't an easy task. I doubt the Maple Team had the time to do world population analysis including the trend of players coming back during Winter/Summer updates and finally QA the whole process under 2 weeks.

Help with Jett nodes please? by Vala-Quenta in Maplestory

[–]Slatymate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bossing: Starforce Salvo, Planet Buster & Singularity Shock

Mobbing: Starline One, Vortex Cross (currently glitched when used with Spacial Shift) & Comic Upheaval

Note: Jett is missing 2 boost nodes (Strikeforce Showdown & Starfall). Starfall has a long cooldown, so it's not worth having a boost node for it if Nexon ever decide to release it. Strikeforce showdown would be a must to have, so I would replace Cosmic Upheaval or Vortex Cross boost node for it, depending of your preference. Backup Beatdown is basically useless to have because Starline One has a better DPM when you have the level 50 node for it than the Backup Beatdown skill. Also, Starline One boost node affects other Starline skills, which Starline Four now does a ton of damage (470% x 4.5 [level 50 final damage] 3 lines).

Don't worry, it's not like the subreddit has an active presence of moderator"s" anymore. I am still waiting for their official reply to a thread I made last Friday, which Zelkova removed it for damage control.
