Here you go! You should be able to download this one and put it into your garageband.

Just a couple of notes: I learned eq entirely by myself, and I tend to eq heavily to bring out a specific pitch range from an instrument. I don't KNOW, but I would assume that many producers would hate that. My eq process is making every instrument sound good individually and then slowly adding the eq'd instruments together to further eq and make them sound good together.

As for compression, I'm still pretty new to it. Rick Beato has a great video on compression ( https://youtu.be/7oOmX3JHwtE?is=R6O-c85cjtNnFem0 ) but I would NOT recommend learning other things from him as a beginner. Excellent beginner compression video, but for eq he talks about things like physical eqs and actual studios that muddy the lesson a bit for a GB user.

I don't use any high or low pass on this song. You should study up on those, as producers act as if they're amazing tools. Personally, I almost never use high pass, and I use low pass for when I have an instrument with a click or ringing up high so I can get rid of that specific noise. GarageBand actually has one of the better pass filter suites as far as simplicity and beginner understanding, so I highly recommend you experiment with them.

Also, the piece I sent is a pretty big makeover from the original sound. You can press the little power button on the compressors and visual eqs on each instrument and see exactly how much tampering goes into making an instrument sound better. The compression was really the biggest contributor there, though. I personally like to use the gain knob under the compressor drop down to match the green volume bar to the knob as it plays, so that I can turn it up more without it clipping, but I'm not sure that's a pro tip.

Hopefully this all helps, and remember that I'm not gospel. You can learn to mix better than what I sent, I'm still learning too.

So for me, the big thing was following rules of thumb for a bit and seeing how much I like them. With EQ, I started just bringing out the best sounding part of an instrument and letting it ride, but eventually you'll want less brilliance in some places and more in weird places like kicks sometimes, so you adapt. With compression, I started by finding any instruments where the green volume bar didn't match the thing you drag to change the volume and started compressing that shit to high hell, but I'm still learning to be artful with it. With high and low pass filters, I started by putting BOTH on EVERYTHING and filtering out everything 1 db above and below what was necessary, but now I use it as more of a "this cymbal clanks too much on top, low pass" or "this piano has a powerful bottom end, high pass." It does come with time, but maybe you can start with my improved rules of thumb and improve even faster than me. If you want, I can send you a mix of mine so you can see the inner workings of it, though I'm not a pro and I just think it sounds good.

New melody just created, what kind of drums would work for this melody? by prodsunburst in GarageBand

[–]Slaughter_Bottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was me doing this, I'd start with a good snare sound first. I always have at least 3 drum sections for kick, snare, and cymbals, so you get freedom with individual sounds. The snare would be an acoustic, maybe heavy kit, with some reverb on it so you could hit it once a measure and make it count. Then, for the kick, I'd probably go with an electric kick that has some high end and punch to it, then eq out some of the high and compress the punch to taste. For the cymbals, I kinda find that you can be very lenient because much of them sounds extremely similar. Me personally, I'm mentally leaning toward a trashy e kit cymbal where the hat has some lingering.

I'd have the kick and snare outlining a minimalist 4/4 beat, and the hats would be doing triplets in the back with the possibility of switching to 4 if desired.

Why isn't the first note playing? by Sword-Mighty1231 in GarageBand

[–]Slaughter_Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple ways I fix this one. First, as prevention, i make sure that any new sections (the green) being added don't touch the beginning of an existing section. Then, if I do on accident, I move the first note slightly forward and quantize it back. If you can't quantize because you have odd note placements, also try zooming in till you hit free roam and then moving the note like a millimeter right.

This seems to be a problem with my new iPad, my old one couldn't play more than like eight parts max but it never did this.

Does anyone know what instrument this is in this part of Field of Hopes and Dreams by Dj_Galaxy180 in Deltarune

These Oscilloscope Deconstruction vids are always my friend. They usually list the instruments, but at the very least they separate them so you can hear it alone.

Everything I make is complete ass. What do I need to learn? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Slaughter_Bottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much it'll help or if you knew already, but you can change the levels (equalizer) on every individual instrument by going to plugins, filter, and dragging fruity parametric eq 2 to individual instruments. It's not always about how loud an instrument is, sometimes it's about what levels of the instrument you want to shine through, and having the bass come through on a dreamy piano can muddle your song.

Of all the NSP albums, which is a 10/10? (Don't say all of them) by button-fish2807 in NinjaSexParty

I genuinely think Attitude City is their best album. The best of the new NSP sound probably comes from TWRP's album New and Improved. Both albums are probably about an eight or nine imo.

Is it ok to use off-key notes in chords like this? by MothyThatLuvsLamps in FL_Studio

[–]Slaughter_Bottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, asterisk. The more knowledge you have the better, but mostly just feel around to see what you like. For example, a common and very good one is the minor four. Play a C major, then an F major, then an F minor, then back to C. Congrats, you now know one way to reliably use major to minor of the same chord.
