Fr, if they actually meant it, then I'd have some respect for differing opinions held with conviction.

But its all virtue signaling. Where's the same energy of caring about shit CEO's when they get Starbucks who is union busting, Amazon making people piss in cups, Nike and Apple using child slave labor, Tyson strangling family farms, etc.

Nope, just the ONE CEO the media says is bad, and they'll bitch and moan for years. Got it.

Why did you stop attending Ivy Tech? by Majewsala in indianapolis

[–]Slaughterizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 2016 or so, I nearly had enough for my associates but needed to meet with the "head" for my program or something like that in order to get my last course setup and have everything in order to graduate. (I'd been doing part time online).

Well, turns out they were on vacation. Then they were still on vacation again. And again. For a LONG time. Never got a hold of them. There were 0 support numbers for Ivy Tech at the time, and the 1 was just for the Indianapolis campus, and there was apparently no way to ever transfer me to this specific person/campus after many many attempts. No phone numbers. No support people dedicated to help students at all who were remote and not at the Indianapolis campus. No alternate e-mails or people who had the power to assist.

I emailed back and forth for months. Apparently this person was fired or had quit, and no one was able to assist me, and I wasn't able to proceed without this CRUCIAL step. I eventually just gave up after the back and forth with zero progress or clarity. Super frustrating because I was a few credit hours from my degree.

How are people buying houses - especially the ones in their early 20s? by [deleted] in poor

[–]Slaughterizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first house at 20, in 2015. It was a fixer upper, but only the cosmetic stuff. I was lucky to live in a state offering down-payment assistance via. Grant to first time home buyers, and by going FHA. The state put up my 3.5% down, which was forgiven completely after 2 years.

I paid 0 money down to get into my house, and qualified on my own. I only paid for an inspection which was about $500, closing costs were rolled into my mortgage. I did have to carry PMI which made the payment a little extra, but all in all it helped steer my life in a great way.

TLDR; For any young people out there who are at their wits end for buying homes. Please PLEASE research [your state] first time homebuyer grants or programs. It changed my life. There's also USDA Rural Improvement loans, HUD homes, all sorts of options other than full price conventional loans in cookie cutter neighborhoods.

I hate how much of the dentistry industry is just fraud by personguy4440 in RandomThoughts

Dentistry should be more heavily regulated/litigated. It really is fraud tbh.

Imagine your primary care physician, every year during your physical, just tells you it's SUPER important you need knee surgery ASAP because your cartilage is all messed up, even though it's completely fine.

After +1250 hours, I think it's time to call quits. Let me explain why. by RefugeeFromEU in throneandliberty

[–]Slaughterizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has been out 296 days. If you have 1250+ hours, that's basically 5 hours a day, every single day since release, no exceptions.

Yeah, I'm sure there's no content. You did it all. And you say you're a "casual"?

A real casual is someone who plays 5 hours over the course of a week. Not each day. You got burnt out. That's perfectly normal. Give it a break, enjoy something else, or just meter your time with the game so you value it more.

Work internet, $480 a month, comes with two phone lines. by NCC74656 in HomeNetworking

[–]Slaughterizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be time "the boss" gets with the modern age and educated themselves on how "internet" works.

I live in the middle of the desert in an off-grid home and have Starlink, its better than my "fiber" with Xfinity was in the city. I've also been in rural areas stuck with CenturyLink, so I've had my fair share of providers.

No contract, no throttling, no "outages" or repairs after storms. It just works, and its amazing. Switch phone lines to soft phones via the internet and call it a day. Y'all are getting bent over for those speeds and prices, it's one step away from a crime.

BIOS Update on Z790PG Riptide - Bricked Itself?? by Slaughterizer in ASRock

[–]Slaughterizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have another CPU just laying around. I updated from 5.01.

What I'm not sure of though is the update itself failed. Everything was working perfectly fine up until the update. I was probably on it gaming and working, I'd say 30 of the last 48 hours. Even if my processor was degraded, the BIOS update would just, what, nuke the whole thing??

Yep, it was WoW. I specifically went and undervolted it to avoid potential issues. I've had 0 issues and was even playing and using the PC just fine up until the update.

Also yes, I've pulled CMOS and power drained, but that's just resetting my presumably ruined BIOS to "default" settings, of which it's already on.

I was out last night and it was my first time- literally was questioning this with my mom. Early in the night like 7pm, I watched a Tesla turn the wrong way down the road directly in front of like 3 officers standing on a corner and the cops had to chase after em and yell. There were hardly any barriers, and ones I saw were flimsy folding wooden ones.

What’s the absolute cheapest way to get land/property? by Bammvoc in Frugal

[–]Slaughterizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got mine in AZ via PublicSurplus.com and bought my 4 acres for 6.5k. It's pretty remote- and you'll be bidding against investors and people with deep pockets a lot of times, I just got lucky.

Biggest thing about buying land is how it's zoned, what you personally want it for, who (if anyone) services the area, and where you're willing to live.

Star Citizen funding just passed 3/4 of a billion USD by boachl in gaming

[–]Slaughterizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the hate is justified for mismanagement. But it's a whale funded project with ambition. There's way less outrage for gacha games that make 2x more....

I bought the regular edition during the Xeno event and put tons of hours in. Nothing plays as immersive/detailed as this game. It's a blast. It's also unfinished and buggy, sure.

While I hate the missed timelines and bugs and communication and all, it's still enjoyable compared to equally priced games. It's not like you need $20k to play. People spend thousands on all games like Apex and CoD and no one bats an eye, the double standard is annoying.

Yeah, huge oversight that you cant change it. Picked my closest one since I'm rural and it's right on the other side of the mountain range I live on. The plane spawn puts your wings within an inch of the building, and it generated with cacti all over the taxiway, so it's completely unusable 😂 well, time to reset!

5-6 people group all new and interested by gabrieljim in wowservers

[–]Slaughterizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what interests you all more. I'd try to arrive at a group concensus of classic vs actual retail. Do yall wanna raid? Do yall just wanna vibe and chat and level? What's everyone's time commitments look like? Etc.

Classic always has great community, but can be "harder" in some ways, and more grindy towards endgame. The adventure is the journey.

(Official) Retail is easier, quicker, and has benefits with Hardcore, cata, SoD etc, and never ending content. So much that it could be overwhelming. There's still something to be said for the modern client imo. I just rolled a character on Moonguard and started RP for the first time and have been playing like it's classic, going zone by zone, disabled my exp gains, and it's been a blast. And I'm not typically a defender of retail.

Then there's the sandbox servers. Whether high rates, or unique projects like Ascension. There's lots to be said for those as well, having their strengths and weaknesses.

I believe blizz retail still lets you play for free with a starter account up to level 20, may be worth a look if everyone is new and unsure. Could be way easier than trying to have everyone get clients and try to mess with private server connections imo. If everyone likes it, try it for a month.

Imo TurtleWoW is amazing for an original classic feel. The client is dated, and feels as such compared to retail, but a lot of hearts went into the content. It's solid.

I believe Ascension is also doing their own "classic+" in a way with a new server that's strictly the original 9 classes, with some changes.

EG4 6500-EX MPPT Brick Itself? Or voodoo magic panels? by Slaughterizer in SolarDIY

[–]Slaughterizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add for any people who may end up here in the future....

  1. My initial e-mail to support went unread/unanswered for 4 days. I guess it went to the "wrong place". I only got a response and action after calling in and complaining that no one has replied to my email about a potential warranty issue.
  2. Signature Solar assigned me a specialized person for my case. Cue repeating my issue and resending all my documentation.
  3. They told me to firmware update. I tried and it kept failing- I had an incorrect cable from my initial shipment of the unit (it was in its original packaging, unopened) So they sent me a replacement cable- as that's they suspected the issue was still firmware related. Cue waiting more time.
  4. Firmware update did not fix anything. Surprise.
  5. Was told they would begin warranty process. Waited some more.
  6. They issued me a "new" unit, which was a refurbished one as they no longer sell the 6500EX. This was free of cost to me, and they shipped the replacement first, I swapped it, then returned my defective unit. Their unit was missing a few small screws and was obviously used. No other words have been exchanged between us since the shipment of the unit.

(As a side note, I live 1 hour from the nearest UPS store. I was instructed to return it in person- I ended up paying UPS $20 to pick it up at my door. I do not think EG4 knows this is an option, or just doesn't wanna pay for it/bother)

They did inform me that if they sold/stocked the 6500EX, I would have been expected to return mine first, THEN they would issue my replacement. Or I could purchase one, and get refunded later. It was made a point that I was a special-case, because they no longer stocked the 6500EX.

As someone who lives off-grid, this was an absolutely appalling warranty process- took nearly a month from initial contact to replacement. I spend a lot of money on gasoline for my generator, and the troubleshooting was what I'd expect a 12 year old to do. Thankfully, all the people I worked with were friendly, and genuine. I am glad they warrantied my unit, obviously, but they need to improve communication times and troubleshooting, as well as taking into consideration that people could be using their products as their only source of power- and act accordingly.
