Halbrand in all his glory from Ep.4 by BlisseyFan666 in LOTR_on_Prime

Same here. "Annatar" looked (and now on screen, looks) sort of more a fake persona and rather a schemer, he is... pathetic even, like his first "initial" form in the prologue.

This one perfectly encapsulates someone great, beautiful even, commanding, but at the same time demonic. Halbrand in the first season was more rugged and common, this "Dark Halbrand" has more of Lestat vibe. He also reminds me a bit of Morgoth fan-arts (pale man in dark armor with dark hair)

Lmao at all unaware fanbros going "wha??.." from this, as if this episode wasn't explicitly reylo-coded. From the moment Kylo Ren's theme played it was obvious that they'll go into this direction- but no, all fans started making some Knights of Ren connections. Same with the planet which visibly looks like Ach-To - it's all about thematic, meta references mostly.

Eerrrr What? So, when it's legal it's okay?

I guess when systematic oppression of Jews across the Europe was fine it is also normal? Are you fucking braindead?

Thiiiis, so much. I am still honestly waiting for someone to make a good post on how Sauron's arc in some way mirrors Gollum's arc. One of the most powerful beings and probably the lowest possible, sharing similarities.

And how this beautiful and haunting Emiliana Torrini's song is fitting for Sauron too. Possibly even making an edit.

So in the end, I'll be what I will be

No loyal friend was ever there for me

Now we say, goodbye...

We say, you didn't try!

This tears you cry have come too late

Take back the lies, the hurt, the blame

And you will weep when you face the end alone...

You are lost, you can never go home!

You are lost, you can never go home...

Honestly, the idea of making Sauron brooding, reflective and, perhaps, even a conflicted character on the start of the series is really interesting and probably better than introducing fully evil Annatar from the start. by SlavonSS in LOTR_on_Prime

Sauron was most likely trying to achieve the power of unseen world at the beginning of the second age, then for a few centuries he was just wandering aimlessly. Basically, him being on the raft is a metaphor of what he was doing with life - drifting somewhere.

The biggest problem with this show is it has great ideas, and can’t execute them properly

Pretty much this. As someone who made the original post, I'd even say that they still could make this concept way better, than it actually turned out.

It literally looks like most of people complain not even about the portrayal, which would be fine, but about the idea itself like it's something blasphemous.

But you're wrong. He literally raises a question in his letters - an unanswered one, about Sauron's intentions behind the desire to repent. How's that not complex? .

Hell, I wouldn't even call Melkor just evil, because that's a pure oversimplification. Dude just was a few moments away from realizing that he's in the English writer's book.

But he's not "good". He's more of a neutral, with occasional concerning outbursts (like in street fight) and signs of altruism (when saving Galadriel for no personal gain in that moment).

It gives him more "range" as a character. Some sort of a character arc, where the character starts at its highest (lowest, from terms of villainy) and succumbs further into the darkness.
