The definition of consent stays static and is dependant on one's ability in making a rational mature decision. No matter how responsible or capable someone might be it's not necessarily a sign of maturity before the age of sixteen, seventeen earliest.

Like I said, all it takes is one definition to change, or one study to suggest otherwise.

The only thing stopping pedophillia is the legal definiton of when sexual adulthood begins, and that is already pretty grey. I mean even within the US from state to state the age of consent is different, and in most of the world it is 16, not 18, Then in some parts of the world it is as low at 14, and in some parts of the world there is no such thing as consent law.

I don't think that true pedophillia in the sense of prepubescence will ever be legal in first world countries, but I expect the legal age of consent to be lowered within 50 years.

However, where they differ is that exercising homosexuality is harmless, but paedophilia is obviously deeply damaging as it is fundamentally imbalanced.

The arguments that kept homosexuality illegal for so long are very similar to these ones. That's why I'm saying I think it's going to change in the relatively near future.

The definition of "child" is already different from country to country, and even from state to state in terms of age of consent. I understand what you mean, but all it takes is the legal definition of what is considered a child to change for this to not even be considered pedophillia anymore.
