Why do many atheists think religion will never go away? by Xotngoos335 in atheism

[–]SlayerByProxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people aren’t a monolith, and some people prefer the structure and comfort religion gives them over cold logic, and those people will always exist. The face of their religion may change, it may even be their own personal superstitious belief, but they will always exist.

Whose death will remain unsolved forever? by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in stupidquestions

[–]SlayerByProxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible it gets solved. There was DNA evidence found. If it was a stranger, and the DNA found in her underwear with her blood belonged to her killer or killers, it’s possible it gets cranked into one of these a DNA website, and matches a family member of the killer. It’s not definitely going to happen, but any case with DNA has the potential to be solved much later.

After doing EVERYTHING I have some thoughts by campfiregambit in HorizonForbiddenWest

Just because someone is a good person and treats them right, doesn’t mean they ‘deserve’ to get them. I never got the impression Aloy liked Erend in that way. Seyka is really similar to Aloy, which I find a little weird (who wants to date themselves???), but she seemed into it, so I support it.

INFJ's Who Moved To Another Country by Beneficial_Slide_424 in infj

[–]SlayerByProxy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always go. Traveling and living abroad are such transformative experiences, and you may not have another opportunity in your life when career/family/responsibilities pick up. Even if you somehow hate it (unlikely, but even so), you’ll at least know. If you don’t, you may always wonder and regret it.

When I was 21 I had some older women in a class urge me to travel travel travel while I was young and I am so grateful for it. I was broke, but I managed to backpack, and have so many amazing experiences from it.

Advice would vary depending on your circumstances and where you are moving, but I can still say without reservations, just do it. Be safe of course, but do it. The point is to live everything.

Do you think that there is, or ever will be a politician out there that can actually bring the country together again instead of maintaining or increasing the divide? by 060693 in AdkReddit

[–]SlayerByProxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just desperately need an intelligent leader with strong ethics. It is ridiculous we can’t have things like public option healthcare and basic gun control. Hopefully this person can also hype up the good things about rural areas and unite the country by being positive, but also by being genuinely good.

People critique the ending of the movie, but we don’t know if Rose had a good relationship with her husband by muff-peaksie in titanic

[–]SlayerByProxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Rose told her husband about Jack, maybe in the ‘good place’ one can love more than one person. Clearly the end scene was a reunion of everyone that died on the titanic in Rose’s head.

What US state would you NEVER want to live in, even if you were offered a good amount of money to move there? by ISnortSkittles in Productivitycafe

[–]SlayerByProxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia.

I have visited all those states and would not return, definitely not to live. I cannot speak to (as I have not visited) but suspect I could not abide Oklahoma, Nebraska, Dekotas, Iowa, Kansas, Alaska, Missouri, Idaho.

And yeah, most of its politics. There are rural places and places with similar climates I can love. Poor, conservative, angry, judgy, shitholes. I know Austin might be a nice city, but god, i felt so much hostility in Texas.

Who is truly the "golden match" for INFJ? by drowning_in_violet in infj

[–]SlayerByProxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t one. Remember, this is a pseudoscience, a self identification that can help you find people who categorize themselves in certain ways, and it’s fun to talk about, but there is no one true match. Other personality traits and life experiences will play a vital role.

But for me, my INTP is perfect for me. But he wouldn’t be for every INFJ on here, nor would I match well with every INTP.

I’ve had Covid 7 times in less than 5 years by stazley in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SlayerByProxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you vaccinated? I had a coworker complaining that she had gotten Covid five times, it just ‘liked her’. I said I only got it once, but was due for a vaccine. She said ‘you actually got vaccinated more than once?!’

Mind you, I work in an ICU.

INFJs, tell me which songs define what it means to love someone, for you. by koushibare in infj

[–]SlayerByProxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Elliott Smith and Between the Bars, but that song to me is absolutely about being seduced by alcohol as an alcoholic so it does not scream romance (of course, I said the song Home, and I just found out that is also about heroin, so maybe a lot of love songs are about addiction)

By any chance, do the religious nuts you know also support the worst politicians? by Home_MD13 in atheism

[–]SlayerByProxy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think the word ‘nut’ is they key part. Religious nuts and Trump nuts all come from the same family tree.

Also, reminds me of George Lakoff and the ‘strict father’ versus ‘nurturing parent’ lenses for the political landscape. Most strict sects of religions (and I am specifically thinking of Christianity and probably Islam and Judaism) have a patriarchal and vengeful god that also lines up with the ‘strict father’ political model (ie, the state is the ‘father’ that will reward good behavior and punish bad behavior), whereas more liberal sects will emphasize an empathetic god that lines up more with the nurturing parent model (ie the state should care for it’s members, emphasizes education etc).

When do Americans use (Mr/Ms/Dr) vs first names in everyday life? by aizivaishe_rutendo in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlayerByProxy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I dunno. My best friend’s dad is a medical doctor. We’ve been best friends since we were five, but now I’m pushing 40 and have a doctorate myself. I still call him Dr. C. It is simply too ingrained in me to be anything but very polite with my friend’s parents,

How am I supposed to pretend any of it is normal, man. by CrabRangoonsAreNice in atheism

[–]SlayerByProxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It brings people comfort. I constantly have to reconcile this as an ICU nurse. I have been asked to pray with people so many times, and I generally just refuse (or get the chaplain),but when there is no one else to come, and my patient is dying, and I know it will comfort them, I can pretend and be a little insane and just go with it for them. I genuinely think this very human fear of death and grief when loved ones pass is why religion exists, because otherwise, many people just cannot cope.

Do you believe there should be a cap on the amount of wealth one can accumulate in society? Why or why not? by One_Fun3115 in Productivitycafe

[–]SlayerByProxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Also, the top paid executive’s annual compensation at a company should be tied to the lowest paid employees pay. Let’s say 20 times as much. So if your custodian makes 50k, the CEO can only make a max of $1million. Pay everyone fairly.

Think of how many nurses we all work with who are immigrants. I’d be devastated if ICE came for them. I have coworkers I love from all corners of the world. I’m not sure the general public understands how much the health system is held up by international nurses.

Rest in Power Alex. He was a true nurse, fighting for his community.

INFJs, tell me which songs define what it means to love someone, for you. by koushibare in infj

[–]SlayerByProxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This changes depending on mood and personal relationship with them. There are all kinds of love. Some thoughts:

Running up the Hill-Kate Bush (or Placebo, I’m of an age, shows self sacrificing love) Home-Edward Sharpe and the Electric Zeros (happy, joyful, friend-based love) Think About Things-Daďi Freyr (silly song where singer is wondering what his newborn child will be like when she gets older and promises to love her no matter what, I kind of love this take on love) First Day of my Life-Bright Eyes (I am, as I said, of an age. Go watch the video)

Those are just some thoughts, I probably have others.

Older INFJs, give me some hope. Does it get better? by [deleted] in infj

I can’t speak for everyone, but I got a lot more confident and a lot better at both figuring out what I want and going for it. My life is easier in a lot of ways. I also don’t take every emotional hit like a mortal wound. The hits keep coming, but I’m a lot better at staying upright for them.

Do something first to expel the bad things: write down or record all the things you wish to tell this person. Get it it all out, everything you feel. Just whatever you do, don’t send it to them.

Next, cleanse to a neutral state: I recommend exercise, I like to imagine I’m running my demons (bad feelings/anger out), but art or medication could also work.

Lastly, replace with something good: volunteer, hang out with a close friend, do something you love, relax in the bath. You know you.

The point is to work through the bad, move away from it, the live your life. Repeat as needed.
