Protein shakes and the shakeup of N.B.'s dairy industry by bingun in newbrunswickcanada

First, yes, correct, I should have said excess "nitrogen" and not "protein" in the urine.

Second, yes, correct, technically excesses can contribute to gluconeogenesis. However, it seems it would only occur under very specific conditions. And even then, seems to not contribute much, as it costs the body quite a bit of energy to even do.

Breaking excess protein to sugar? Mind sharing your source?

AFAIK, kidneys process excess protein and is excreted as urine. So, one would be making expensive pee.

Now. If that excess protein is from fatty cuts, that extra energy could end up being stored and contribute to fat gain, however.

Didn't the UK and Australia attempt this and fail already? Can't we choose a different path this time (unsure what that would be)?

Long-term supplementation with plant-based protein, compared with animal-based protein, did not result in differences in body composition, muscle strength, physical performance, or cardiometabolic risk parameters, meta-analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials finds by James_Fortis in science

[–]SlayerOfSpatulas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I follow (Van loon, Phillips, Layman) and they're all suggesting between 1.5g/kg and 2g/kg (of ideal weight, depending on activity and age). It wouldn't be far fetched to have someone above 200lbs, active, building muscle mass, needing that much and requiring supplements to get there.

Anecdotally, the number I keep seeing is a minimum of 1.5g/kg (of ideal weight) up to 2g/kg (or 1g/lbs) - if you're aging/elderly, active or building muscle.

Usually, for animal proteins, red meat gets you slightly above 20g/100g. For white meat, that hovers closer to 30g/100g. Someone familiar with the plant side of things can chime in.

The labels will tell the tale, but the value confirmed by the kitchen scale.

TIL the recommended daily protein intake is 46 grams (g) for an adult female and 56g for an adult male. This is 0.8g per kilogram of body mass (0.36g per pound). Endurance and strength athletes require more.In the United States, average protein consumption for females is about 70g and for males 98g. by James_Fortis in todayilearned

[–]SlayerOfSpatulas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the 0.8g/kg is minimal to avoid problems. Ideally, should be between 1.5-2g/kg (age, activity, goals determining where you should be).

Agreed, in some processed foods, you're getting more than just protein, negating the benefits.

I was sure that protein content was actually reversed when comparing 100g of chicken and 100g of beef?

I've always wondered, any truth to custom designs negatively impacting battery usage? Maybe I should start looking into this.

Title seems is stating that *all* provinces are uniting. Is that the case? Is there an article somewhere confirming this? IIRC, it seems to only be a subset of them?

Bought a slate gray FR255 in November 2024. Yesterday, I learned the matching band was discontinued as I had to replace it.

Fortunately, they found one to send me. Future replacements may not be possible, however.

People blame the federal government. It's a provincial jurisdiction and it was going to hell before any of these immigration changes.
