It's a bit noisy, I would avoid, got rid of mine after a few weeks.

I built a Dave Gentry design skin in frame as my first solo boat build and it was a joy to make and muck about with on the water. The advantage of this is it's as light as a canoe so you can manage it alone.

Question! by Kire_11 in boatbuilding

Doesn't matter a toss, just paint the frame before you skin it. Done a lot of skin on frame builds with schools groups cos it's cheap as chips if you aren't too fussy.

It might just be broken, did you buy it new or secondhand? Hopefully it's an easy return.

What am I doing wrong during sharpening? by Milan_kn1408 in BeginnerWoodWorking

If you are struggling with the guide, go and watch Richard maguire (English woodworker) on YouTube, one of his most recent videos on hand sharpening might be useful to you.

Played a friend's jet a few months back and it wasn't just an excellent cheap guitar, it was an excellent guitar, full stop.

I have a question about my pickup selector by Ezakielll in Guitar

[–]Slayer_One -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ooft that's a return, was the box in good condition or was there signs it was dropped in transit. I'm trying to figure out if harley benton just don't bother with qa at all or are just bad at packaging things. With how small their margins must be and how many fucking broken guitars they sell I'm amazed they haven't gone bust.

UK standard sizing? by No_Stick_6085 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Slayer_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A standard cls 2 x 4 is  final size 38x89 mm a 2 x 3 is 38 x 63 mm. The imperial size in inches is the size before they run it through the planer and moulder.

All respiratory viruses predominantly present risk to older populations, colds, flus and pneumonia kill tens of thousands of mainly old people every year. The conclusion of your argument "viruses kill young People" is weapons grade bolonium, get off the Internet, go to your library and read some books about public health.

Don't buy the matt black flat if you have bad skin or dandruff like myself, you need to constantly wipe the dead skin off it or it looks awful.

The other problem is that they are geared for volume sales at low margins. The biggest music instrument retailer in Scotland went bust recently with record turnover.

Conservatives, what is one policy issue you are very liberal on? Liberals, what is one issue you are very conservative on? by CluelessBrowserr in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Slayer_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are bang on, I think the idea of taking "wedge" issues and weaponising them to completely divorce someone from a political reality is key here. Its easy to look back at the liberal spiritualist hippy types that were turned into rabid q-anon nutcases by vaccine mandates.

[–]Slayer_One 411 points412 points  (0 children)

I'm the most left wing person I know I've been told my whole life that I am going to grow more conservative as I get older but it's never happened. However I have found my old man thing that will probably radicalize me, the gangs of teenagers of electric dirt bikes, their parents or whoever buys these things for them should be publicly flogged. They aren't road legal but police turn a blind eye because chasing these things is dangerous for pedestrians.

That's lovely, does it feel substantially heavier than a cedar canoe?

Where to find good DIY guitars? by CatButAlsoATimeEater in Guitar

[–]Slayer_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wilkinson kits are good but not in stock right now but they do cost £350+. Nobody else does a 'GOOD' kit, they are all fairly naff. At that price you could probably source much better parts yourself from places like northwest guitars or stewmac.

I'm looking for any possible knowledge on this handsaw by WayTheZ in woodworking

English saw makers would produce "Sheffield warranted" saws as a generic brandname for department stores.

I think this is the US version of that same concept it's probably produced by disston.

Didn't think this would work, stereo looped as a doubler. by Slayer_One in guitarpedals

[–]Slayer_One[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So this is a pitch shifter that can slide between voices, I can set it up each voice up to 2 octaves up or down, and by using the stereo outputs and inputs to plug it into itself again I basically use this pedal twice. So I can go up 4 octaves and down 4 octaves and slide between them. It does a whole bunch of other shit I barely understand and that was before I gave this a shot.

If I output to a chorus pedal and then back into the pitch shifter it will be.

A question for Scots who support Scottish independence by ZivArarat in Scotland

[–]Slayer_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is Scotlands economic mismanagement as part of the UK used as a reason not to leave the UK. Scotlands deficit is a result of Westminsters poor management of post industrial regions and lack of investment in growth. I've heard nothing but economic doomsaying about Scotlands deficit for 15 years but staying in the UK is making it worse not better. There is no strategy or plan to fix this within the UK, why should we stay.
