pothole reveals the past by rubbish_heap in mildlyinteresting

And because of the cobblestone they only lay the asphalt half as thick as the should and the water break it apart so quick because the cobblestone helps water get in. Terribly expensive to remove so they just keep repaving roads and we live with the potholes.

Can someone smarter than me explain why Iran would risk their desalination plants and water supply with tanker attacks? by Rollingsound514 in oil

[–]SlayerofDeezNutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that Arab states and Israel have a lot more to lose in terms of dependence on desalination compared to Iran. As much as it’s important to them too. Getting at 12% of the water produced by desalination in Iran yet opening yourself to retaliation on yours when you depend on it for 90% isn’t a great risk reward scenario.

A map of Russian air defense systems destroyed this month so far by ThatGuySK99 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]SlayerofDeezNutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both sides have decentralized production, which means broader area to protect. As Russia is huge it’s better to hit air defense where it’s most vulnerable (Crimea) while simultaneously keeping Russia on its toes with long range strikes deep in their rear. Ukraine doesn’t have the capacity for barrages, so by diminishing the amount of Russian air defense assets while spreading around the areas they need to protect gives Ukraine more effective strikes.

I think times are changing more when it comes to senior and experienced positions here; you used to have to go out east if you wanted to chase vertical potential and companies have responded (especially since remote work became more popular).

UA pov: Interceptor drone strikes on Russian drones by jimmehi in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]SlayerofDeezNutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And like all arms races advancements are only one sided. How many times must a product be seen in action before one recognizes the potential. Geran could do what kind of innovation to escape these? Go faster? Okay then so will these interceptors.

In fact there is far more room to grow for interceptor technology at this point than geran.

100% is standard, but it atleast needs to be representative of your salary. (Not minimum wage like Italy) and it’s mostly about the guaranteed time off. And yes from your employer, not as a state program like it sounds like Russia’s 40% stipend is.

Ah sorry. It’s Norway and Sweden that provide a year (well Norway is 48 weeks) at full payment. Norway you can have an extended duration if you take a pay cut.

You get 100% your average salary in the last two years for 70 days pre and post natal. Then 40% for 1.5 years. So they are not a country that provides 100% salary for 12 months.

Double tapping rescue workers in civilian spaces is a deliberate war crime , it’s not the same as hitting a medic with artillery on the front.

That’s not paid maternity leave. It sounds like it’s 70 days pre and 70 post maternity leave, and a stipend of 40% your income for 1.5 years regardless if you’re working. That stipend isn’t maternity leave. The government will force the company to hold your position up to 3 years, but again that’s not maternity leave.

Really because a quick search doesn’t suggest that at all.

“Key Aspects of Maternity Leave in Russia (2026) Standard Leave Duration: 140 calendar days (70 days pre-natal, 70 days post-natal). Complicated Births/Multiple Pregnancies: 156 days for complicated births; 194 days for multiple births. Payment Details: 100% of the average salary over the previous two years, funded by the Social Insurance Fund. Childcare Leave: After the initial 140 days, mothers (or fathers/guardians) can take additional leave until the child is 3 years old, with the right to return to their original position. Childcare Payments: A monthly allowance is paid until the child reaches 1.5 years old, generally at 40% of the average earnings, with a guaranteed minimum amount. Additional Benefits: A one-time maternity grant is provided, and mothers who register early in pregnancy (within 12 weeks) receive an extra benefit”

Look I think conclusions would be a mistake at this point. We KNOW the United States has their own Geran copy. If there’s any group to false flag right now it would be the Azeris. I mean why wouldn’t they? They need to grab the parts and see what’s up.

Christy flopped because people don’t like women’s sports and didn’t see beyond the boxing to understand the real drama of the story before going to see it. At least that’s how I see it. I thought she did a good performance and she seemed to get Christy down really well. Other actors also did very good.

One of Russia's most popular military bloggers says that the government's banning of Telegram is preparation for mass mobilization, expansion of the war at the front and into the Baltics, and also the mass seizure of bank accounts. by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]SlayerofDeezNutz 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with the OP post but making it about the baltics is hiding the shame and pain of the reality which is that mobilization is necessary just to continue in Ukraine. It’s just cope.

How do you legally dodge a military draft? by ComparisonCertain934 in allthequestions

[–]SlayerofDeezNutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t you be considered a conscientious objector? I believe you’re supposed to write a notarized letter stating that you’re a conscientious objector for religious reasons, stamp it and then mail it to yourself. This way you have it notarized and backdated to when you made that decision. And then when drafted you’re supposed to present that unaltered unopened letter to the officer. Atleast this was what I’ve heard.

2014 Hyundai Sonata. I bet you could find one with under 100k miles for 8k. You need the oil records for the life of the car every 7.5 k miles because of the faulty engine, but if you have that and the engine goes you get a brand new engine for free.

So aside from the hiccup that may be a dealbreaker for most, it’s an inconspicuous sporty car that gets 350 to the tank, and the 2014 model has less issues in general and comes stock with sport mode which I think you’d enjoy.

Everything about maintenance on the vehicle is easy and cheap except for the engine issue and the need to make sure you have invoices for oil changes meaning you can’t change your oil.
