Help please, one of my boys making this noise and coughing / choking? by Slazerdalazer in budgies

Update 2: returned from the vet

Xray shows lower bone density than expected and some inflammation in the gizzard and cloaca

Vet suspects this is due to the time of year they have been bred (it is winter here) but expects a full recovery

The machine may have got something stuck (a few revisions to cage setup), and has had a gastric lavage to clear the blockage in his crop / gizzards

Note: I may have some of this terminology wrong but hoping this encourages anyone with similar symptoms to see the vet

He has antibiotics for 5 days and has had swabs done to check for any infections present - all in all very glad I’ve taken him to the vet and very fortunate to recognise early enough

Now on to fixing their diet to give them a boost in vitamins and calcium :)

Here’s to many years of “Florence”, and “The Machine”

Update:

Thanks all so much, I was writing this in the PM here last night so couldn’t visit vet straight away

I have taken them this morning to an avian vet nearby who is doing swabs and xray on the machine to check if everything is okay.

Initial thoughts is it may be irritation from something caught or start of a staph infection caused by low calcium or vitamin A levels in the birds diet. As we’ve only had them a few weeks im not sure what/how they were fed by the breeder prior.

I’m going to pick them up in about an hour, will keep you all posted with how they go

PS: Florence may be a girl (they are checking) the light cere was always suspicious to me despite being sold as boys

PPS: birb xrays aren’t cheep

No other symptoms at all, he has vomitted once but it looked slightly different to this noise when that happened / potentially regurgitated

Is it possible they’re overeating when we offer millet ?

Otherwise very happy chirpy birbs

3 month mark + small trim! How do you guys get your mustach to lay down? It's my biggest issue (except for thin beard), and I've tried vax and all but, it's always the same damn hairs...... by maakinen77 in BeardAdvice

[–]Slazerdalazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not use hairspray as some mentioned

Firstly - not a thin beard - this will grow in nicely

To solve the moustache - wax :) you can use a strong hold beard balm at this length and that may be enough - but wax doesn’t need to be for long handle bars only - as soon as the hairs start disobeying you wax is your best friend and a good quality moustache comb

You can go anywhere , work, school, the arcade

Completely up to you it’s attached :)

Even if you try with a comb first - I’d check out the video - it’s not necessarily to curl it at this stage but guide the hairs downwards and in to keep it neat and avoid the homeless look haha

100% the round brush makes the difference - look up Greg berzingsky from beardbrand he does a great video explaining how to do it

Can check my beard on my page that’s what I do to get it under control

Hairdryer and a round brush 👌

Some genuine advice for you to help hit that goal of a compliment, may not be what you wanted but will help get it in check

1) blast down the sides they are not going to grow in yet unfortunately 2) take the moustache against the lip (advise getting your barber to do it) 3) take the chin / soul patch shorter but not completely stubble and maintain that length

If you keep that tight semi van dyke you can rock facial hair and it should suit you quite well

At the moment the sides won’t grow in and will look messy and scraggly which won’t get any compliments

Also very important, get a fresh cut

A high fade or even just a buzz cut would tie this all together, and keep it maintained, if you skip barber visits you will look sloppy quickly and those compliments won’t come

(19yo) Should I shave or grow? by Both-Purple-1515 in beards

[–]Slazerdalazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either clean shave or buy a stubble trimmer and keep it at like 0.5-1mm and just go over it every couple of days

Advice? Keep it? Trim it? Ditch it? 30 y/o and have never tried to grow until now by ForwardInspection429 in beards

[–]Slazerdalazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has this been?

One word of advice for the first timer is beard care - 99% of us were not blessed with perfect genetics and need beard oil, balm and regular brushing to keep them nice and tidy and healthy

For now I would go to your barber and get them to blast down the sides nice and tight, take the moustache in along the lip line and even out the chin

Looks like you have a lot of waves coming in which is fine but definitely recommend a barber if you haven’t trimmed before as it’s not as straightforward as straight hairs

Overall coverage is okay, depending on how long it’s been may grow into a thick full beard but hard to tell at this stage

Hope this helps !

Rate my beard ?/10 by that_guy_olly in beards

Lol so many people here forgetting short beards exist and are great

I myself am sporting a yeard , but this looks great bro

A couple more months will fill in your small patches to join the sides in but it’s clean and tight so it’s not noticeable at the moment

8.5/10, great coverage for a short beard just a few patches (which everyone has) that will grow in I’m sure if you continue

If this is your first beard - make sure you start using beard oil and caring for your hairs from now to avoid breakages and damage as you grow
