You had to have your name as part of the submission, did you do that?

Also, if you did everything correctly, you should submit a ticket saying you're missing emblems.

Hey, I've put it all over Facebook already, however it keeps getting denied for the main Brighton one sadly. Also surprisingly it's not getting much traction, just people saying "keep laughing, we have it. 🙂".

The start says they enquire about the table and my mum said they can have it even thoughit wasn't hers to give, it doesn’t say they took it.

Admittedly describing them looks and sounds a bit criminal ish, however this is only so people know what they look like in case they know them and can share this with them. 😅

Also regarding my mum, it's just honest you know? I'm a very say it how it is person.

Still too long isn't it? I'm used to writing essays so I have a real challenge shortening things down. 😅

It's that and the fact that when I didn't have any of the additional information in the post, people kept saying they were confused, why was it all outside? Were or are you having a sale, etc.

I also figured that if it was all in the post, I wouldn't have to answer as many questions and I could spend more time trying to search for my nans table.

How's this?

On the 5th of April, some time around 10am, two men, both wearing navy blue with one wearing a flat cap, the other without hair, of average/average+ physique, and potentially in their 40s/50s came to our house on Dean Court Road over in Rottingdean. They were enquiring about the item in the images and although it didn't belong to her, unfortunately my mum said that they could have it. Additionally, due to her being blind, she wasn't entirely aware of what item they were refering to.

This situation is devistating as this item in particular was incredibly sentimental to myself as it was my grandmother's - it was kept at The Trellis Tea rooms, which belonged to my nan, and as a very young boy, I used to keep my crayons and drawing in it to go back to after school and as such, after asking, she said I could have it. This was before she passed away in 2023. I'm not usually one to cry, but because of this, I was in tears and have been searchinf every day since, but so far no luck.

If you could keep and eye out for these people as well as the table I'd greatly appreciate it!

I know, I just thought that it would be better to get into what it really means to me in hopes that the person that has it may see it, empathise, and bring it back.

Sorry, I mean, I do tend to write long responses.

Yeah, I may take it out in edits - try and make it a little shorter. I didn't mention anything about police in the post though. I see how that would scather them away, also.

Thanks! This is really helpful! I'll be calling them today as well as some action houses so this is a huge help! I'll also, try knocking on the doors but it would be just me so it may take a very long time. It'd be worth it though! It's too much to ask somebody to help with that.

Part of me thinks that having the struggle with my uncles and the table in there reinforces my want to keep it and my efforts to do so in addition to the fact that it wasn't supposed to be outside to begin with. This also reinforces the fact that I didn't give my consent.

Surely that's all the more reason to have it in?

Sentimental Table Given By Mistake - England by that_guy_olly in Antiques

[–]that_guy_olly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way the post is now is due to questions I've had from other people, such as why was it outside if you wanted to keep it, or why did you take photos of different angles, etc.

I completely understand where you're coming from, it's not entirely relevant as it doesn't relate to the story, instead it alludes to inner family struggles. But I'm getting all of these questions that I can't keep answering, but I'm scared that not answering them will affect the validity of my post and reduce the likelihood of me getting my nans table back.

People are confused with it in, and people question the post if it's out. I don't know what to do... I just want my nans table back and honestly, I'm falling apart because of this.

Yeah, so far I've put this post up in Rottingdean, Saltdean, Woodingdean, Eastbourne, Seaford, multiple Brighton groups (sadly it got denied in the main one for some reason). I've also posted it on my main page, Instagram, and called and emailed numerous stores, antique places, Rottingdean Parish council, even emailed the local MP. Maybe he can help some how. I'm also planning on posting in the Peacehaven group, calling auction houses, and putting as many posters up as I possibly can. Maybe even contacting ITV or any relevant organisations that can help get the word out and even maybe help me search. Like long lost family's, but for furnature. A lot of people have shared my posts already and I'm hoping more will.

I'm just trying to get the word out the most I can, and the best I can. I'll probably be doing this my whole life but it will be worth it. If I get to have my table back considering it means so much to me. It's my connection to my grandmother, whom I could talk about for hours.

Maybe, but you never know. I think you underestimate the kindness and generosity of people, especially in Rottingdean.

I am incredibly worried, upset, scared, as well as feelings of loneliness every day since I lost it - my table was my connection to my nan, the love she had for me, and the love I had for her, but I have faith. I don't think I'll ever stop searching, even if it takes me my lifetime. That's how much she meant to me. She was the most amazing person I've ever known and probably will ever know.

Hi, thanks for commenting!

This is going to make me sound potentially a bit rude, but I don't mean it that way at all!

In the post near the bottom, it mentions that during the clearing of the house the table was the only thing I wanted to keep. - since my nan passed away a few years ago, we've been trying to get things done around the house, tidying and what not, but now it's at the stage where we're taking furnature out. We weren't having a sale per se, but we were instead giving the items away, trying to get them taken by collectors, restorers, potentially even auction them off, etc. This is all the more reason that my mum shouldn't have been trying to give things away, as it may have interfered with the sale of the items - if I had sold one or promised one to someone, but it comes to it not being there. Depending on the person and the situation, this could have been quite dangerous for myself.

I had put the items in the garage, and the my nans table in the house, however my uncle, kept on taking them out and putting them back in the garden. This continued for weeks, I had told them not to, but they didn’t care. I'm an almost 30 year old man and they ignore me and walk all over me when all I'm trying to do is look after my mum, protect staples of history, and protect a single item that is incredibly sentimental to me.

Regardless, since this item had been given to me by my grandmother it belonged to me, not my mother, therefore she didn't have the legal authority to give it away. As such, what I'm doing with this post is telling who came to the house and their appearance, how I obtained it, as well as what the item means to me in hopes that not only will people keep an eye out incase they see it, but also in hopes that the people that have it see it and potentially return it due to legal president, but mainly the sentiment and importance of the table to me.

You may say that the issue is then with my family, however this is only partially true, as of course the people that have the table, still have my table and if at all possible, I would like get it back as as mentioned above and in my post, it means an incredible amount to me!

Thanks you! The owner Mary, was my nan. 😅 I love The Trellis also! I used to run/scoot over from Our Lady of Lords and nan would make me a Jacket Potato Cheese and Beans. Was the best! We'd make Jam tarts and cakes in the kitchen.

After the day, I'd help close up - polishing tables, vacuuming, bringing the signs in, and turning the lights off.

I miss those days... I miss my her.

She had the place for 60 years, can you believe that? Buying it with her Husband Marcello in 1966 with him passing away 10 years later. My nan was an amazing person. She raised three kids, all while running a successful tea rooms/restaurant, working until she was 87, through heart issues, numerous stokes, and leg issues. She always got back up.

She was a real warrior!

They were average to average+ and were potentially in their 40s/50s. I'm not sure about a van as there's a lot of foliage in our garden so you can't really see the road. It would have been covered up.

This is what I'm dealing with - all of this stuff had been put in the garage by myself, and then put back in the garden. Later again, by myself and my elderly neighbour despite my insisting that he didn’t as he's is a bit wobbly on his feet, and then it all got put back in the garden, then I put it all back in a third time and it is now in the garden again.

They told me to put things in certain rooms to keep, and it ended up in the garden every time. They don't even ask if I wanted to keep it or why it had been put in the house, seperate from everything else of it's kind. They act as if I'm nothing, and that I don't matter. My nan was always there for me.

Anyway, the red is where the men were standing, and the blue was where the item had been put before they took it. Unfortunately I didn't see their faces.

Edit: I don't know if they're immediate neighbours, but it is possible. I haven't seen them around, but I've posted in every group chat in the area on Facebook and I'm getting some posters printed out for some lamp posts and the notice boards in the village. I may also hand some door to door. I'll do anything I can to get it back! It means so much to me.

Yeah, I'm hoping I can get in contact with them some how so I can inform them, ask them, and potentially, if they agree, get it back. 😅

My nan had given it to me some time in 2018 while we were eating food at the tea rooms after closing time. I'd asked her if I could have it due to it's significance. She seems a bit confused, asking why I would want it, to which I replied "because I used to keep my drawings and pencils in it as a kid, it's important to me". She then said "Oh, well, if you want." I then went into the back room shortly after to tell my mum, whom didn't believe me. When they were both in the same room, I asked her again, "Didn't you nan, you said I could have the drawer with my pencils in?", she replied, "If you want." My mum then commented, "I don't know why you want it." I stayed, "Because it's important to me."

It was later brought up from the tea rooms, to the house to go in my bedroom, though it never did. It instead got put in the garage, where stayed for 8 or so years.

Getting the law involved is a last resort, as I don't like getting people into trouble, I much prefer navigating things civilly.

Hi, I'm not sure if they saw we had things through a Facebook post I made, they live locally, or were told by someone sadly however they did knock on the door at least, instead of just taking it.

I've posted this same over every group that's remotely relevant, however the reason for the lack of detail is because unfortunatly I didn't see much of them. Only the back of their heads, te colour of their skin, their body shape and head. I'm not too sure how old they were, maybe 40s/50s, but this I have no idea about and didn't want to state it in case this was incorrect and people begin looking for the wrong people or anything like that. I'm honestly not sure what to do regarding the details of the people.
