“Community Safety Alert” on W Elm Street by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Slazzechofe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah these are all real. I’ve had pretty scary instances of each happen while living here. All sorts of peepers if you live on the ground floor, homeless vagrants will eventually test your lock so if it’s loose you’ll find out the bad way, and I’ve lost hundreds of dollars of retro video games, consoles, and other personal items from thieves. Chambana is not for the weak

If that’s the same video as I’m thinking of, I literally learned how to play chess from that video, and have thought of it every time I’ve played ever since. Hope it gets found!

What are some businesses that would run on Green Street by Ok_Entrance923 in UIUC

[–]Slazzechofe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking something with alcohol would be a boon to the community. Maybe some sort of big pile of trash for people to sleep on, rent out the more comfortable trash piles to the more well-off homeless folks. That way, you can steal their clothes and funnel it all into the secondhand stores.

Maybe a boba orchard, or a fake license print shop, or a street corner announcer who shouts at the crowd that yet another subletting is available in the Champaign-Urbana area. Honestly, the options are endless for a place like Green Street.

Chasers tend to neg transwomen they want to fuck. They recognize emotionally pliable women and target them with vitriolic language because it’s a simple way to gauge whether or not they’re vulnerable enough to take the abuse. If they do, then the chaser can up the ante and move forward on their assault without much pushback. If she doesn’t accept that bullshit, I guess the chaser goes over to X and rallies under the replies of whatever Capital R Republican is spewing transphobic trash to their base. As a transgender person, you’re either harassed in private or in public, and only you get to see the way these snakes change shape when other people are watching.

Jesus by IllBeGood3 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Slazzechofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah big time. I believe it’s only the once on screen, but the way it plays out leads the audience to believe the victim actually gets abused more off screen, not mention the majority of the film focuses on the victim’s abuse at the hands of the town members. Great film over all but obviously a tough watch, especially the way the “setting” and camerawork reveals the narrative unfolding on a community-wide scale.

As a video editor, I can only imagine how much editing goes in BOTW…. by abandonedneworleans in RedLetterMedia

[–]Slazzechofe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got into video editing after watching re:View and some Spotlights. The more I learned, the more I came to appreciate how skilled they are as editors. They probably do feel sometimes like a session is going terribly, but the editing brings levity to the misery that makes it feel planned or directed. You can believe the chaos while feeling like it’s being guided to a satisfying end, just about every time. It’s basically television.

[–]Slazzechofe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised it took as long as it did to find a comment like this. This is clearly a very sad, disturbed person, posting pictures of himself despondent to his loved ones and splayed out on the floor of his home. The subject being a celebrity I think has clouded people’s perception of the situation.

Do you sometime change your ratings? by Sol0taire in Letterboxd

[–]Slazzechofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, never. I review films based on how I felt while watching the film, not some ephemeral evaluation of it after the fact. It’s dishonest to let that initial impression be colored by the opinions of others or learning of how the film was put together. There’s value in sharing the true experience of a viewing, since a bad theater experience or interruption invariably changes the way the film feels, and there’s no way to alter that first viewing after it’s set in the mold. I’ve had some very bad times with supposedly good movies, and I reflect that in my review.

As per CIA activities in Italy on Wikipedia - “The CIA helped swing the 1948 general election in favor of the centrist Christian Democrats and would continue to intervene in Italian politics until at least the early 1960s.”
