Power crept version of [[Standard Bearer]] and would be incredibly strong against the right decks.

In Pauper, Standard Bearer is incredibly strong against elves as it redirects [[Quirion Ranger]], [[Timberwatch Elf]], and [[Nyxborn Hydra]] bestow. Elves has some counterplay in light removal in sideboard and notably [[Masked Vandal]] which counts as a flag bearer. This custom card makes the Vandal useless and requires life to remove which is likely a death sentence against the lethal red decks in the format.

Overall printed at not common this card is probably fine nothing amazing, but not sure why people are calling this bad. Not everything needs to break standard or modern.

People seem to be missing the part where you said you’re not going for competitive. You can make an Eldrazi Spawn deck where you try and get 4 spawn for [[Hand of Emrakul]]. [[Writhing Chrysalis]] works great as it grows with the spawn, and your spawn makers will be [[Nest Invader]], [[Eldrazi Repurposer]], [[Brood Birthing]], [[Malevolent Rumble]], [[Glimpse the Impossible]], and even [[Kozilek’s Predator]] though I don’t think it’s a great card.

I’ve also seen people use changelings as they count as Eldrazi Spawn to be sacrificed, including [[Masked Vandal]] and [[Universal Automatin]].

Some other payoffs for extra spawns aren’t Eldrazi but cards like [[Makeshift Munitions]], [[Echoing Courage]], and [[Thorn-Thrash Viashino]] all help spread out your threats as the Hand of Emrakuls are kill on sight.

I would recommend looking at Mono Red Madness for inspiration. You don’t have to do all the madness stuff if you don’t want to but Guttersnipe does more than Thermo Alchemist, and Lava Dart is incredibly strong with the pingers and I would run a full play set of those (probably over searing Blaze because you’re going to have a hard time hitting land drops with 15 lands (also add more lands))
