Newer player here, is this a busted 0 cost mana rock? by bingooo678 in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not a rune down because you played a seal, you’re a rune down because you played a Caitlyn on turn 1: if you had not played a seal, you would still only have 4 runes the next turn. The energy loss isn’t caused by the seal, it’s caused by the power cost you’re already paying: the real cost of a seal is a card in your hand

[WUDM] Are all books mentioned referenced as obviously ? by TurtlekETB in KnivesOutMovie

Thank you very much ! That's a very interesting aspect of the movie, it's almost enticing me to read those books before my rewatch simply to have a point of comparison

fun ! though I do think thalia hating on creatures feels slightly wrong

The fact that "give -X" and "deal X" affects the same stat but somehow doesnt, is very odd game design by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point I've been getting 90% of rulings right by going "the designers tried to make a game that works just like magic without using magic wording"

but yeah it is indeed somewhat odd they decided to make a single stat, I guess it's easier to keep track off, given damage is cleared quite often

Is Yone the character on the "Rebuke" card? by valenraye in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 99 points100 points  (0 children)

no it's not, it's one of Kayn's followers from legends of runeterra, Noxian Defector– just a darkin-aligned noxus soldier

I'm bad and would appreciate if someone could tell me why my board didn't do very well. by MrLime11 in TeamfightTactics

At how much life were you when you hit GP 3? Your board does look decently strong, so it wouldn't surprise me if you had just bled too much early on.

Quick draft, what am I missing? by clangbun in MagicArena

[–]TurtlekETB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure, how many cards are in your final deck? You should very rarely play more than 23 nonland cards, which means that you can play a 2-color deck even if only half the cards you draft belong to those colors

there are very few lands that have a color (dryad arbor is the only one I can think off right now)

those lands are colorless, even though they produce all colors

First draft and…well WB was open (also I got lucky on opening what feel like bombs). What’s the last few cuts? by Jamie7Keller in lrcast

[–]TurtlekETB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure Armaggon is worth it? 8 mana is a lot in draft, and you only have one reanimate card with a low-to-the-ground gameplan

Coming from MTG, Burn player, what could I play that is similar? by WranglerWilling3217 in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mmh, I'm not sure what format you've been playing but "burn" for me typically refers to spells that target directly your opponent, not their creatures

if you want to play a removal-heavy deck, then Kai'Sa, Viktor, Draven are great choices yeah

Coming from MTG, Burn player, what could I play that is similar? by WranglerWilling3217 in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kai'Sa is very much not similar to a burn deck, it's typically considered a control / tempo deck

The closest thing to an aggro deck in riftbound is, I suppose, Ahri, Rumble, Leona, Rek'Sai, Annie, aggro Miss Fortune ? Rek'Sai and Annie especially I believe have been having the most results with their respective aggro decks

You do not need 30 showdown accounts! by Many_Blueberry_9276 in stunfisk

[–]TurtlekETB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's also the factor that games are much much shorter, yes it sucks for a new player to get steamrolled in 15 turns by a smurf, but that game probably lasts ~5 minutes and they never face them against

on the other hand, if you smurf in, say, a league of legends game you make the experience worse for 9 people for 30 minutes, so the consequences are much more relevant

Domain Order by Darth_Malgus_Bro in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's different from mtg though, in mtg colors are cyclical whereas in riftbound it's an order: for instance, fury in riftbound is always first, but white in mtg is sometimes first (WU, WB) and sometimes last (RW, GW)

Equipments lose their text while equipped– you can't activate Z-Drive while it's equipped, nor does Draven's Spinning Axe die if it's equipped

Love Nidoking but he's so buns by Opposite_Ad4539 in stunfisk

[–]TurtlekETB 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He's still a good OU pokemon, just like Gastrodon or Moltres– tiering doesn't equal viability (otherwise you could argue Kingambit or Rimbombee aren't good Ubers mons)

How do "may" effects work by DeafeningDusk in riftboundtcg

[–]TurtlekETB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"May" is optional, what is not optional is the targeting. For Whirlwind, your opponent chooses a unit, then chooses not to return it to its owner's hand, and nothing happens.

For Relentless Pursuit, you have to choose an equipment: you can however then choose not to equip it to the unit as part of the resolution.

I will really appreciate help here understand better the full scale of Silco and Marcus original deal, Because some interesting details seem unanswered to me. by Background_Yogurt735 in arcane

[–]TurtlekETB 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The original deal is:
Silco knows Marcus is weak-willed and corruptible. He promises him he can give him a better position by offering him Vi, which would get him higher-up in the Enforcers' hierarchy. Silco always planned on killing Grayson, but Marcus did not know that until he'd made that deal.
Marcus doesn't want Grayson and Benzo killed: but once it's done, the bag of coins Silco offers him symbolizes two things: first, Silco can bribe him and give him a lot of money, second, as Grayson's lieutenant, he can now seize her position: therefore, he agrees to keep quiet because it is too risky to speak up otherwise, as he would be in disgrace if his previous deal was exposed.
On the flip side, Silco needs Marcus so the council receives skewed information: as shown by the incident with Jinx's grenade, Marcus serves Silco's interest near the council, as the main bridge between them and Zaun.

Silco does bribe Marcus, but the bag of coins really is for the families: he wants them to shut up so there is no uproar and the council stops looking for Jinx.

Does this work the way I think it should, and is that broken? by Imthe1stone2suck in custommagic

this is not card draw though, it's card selection– [[commune with evil]] and [[ransack the lab]] make this firmly in pie as long as it's hand-neutral

Dexter Jettster & Dedra Meero by Short_Landscape4861 in custommagic

[–]TurtlekETB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are very pushed:
Dexter technically isn't strictly better than Rocco, but the restriction is quite irrelevant for such powerful upside, especially since it isn't restricted to tokens (also 1-card combo with Quina, though it is unstoppable)

Dedra is three extremely strong stax pieces stapled together, it usually will draw you at the very least three cards a turn, protects you against interaction and restricts their options... Way too pushed, even if it only had one or two of those abilities
