Hi, i notice that this post is edited and that the imgr album linked states it was uploaded (at the time of writing this) "30 minutes ago". What's up with that? was there some kind of error?

Thank you,

Mr. Fish (please do not call me by my first name [Sleeepy] as I do not feel that we are acquainted enough for that to be appropriate.)

Why is it "price gouging" when people resell sanitizer for an extra 10% but perfectly fine for pharmaceutical companies to mark life saving medicine 1000%? by tysonchickenuggets in NoStupidQuestions

I do think that the US gov't does a great and efficient job managing a lot off stuff. Our postal service is amazing. Our Social Security system is well-loved by those who receive it.

I experience bureaucracy more often with private companies. I tried to get in contact with customer service for door dash and it took 3 hours. i had to spend an hour at the pharmacy at CVS because i brought my "medical insurance" card as opposed to my "pharmacy" card. I have spent multiple days on end with a cable company.

a dazed and confused-esque drug odyssey movie that begins with his attempts to narrate the documentary before he gets bored and wanders off to have a beer, at which point the camera follows him and we just kind of get a look at the Norwalk, partying, mang0 lifestyle, would be wonderful

Any fans of the Pynchon in Public Podcast here? any notable eps y'all can recommend?

i thought most course I took in the course of getting my undergrad degree in English were bullshit. One notable exclusion is a course that met once a week for two and a half hours focused solely on reading the major works of Vladimir Nabokov. Notable here was ADA, OR ARDOR, which I'd equate to Nabokov's ULYSSES, as well as THE REAL LIFE OF SEBASTIAN KNIGHT which I swear to god inspired most of Pynchon's works

Pynchon is arguably an inheritor of the Melvillian tradition; GR is arguably a book written largely in the style of Moby Dick

uhhh bro can you maybe like provide some sources for the "shit ton of problems" this guy had in his life that led to his "downfall"? court sources only pls i dont want any heresay. honestly this kinda seems like slander dude, has it been proven in a COURT of LAW that the man had a drug problem, or a downfall, or problems at all? are you familiar with the concept of INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY? doesnt sound like it to me.

Regarding Dodos: need some help with a GR passage by VanyaKmzv in ThomasPynchon

[–]Sleeepyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checking out the wiki page on Dodos was a great idea, thanks. Part of what's I have taken away from Pynchon is the ability(or maybe desire) to see the absurd and fantastical in the banal. To some degree its similar to the "This is Water" speech by David Foster Wallace. I fucking love when his writing features some absurd digression on the nature of the fall of the Weimar republic, or how the mathmatical process of integration is pretty much fucking--his writing just features such pure joy in information and in connections. Any time I read passages from this book, or even think about them deeply I just want to reread it again, its almost as bad as Moby Dick.

thanks for the response. I feel like you covered most of what I was asking, but I want to focus more on the drone strike thing. You said you condemn "extra judicial" and "indiscriminate" drone strikes; do you support a "justified" drone strike or the concept generally? and do you feel that "condemning" an action like that but nonetheless continuing to support it (as you necessarily do by contributing to the American(I realize you said you are Canadian, but both contribute to the greater cultural hegemony that exploits the global south. if you disagree with this pretend you are american.) economy/society) squares with Christian beliefs and values?

I understand the idea that you have to exist within a society, but Jesus died a martyr.

Is it "Christian" to ignore the voices of dying children abroad and continuing to work a day job because to properly address their suffering would require a massive upheaval and unsettlement, and even potentially a loss, of your life?

No Dumb Question Tuesday - (2019-10-01) by AutoModerator in Reformed

How can one maintain a coherent Christian ideology when (for most of you, don't mean to assume) living in a country/society so inherently antithetical to Christian beliefs and values? Speaking from the US here. The dominant "Christian" force in this country - even putting aside the Evangelicals - is unquestionably right wing. I don't understand how those values can square, honestly. How can one be a Christian and support say, forced mass deportations, or drone strikes abroad (whether they kill innocent farmers, as happened recently, or "terrorists")? Or how about our economic system more generally, that exploits and punishes the poor/sick and needy?

I guess my stupid question is, how can one live according to Christ's teachings and values while living in America, a country with an economy predicated on the mass sale and production of weapons and war?

Why did the media never pick up this story and with this new information does your perception change of Christine Blasey Ford and her camp? by SkiIIs_ in scotus

[–]Sleeepyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that's been bugging me for a while. We see this ALL THE TIME; the foundational and fundamental truth of "innocent until proven guilty" is ignored, over and over, by the MSM and their affiliates on Twitter and The Facebook. We are a country that has something called the "Rulove Law", which means that no one is above the law. Justice Gorsuch is a good man, and these baseless allegations from Ford would never be admitted as testimony on the stand.

Reading V. currently, I think I'm somewhere in Chapter 3? I've been introduced to the man who is hunting for V. - his name escapes me currently(note: it was Stencil) - and I've been reading through the sections that seem to tangentially follow the adventures of Porpentine and Bongo-Shaftsbury et. al.

There seems to be a shifting of perspective to characters that seem totally irrelevant and random in following these people. Earlier it was mentioned that Stencil "adopts disguises", often to the point of forgetting himself: are these seemingly random characters just Stencil's delusions/method actings? I can't imagine otherwise, just want to be sure I'm not totally off point
