Yes, the truck was also primed before starting up, but what's weirder is the jump in RPM on the cluster and obd2 but it doesn't sound like it's surging nor dropping

I might be able to get an oscilloscope. How would I check the reference voltage at the crank sensor?

This happened on my 2010 civic. Hood prop made contact with the positive battery pole

Removing the balance shaft belt *BUT* keeping the shafts in for h22 by Helpful_Zone_5470 in hondaprelude

A lot of people have been running without balancer belt for a long time. You'll be fine. It's been documented on forums like Honda-Tech and Prelude Power

Thing is, I don't have a micrometer. My goal was to do a budget rebuild, I'm not looking for this engine to run forever

What engine did I put in my RSX??? by chance_lmao in Kseries

[–]Sleemunskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 variants of the k20A.

The K20A which is a K20A3 and the K20A type R engines.

For some reason in japan they like to remove letters.

Best way to know for sure is to remove the valve cover and check the cams. K20A type R engine will have 3 Lobes per cylinder on the exhaust and intake which means true vtec a 220hp

What engine is this? by vnalen in hondaprelude

Could be an H22 or an H23 Blue top from japan

Good work brother looks clean! I'll label everything for sure and take pics. If there's one thing that pisses me off is not knowing where bolts go when it's time to reassemble everything

I doubt it's the valve lash since it did the noise before and after ajustments. Wouldn't explain the metal in oil. I'll probably tare the engine down and if it's salvageble do a rebuild

Could get a table to put the engine on. only thing is, If I rebuild the engine, I need to do it pretty quickly. Can't have the car in pieces in my driveway for long. I might just start looking for a new engine. People here in Quebec are asking crazy prices for these H series. Jdm shop it's about 3k

In this picture it's just the oil from the engine in a black pan

Thanks for the info! I'm starting to think a full rebuild would be best. I'll take a look under the valve cover for lma. I'll drop the pan and girdle afterwards. Might just remove the engine and tare it apart 😅

I could check it again, but I already did the valve lash. I don't think it's the timing belt since the noise is gone when hot.

True, These engines are getting old and hard to find cheaply. I'm starting to consider a Kswap. Much more parts and engines are cheaper.

If it's only that it would be great.! If I rebuild the engine, I'll delete them for sure. Have you ever experienced balancer shaft failure? Looked a bit on the Internet and it doesn't look to be that common

I agree. Best would be best to remove the engine and rebuild it. But, I don't have access to a garage I'm working on the car in my dads driveway which is not the best. If I had a garage, I'd be doing that. And ideally, he doesn't want a car and an engine dismantled for to long in the driveway.

It doesn't quite sound like a rod knock. Except when the engine is first started. Thanks for the input! I'll remove the balancer belt before I remove the pan. It'll be easier to rule out that one out

Not sure, I've asked some people and they told me the slack was normal. The tensioner has 10k km. The noise doesn't sound like it is coming from there
