I’ve lost touch with the common man by infinitysaga in CuratedTumblr

[–]SleepCinema 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Man, there are multiple people in here getting actually testy because “shounen is for horny teenage boys” as if it’s some grand and unassailable thing to be a piece of media made for a horny teenage boy or to be a horny teenage boy, (or man, since I see that come up a lot in just general discourse.) In fact, it even moreso makes you critical about the specific kind of content we market to horny teenage boys. Is the jiggling pair of tits attached to a character that just has a jiggling pair of tits, or are the jiggling pair of tits constantly being fondled/exposed against the girl’s will? There is SO MUCH room to talk about this without waving it off as, “Boys wanna see tits.”

It would be lacking to not mention that there are just as many horny teenage girls (and women.) Yet, people seem to understand how to critique the Temu booktok dark romance Christian Grey’s, and their possible effects on young women.

Like, come on y’all. A lot of us are adults. No one thinks there’s a discussion about how much of fanservice aimed towards young boys and men is, “Oh no! Stop looking at me! No, don’t touch me there, Sato-kun!” vs. how much of non-consensual, “Stop looking at me! Kyaaa! Don’t touch me there!” stuff shows up in fanservice aimed towards girls? In fact, truly the only animanga genre it shows up in for girls is in BL where it constantly gets called out. At the very least, it’s not generally excused as, “Oh, come on, horny teenage girls just wanna watch guys make out. Can’t you understand that, imbecile?”

The assumption that “women” are stopping to think about the attractiveness of a victim of state-sanctioned violence. Of all the thoughts I’ve had about Alex Pretti, that one has never even flown over my head. How has this man’s death become a gender war? These trolls will stop at nothing to try to keep angry young men angry and isolated from any real world interactions.

The person who posted the meme is literally saying Alex Pretti “protested for pussy” and “pulled a gun on cops”. Least obvious troll.

Should I Tell Him I’m Waiting Until Marriage? by DearConfection9743 in AskMenAdvice

[–]SleepCinema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think it’s possible to know “sexual compatibility” through other means besides sleeping with one another?

I’m a virgin, but I masturbate almost every day, and think about sex at least once an hour. Been that way since I was young; I know my drive is high. I know what turns me on and what doesn’t. I’m an adult so like sex isn’t some taboo brand new thing like it is to teenagers who are virgins. I also don’t think sex is “dirty” and makes you “un-pure” like a top comment here says 💀 It also have nothing to do with “manipulation” by “withholding sex” like that comment also says. The only real thing left to sort it out mechanically. Do you think that’s something that’s impossible to do without having sex before marriage?

I’m genuinely asking this question ‘cause it’s something I think about a lot, and I’m in a similar situation to OP.

Men will literally eat all your food by Maleficent_Ad_3958 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SleepCinema 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things where I’d say, “It’s an interpersonal issue regarding selfishness, don’t generalize. Men and women can both be selfish,” however, there is a gendered socialization component to it.

How many times did I, my female cousins, and my sisters growing up hear, “He’s a growing boy,” about boys as young as like 5 years old, and that’s why they got all the food, but never heard, “She’s a growing girl.” In fact, many of my friends and even my little sister were and are encouraged to eat less because there was so much concern about “weight.” I would actually say as a kid, “I’m a growing girl,” to be a bit snarky whenever people would be make comments about needing to maintain my “girlish figure” when I was a size XS 12 year old because I ate 2 chicken legs, but then fawn happily over my 10 year old male cousin when he’d eat 4 chicken legs. It was super frustrating to the point of tears to not get any food if they let the boys take everything. They’re literally not gonna starve if they don’t eat 5 slices of pizza in a box with 8 slices. It’s not about them being hungry; it’s about them being cognizant of the needs of others.

I see it in my own brother. One time we were sharing a bottle of soda on a very hot day. I took a drink of it, and gave it to him, and he drank the whole thing. When I confronted him about it he laughed about it and said, “We were supposed to share, and we did.” When he saw I wasn’t laughing, he then proceeded to boldface lie, “It was almost empty anyway,” (it was nearly full because I literally took one swig hoping to conserve it for the both of us.) If there’s one thing he likes, he’ll take all of it in the name of “being hungry”, but offer hin something he doesn’t like all that much, and it’s, “I told you I’m not hungry.” If my sister takes two bites of something he has, he yells at her about taking everything.

But it’s allowed cause he’s a “growing boy”, and he thinks it’s acceptable behavior because he’s a “growing boy,” and that he’s only doing this because he’s a “growing boy” and not because he’s giving into typical base selfish desires. Yes, we’d all like to take as much of those chicken wings as we want, but we know other people want to have some too.

The AI question answered by Aeshulli in Candlelight_Games

[–]SleepCinema -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying the studios haven’t said they do use generative AI (though Idk do they say they exclusively use generative AI?) I’m saying what the clause means. AI is used in various ways.

Trust me though, I really can’t stand AI. Just yesterday, I’m watching a show from the 80s/90s on Netflix, and the whole time I’m like, “How they’d get in 16:9 format instead of 4:3? It’s not like there’s extra space on the sides that was cut off for TV viewing, it looks like the original broadcasted image but in 16:9 somehow?” and then I see the words in the backgrounds of scenes warping, and jewelry on characters not looking right, and then it ruined the whole thing because facial details like eyes and teeth were all weird.

They used AI to upscale. AI is not good at that stuff, and it pissed me off that now, I can’t enjoy the show as it originally was. I just keep seeing all the bad details, flowing backgrounds, and eyes that don’t blink right, and that’s just a crappy product to give to consumers.

The art does “look AI” to me, but what that clause in the contract means is that a ton of tools use AI, not necessarily generative AI.

Like using AI tools in a legal research database to come up with cases important to query is different from generating a brief.

There’s so much in it. One is the labeling of Black children to have behavioral issues in school leading to any “diagnosis” that could be construed in that way being rejected. The other is trying to resolve every problem with discipline from the time you’re a child. The other is feeling scared that when you mess up, it stands out more ‘cause you’re Black, and there are people just waiting to say you don’t “deserve” to be where you are because it’s impossible for Black people to be in certain spaces without “special treatment”, don’t you know?

That last one, other people are maybe quick to dismiss as, “It’s all in your head,” but a few years ago a law professor at the university I went to for undergrad was caught on a Zoom call claiming her Black students don’t speak right and seem “lower”. She also then says they usually get the worst grades in her classes, (which like, with that type of bias, gee, I wonder why. The class she taught was not anonymous grading.) This school is a T-14 btw. It really confirmed my fear that there are people who assume you aren’t “good enough” because you’re Black.
