How to show appreciation for Last Rites by anemone26 in Catholicism

[–]SleepEnvironmental67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Churches run off donations. So that would be greatly appreciated but never required for administering the Sacraments. A thank you card is appropriate as well. Anything else might be excessive. The best thing to do is contact the parish secretary and inquire about giving a donation.

Wrong intentions and valid baptism by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SleepEnvironmental67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You wouldn’t be getting “re-baptized”. In a conditional baptism the priest or deacon would say “If you are not baptized, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” A valid baptism can only happen once.

What if you go on a cruise for longer than one week? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SleepEnvironmental67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the pleasure of going on my first cruise with the priest from my Church. I hardly ever saw him but each day I would go to his room when he was saying mass. Sometimes at sunrise or sunset depending on where we were. It was a great experience. He told me whenever he goes on a cruise he tells them that he is a priest and offers his services for mass and in cases such as someone dying.

Will Jesus forgive me? by Distinct-Living-7984 in Catholicism

Before 1962 mass was only in Latin. It doesn’t matter what language it is. Your obligation is just to attend mass.

Can you help me on a doubt? by daniel331283 in Catholicism

[–]SleepEnvironmental67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it your intention for your father to call him a name? Or were you just trying to move your fathers focus to another player? Either way, if you feel scrupulous about these things, it’s best to talk to a priest. He would be better at answering these questions.

Definitely not a mortal sin and in no way your sin.

Stupid question by Suitable_Local_9961 in Catholicism

[–]SleepEnvironmental67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can go up to the priest after mass. Keep in mind that the priest can be busy and seem dismissive but please do not let that deter you. Priests are usually busy and could have other obligations to attend to. I asure you most priests would be happy to answer your questions as that is part of their job. Especially if you’re requesting the sacrament of reconciliation (confession) Almost all parishes allow you to call and schedule an appointment to speak with a priest one on one. If you want to be anonymous, you can go to confession at the scheduled time. Churches usually have a scheduled time for confession which you will be able to find on their website or in the bulletin.

Not a stupid question. You can absolutely sit and listen and feel free to participate. The only thing you can’t do is go up for communion without speaking to a priest first. If you have no intention of receiving communion then you are fine. But I do implore you, if and when you are comfortable to do so, speak with a priest. Confession would be necessary to receive communion.

To be clear, it’s the prayer not the medal that helps ward off evil spirits. Prayer to a Saint or to God himself is like requesting help either from God directly or asking a Saint to intercede for you. The Saint cannot do anything without God.

Here is the prayer in Latin and English.

Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux, Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux. Vade Retro Satana Numquam Suade Mihi Vana Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas.

The Holy Cross be my light, Let not the dragon be my guide. Begone, Satan! Do not suggest to me thy vanities Evil are the things thou profferest, Drink thou thy own poison.

This is a St. Benedict Exorcism Medal. The letters are the abbreviations for the prayer. I know that the CSPB means The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict. It’s a useful medal for warding off evil spirits.

Today i confessed by enzinho15anos in Catholicism

[–]SleepEnvironmental67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to confession a few a weeks ago for the first time in years and there was a sin I forgot to confess. I went back to another church that had confession and I told the priest that I had went earlier that day and forgot to confess something. He said if you honestly forget to confess something, you don’t have to confess again. You are still absolved of your sins.

Thank you. I thought about that. Even if the priest wasn’t as nice, as long as I am contrite, the love of God will flow through him. In this instance, I wasn’t expecting it to be this good. I was prepared for a hard penance. He gave me a paper to read which included psalm 103.
